  1. Hey Roger! Good to see another CLT area person on here. I hit Lake Wylie quite a bit. I got a modified tracker 1436 jon I take out quite a bit as well as a fun pond out in Jefferson. If you do not mind, what area of Wylie do you hit?
  2. now why can't PETA harass guys like this? They could sit outside the jail and do drum circles or throw fishing sinkers at them or something.
  3. Thanks Buckeye. I really do not fear the doc. If he finds anything, it is already there. Really, it is a good thing. He can say nothing is wrong...lose weight (which I do need to do), or he can say "This and this is wrong--and lose some weight"...in which case I know and I can get about fixing it. My biggest issue is always just taking the time to take care of myself. Which is a poor excuse. I actually have a cousin 26 yrs old who now is going to spend the rest of her life being taken care of. She had her vision getting REAL bad. I mean she lost the ability to see color, has blurry and otherwise poor vision that changed daily. For a LONG time. Turned out she had a tumor in her head for a long time. By the time they took it out it had damaged her optic nerve and petuitary to the point that she put on 200 lbs, lost more vision, and had a tremendous impact on her mental faculty. So I know better than to wait or to post out here before I went to see him. I imagine I will be doing blood work and other tests over the next couple of weeks to see what/if anything is wrong besides me needing to lose 20-30 lbs.
  4. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28645505/ They have no shame. They admit, they are full of garbage. That they are flat out fibbing on their testimony to congress and their ads. I just cannot believe they are this blatent about it.
  5. Sure; most likely they'd get leftovers. They could choose from Greenish Meatloaf, some slightly 'gooey' stuff that might have been chili and some ketchup with an expiration date some time during the Reagan administration. If they were too proud for that, I'd say no. Honestly, I would probably tell them to get lost. Not because I would not want to feed them. But because lately there have been a couple home invasions around here where they will send someone to the door asking for something mundane like food or a phone. It is a ploy to get you to open the door so they can rob you. It kills me that it makes me act this way, but I have to worry more about my kids in the house.
  6. As a quick follow up guys. I am seeing my Dr tomorrow at 11. On the plus side, my wife, who usually says these message boards are a horrible and useless waste of time (means a lot coming from a facebook addict LOL), now is sort of liking this board. Reminds me of the last tie i got a physical (2 yrs ago). Dr asks me, "So what made you come in for a physical?". I told him, so my wife would quit bugging me. He laughs and says, "That is the ONLY reason I see guys your age in here.".
  7. You can also take a look at a Chevy Trailblazer. I have had one for 5 yrs. It comes with a manufacture installed towing package. I have used mine to tow my camper which is about 4,500 lbs. I also tow my jon boat which could be towed by a corolla. Anyway, I have towed the camper from Buffalo, NY to Charlotte, NC through the mountains and continually through the NC mountains for towing. It does a good job. It has an inline 6 with some good HP, so it gets alright gas mileage for a SUV. Fits the kids pretty nicely, back seats come down for storage. I have taken the thing pretty far back into Pisgah National forest on some nasty dirt roads for trout fishing and the 4x4 has yet to get close to getting stuck. And it s friggin brick as far as crash survivability goes. I has been a good vehicle mostly and would manage what you got to tow.
  8. I had a friend ask me this, and i had to say...I have no idea. I have a 2008 8 HP Mercury 4 stroke outboard. It is a manual start, stick drive, nice little motor. It is not currently rigged up for this, but is there a mod or kit that you can add to such a motor (or more correctly pay someone to hook up) to hook it into the battery to charge them while you are motoring around? I would guess no, but I have to admit I know jack about it.
  9. Long Mike i see what your saying and completely agree that the parents most likely did not take proper care of their children based on the names they gave them. however the article did not state why the authorities took custody of the kids which leaves the door open to the possibillity of it being based on there names alone, which i do not agree with as much as i dislike the names. Fishman, in most states they are not allowed to give the reason to the press. At the very least it is improper to do so. Any reason behind takng them is at this point still a alleged offense. It is still an ongoing investigation and commenting on details of an invesitgation can compromise your ability to conduct the investigation and/or prosecute the accused. In addition, the rights and privacy of the children come ahead of the general publics need to know what happened. I can tell you in 99% of cases, DSS does not take children away unless they see something that they feel represents a significant threat to their health and safety. I cannot imagine they would or could just because of their names. it owuld be so quickly overturned and they would get in so much legal trouble for it, I would not believe they would be that dumb. What is most likely, is these guys hitting the news, with thtier kids names, their affinity for Nazi memorobilia (he was wearing nazi boots in one of his interviews), and some of the other stuff on the new turned DSS onto him. There may have also been a complaint of some kind from a neighbor, teacher, etc which DSS is required to investigate. They saw something during tha investigation which they did not like and felt was an immediate threat to the children. It is rare DSS would take such a drastic move without something significant being wrong.
  10. I had that problem when I had my hernia surgery. Only the nurse had to spend 10 minutes shaving some pretty sensitive areas. Looking back I SHOULD have known but at the time, i was so preoccupied with the surgery, it just never dawned on me. I wish the doc had said something about it before the procedure I would have taken care of it.
  11. Just saw the other thread that went into this a bit. Good stuff guys. I have been great about not letting my kids anywhere near the water without their PFD but not so good about myself. Since they have informed me they actually want me to try to stick around, I figured I would need one. I like the one suggested here on cabelas, they also had another one I liked a bit was this: http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat21276-cat21312&id=0022992942246a&navCount=1&podId=0022992&parentId=cat21312&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=IK&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat601233 It is a Type-III, but I like having the storage as I usually wear a trout vest when we go out. I am sort of torn between that one and the types recommended by skunked. Either way, it is definitely better than not putting one on at all.
  12. Well my hats off to ya Muddy. My wife has done a lot of work with disabled kids and at least 3/4 of them come from homes that are VERY poor. Of those a rather large percentage are in home with abuse or neglect of some kind. Part of her job requires her to report stuff she sees to DSS, and she just about has them on speed dial for how much she talks to them. I have no idea where folks who do those jobs get the patience or self restraint to not strangle the life out of some of these people posing as parents. Add to that, a salary that in most states is nothing to be impressed over, and you really got to admire the dedication for the folks who do these jobs. You're right though, considering how bad it has to get to take kids out of a home in most cases that my wife has called on, it had to be pretty bad for them to act like this.
  13. I had the benefit of a grandfather who faught in Pattons army. His unit was actually the spearhead of the battle to liberate our guys in Bastogne. His brother landed at Normandy they both fought till VE day. Before he passed away I heard countless stories from him. He saw some amazing stuff. Amazing and scary. At the end of the war the US commanders commanded as many troops as possible go through the concentration camps and see the horror to make sure nobody would ever be able to say it never happened. These folks really do not get it. If they are willing to name their children after nazis without any care for how their children will be treated in life for it. You have to wonder, what would they do in the privacy of their own home. Hopefully, DSS takes a long hard look at the home life these children have and, if it is abusive, never allows them back in that home.
  14. We have had a horrible couple of weeks for crime in this area. Had a lethal home invasion, had some guys busted for huffing compressed air in Walmart, stealing jewelry from a Dept store in a mall. Some dude in the development behind me is even calling folks in my neighborhood trying these random schemes. Told my next door neighbor his house burned down and he needed money. Apparently he never heard of caller ID, cause my neighbors have sent the cops to his door a couple times now. I can tell you, with 4 little girls in my house, I would definitely shoot first and ask questions later if someone comes kicking in my door. Can't say i would feel good about being forced to kill someone but I would not hesitate to protect my own.
  15. Hey guys, I fish a relatively narrow lake (considiring I grew up on Lake Erie) on the NC/SC border. Fish year round. I wanted to try and find some type of PFD I could wear all seasons, have it be reasonable confortable and not interfere with fishing. Does anyone have anything they would reccomend? If you got a link to a sample or something like it, I would greatly appreciate it. I saw a couple at BPS in Concord, NC but I was not too impressed with them.
  16. Which is why they are impervious to traditional argumentative tools like logic, facts, and reason. That is genius Dan!! Genius!! To PETA: Every year each Bass alone causes the death of countless sea-kittens. They feed on male, female, even baby sea kittens. They are relentless, often swalling them whole. Sometimes devouring whole families in a single gulp. What's worse, like a scene out of jaws, even helpless mice, froggies, and little grasshoppers are not safe. As a Bass will attack them from below without warning. We at BassResource.com are vigorously fighting this scourge. Catching these Bass one by one. When possible we will have a tough discussion with them, take a photo (for our records) and release them, hoping they change their ways. Please support us in this pivitol campaign.... Sounds like their way of thinking.
  17. Well they are ABSOLUTELY right!! 100% of all the fish you catch die. So do 100% of all the fisherman, their dogs, family friends, etc. Eventually, even the sun will die. LOL. But really what do they expect. I don't care what breed, when you throw kittens into water, they drown.
  18. http://www.gastongazette.com/news/chicken_29242___article.html/fried_gastonia.html#slComments I am guessing this would be one of them. When we have de-evolved to a point where we need to be kicking in someones door for fried chicken, that is just sad. Being Gaston county, this dude at best has a 1 in 4 chance he would have kicked in a door at a home where a gun resides. So he literally put his life on the line for chicken.
  19. This like this are part of what is going to kill this country. We shall see how well taken care of he is when he helps bring the US down. ADA, created with the BEST of intentions and goals. To give disabled people, who were largely being ignored, reasonable access to this world. Taken by guys like this and used as a crowbar to whack people in the shins. Anyone ever see the show where that woman who was born without any type of legs goes about her day? Or the one with no arms who uses her feet for everything. These are people who have to take extreme hatred over folks like this. I mean i cannot imagine how much it sucks to get stuck in a wheelchair, and i hope i never have the opportunity to find out. However, suing the crap out of folks like this, just sick.
  20. Did you get out there yet? How'd it go?
  21. Knowing what a deer did to my grandfatheras trailblazer when he hit it, how can one hit a deer with a snowmobile and not seriously damage or destroy it!? Thrill killing is sick. I have done my share of hunting and fishing but 99% of the animals I have killed, have made nice meals.
  22. i have run into a few snakes in the NC mountains. Copperheads, and some other lethal ones. You jyst keep your eyes open for them. Had 3 otters fallow me around the river once. Tha was annoying.
  23. Has happened twice now and only during winter. I spend 4+ hours out on the boat, maybe 80% of that sitting down. After I get back to the dock, there is a steep incline to walk up to get my truck. By the time i get to the top of the hill, I am dizzy almost to the point of blocking out. Best I can tell, maybe this is from cold blood in my legs getting suddenly pushed into my body when I head up the hill. Does that make sense? Has anyone else every had that happen to them?
  24. I have done this trout fishing the mountain streams up here. I would strongly suggest you do not go alone. As for gear, I have waders, under them I wore Jeans, and under that I bought "Underarmor" thermal clothing. I wore a winter coat from the waste up with a sweatshirt under than. My winter coat, and hat have been soaked in waterproofer. I also picked up cheap neoprene gloves from BPS which made a HUGE difference. They had fingertips that pealed back. If you can put a cell phone in a ziplock and keep it on your person. Also, keep a towel, and blankets in you vehicle. Buy some of those hand warmers and keep them on you just in case. I know sounds overboard but it is better to have the gear and not need it than need it and not have it. With the gear I mentioned above I have gone with air temps down to 20 degree and water just above freezing for 6+ hours at a time. Just do not take any risks you do not have to. It is close....but the fish just aint worth it.
  25. Gman, that will NEVER work. Insanity skews the test results as does high doses of crack or Meth that must already be in their systems. Seriously, there are folks who give to PETA to hope they could do some serious good in the world. There is a lot of sick animal abuse going on. So they take that money and invest it in trying to name fish "sea kittens". Wow! There is a sensible investment. Invest in revamping local animal shelters, spade/neuter programs, nahhh. we will try to change the name of fish to sea kittens. Next thing they will try to patent the question mark.
