Weight capacity question.
You can even get them out in bigger water than that. I would not take a topper out into lake Erie too far, but as long as you are mindfull of the weather and surroundings, you would be alright in most water. Just be wary of lots of wake. I have taken mine out plenty in Lake Wylie, and except for the occasional ignoramous in a pleasure craf twho thinks it is their duty to run real close to me at high speed, I don't have an issue. With the small bilge pump I have put in, I do not ever have an issue.

Ramp Rules
Hey guys, PLEASE do not take me as being overly defensive on this. This is not meant to be that way, purely informative for newer boaters. On the topic of ramp rules, I can honestly say, I got a lot of new ones over the last few months, because of fellas who were nice enough to take some time to chat with me a bit on some of the courtesies at a ramp. Here are the ones I have please add some on guys for anyone else. There is no course for these, and while some are obvious, some are not. 1. When unstrapping your boat, particularly on a crowded ramp, do as much of the unstrapping in the parking lot BEFORE getting on the ramp. 2. When landing, focus. Once you are blocking the dock/ramp, do not stop and chat, lollygag, etc. Get your boat trailored and out of the ramp area and then chat. 3. When landing, get your boaton the trailer then proceed away from the ramp to complete strapping down (this allows others to use the ramp). 4. if you notice someone having trouble launching/landing/trailoring, if you can take a second (especially if you are having to wait for them), give them a hand. you may teach them something that will help them be all the more quicker next time.

Before you get too old......
1. Go to the northwest US and fish a killer stream in the middle of nowhere miles from the nearest human 2. Fish for 300+ lb Marlin 3. Do both with my girls (I got 4 of them) 4. Skydive 5. Finish getting my pilots license.

Hooked on Bass- National geographic special
Great show guys! Loved it. Course my wife had to almost restrain me from grabbing a pole, and taking my boat to the lake afterwards, LOL. I definitely got the fishing bug BAD this year.

Requesting your prayers again.
That is horrible to hear. That is a tough age. I had a pretty tough time around then (horrific family situation, and tough time at school) and I remember not feeling too happy about being alive. The thing that sticks in my mind now, is how utterly insignificant those HUGE issues I had back then are to me now and back then they were serious enough to weigh my life against them. I have and will definitely continue to be praying for this guy and his family.

Weight capacity question.
I got a topper 1436, I have gone out with about 390 weight people, plus a 8 hp 4 stroke, 2 batteries, gear, etc One thing I will tell you with that in it, it does not take much of a wave to spill into the boat. and I would not have 2 guys standing in it. However, I have spent more hours in it fishing than I can count, and sitting down, good ride, good fishing, good price.

Lures that DON"T work??
LOL....could you better describe the methodology around the Texas Rigged Tampon (aka TRT) fishing technique? Great stuff guys. I am with ya on jigs. I KNOW they work, I have seen a lot of guys catch a lot of fish on them but not me, cannot use a jig to save my life.

Need Advice on Waders
When you get the boots try them on with the waders on. Mine were a full extra size larger than my foot size because of the waders.

Is 40 LB thrust enough?
Good stuff raul. I have been considering if I need the extension arm for mine. I usually do about 50/50 sitting standing. You are right it would be MUCH easier if I did not have to bend over or sit down for the TM.
-
Is 40 LB thrust enough?
NO. 40 lbs is barely enough, I 've got a 12 ft jonboat/6.5 hp/36 lbs TM, everything is fine until the wind begins to blow > ....... should have purchased at least 50 lbs. :-/ Hey raul, how much wind you talking about where you started having problems? I know with my 10 lbs a butterfly running perpendicular to me would cause some issues (actually 5 mph winds would start issues, 10 would seal my fate). Just curious, I actually managed ot get my hands on a 50 lb thrust motor for free, which I should have shortly. Curious as to any issues I may have.

boat ?
There are, and what depends on the source. If you have a loose rivet you could drill it out and replace it. There are also numerous product to put on it. I have used JB-Weld, HTS-2000 brazing rods (work real well), and I have had to call a welder for a crack I had right on a seam on the bottom of the transom. One warning on the JB-Weld the welder had me go back and remove every trace of it before he would touch my boat. I have seen folks here use various epoxies, and other items to seam cracks. Depends on how big the hole is, and where it is.

Need Advice on Waders
I have been looking at that pair...they look good for the price. What is the reason someone would want felt over lug? I have had 2 pairs like this: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_53430____SearchResults I buy my own boots to fit over these. When it gets warmer, I have wading pants I use and the same boots with an extra pair of socks. I would strongly suggest felt. In creeks with plenty of crap on the rocks, it gives you superior traction. In a few of the creeks I few in ( such as Wilson Creek in NC). With the current and depth, this is the difference between a bad day and a good day. The reason I get the ones I list here, is they are not really expensive, they are unbelievably light, and they are pretty rugged.

Is 40 LB thrust enough?
Reminds me of the discussion that I had with my CEO a few months ago. He asked me how I felt about my compensation package. My response..."Well I think I am paid well but I would be a lier if I told you I did not want to make more.". Got him laughing good. To their points, i have never heard anyone open a thread on here about how their trolling motor sucks because it had too much power. LOL. It is all about what you can settle for. Personally though dude, IF you plan on having the boat and the motor for a long while, I would wait a little and get a stronger one. If you really cannot afford the extra $100, then you will probably be content with the 40 lber, IMO.
-
Is 40 LB thrust enough?
I would think 40 lb would be fine. Obviously, if you can get a stronger motor, you would not regret it. Given what my 10 lb thrust motor did for my boat, if I had 4 times that thrust, I would not be replacing it. there really is no current on Lake Wylie, and the kind of wind, and waves that would make a 40 lb not work would be something I wold not take my jon out in anyway.
-
Is 40 LB thrust enough?
Hey GoReds, can you throw some info about where you typically fish? I have used 10 lbs on my 1436 (w 8 hp 4 stroke)on ponds, worked fine. On Lake Wylie, not so fine. If I was in a current, would be useless. For me, that would really be the deciding factor. In my situation I think a 40 lb would be fine for my ride, but it all depends where you go.

New DAD
yeah and get your fishing in now cause in a few months....you will be busy helping the mommy to be, and after that....well nobody sleeps anymore. Course any down sides are more than overweighed by the positives, especially the first time you get them out there fishing.

Pet peave's that shouldn't be
LOL. I have been that guy!! In the winter (when I cannot just jump in the water to fix it), I have some kind of disability that I cannot get my jon on the trailer. Just does not cooperate. As much as it annoys you waiting, quadrouple that amount of frustration in being the guy being manhandled by a 14 ft jon. Insert foot in mouth!! ;D LOL. naaa. I actually had to laugh at myself when I did that last time. Funny part is I grew up around boats. My dad had a 18 ft and traded up to a 23 ft cruiser. I used to launch those things all the time. NEVER had a problem. My 1436 though, it is one stubborn little thing sometimes. I have had it for 6 months, launched it I don't know how many times, you'd think it would not trouble me at all. It is frustrating though for the guy who was hoping I would get my tail out of there so he could bring his in. LOL.

Registering a Boat in Texas
As annoying as it is, they make it so difficult so if some jughead steals your boat from your driveway, he can't just run out and register it as his own. One of the few laws there are a rational reason to. It would be better though if they made a better allotment for the legal reasons why you would not have a title.

Any advice on freeloading tenant
As for damage allowing you to get rid of them...nope. the same people I told you about the sinks, ended up doing $30,000+ damager to the house. It took my in-laws 30 days to get a legal eviction order served by a county sheriff. In the end they never got a dime from this person in terms of rent or damage and only got to keep their security deposit. atx is right though, while it is tough for YOU to get anything from them, it is not tough for them to get stuff from you if you allow your anger to take over and do something like remove a door, toilet, chnage locks, etc. Frequently these deadbeats know the system REAL well and will do thing just to get you to screw up. I would start legal proceedings ASAP against this guy. I just hope your state is better than NY. I would never rent anything in NY cause their laws amd judges are so biased against the landlord.
