  1. Absolutely awesome stuff guys!! I will let everyone know how it goes.
  2. Never underestimate people man. My in laws never removed the toilets and have had clients still use the bath tub and sinks for the toilet. The did this for 20+ days, so figure out the details from that.
  3. Has anyone used these? Have any thoughts on how effective they are? I have a Jon and I like how these run on aa batteries. Anything that I can use without using my trolling or other batteries is a plus. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=cat601336_feat-cat20188&id=0023380016762a&navCount=11&podId=0023380&parentId=cat20188&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=IK&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat601233&hasJS=true
  4. She needs to start eviction proceedings ASAP. They take a while so the sooner the better. My in-laws rent out a number of properties in WNY. The court does not make it easy to evict anyone and they have taken a beating on their propertes so many times, it is not funny. It is sickening. They have had to at times physically restrain my father in law from strangling the life out of a tenant. Good luck man, do your best to try and ease her frustration as much as you can, just one of the downsides to renting.
  5. I got a PM from NitroMan for it. So it is his. Thanks guys. I loathe the thought of just throwing it out. Glad it will get some use.
  6. It has to vary by habitat. My mothers pond (in Northern NC) was stocked with Bass 1.5 yrs ago and we are pulling out 4 lbs left and right. I expect the selected harvest we will be pulling on that pond in a month will show more than a few 5 lbers.
  7. Thanks no1, that was my first thought to get rid of. My grandfather got me using them at the end of last year, can't say I ever thought I needed them but read a couple articles that suggested them. So that would be 1 thing I will rid myself of next trip.
  8. done replied to bassheel's topic in Everything Else
Dude, that totally sucks! Someone needs a serious *** kicking!! I feel for you I really do.
  9. I got this for free from a bud who had never used it. I haveused it for about 6 months. I will have a new free Minn Kota Endura 50 lb thrust trolling motor for my boat in a week or two. Seeing how I got this one for free and my next one for free, and it is not exactly top of the line, I have no interest in selling it, I won't be using it. Just hate to throw it in the trash when it works fine. If you want to take it off my hands send me a PM and you can have it. Has 2 speeds low 5lbs, high 10 lbs, pushed my jon alright, would work great on a small pond, or for a jon or inflatable should you have nothing to begin with. Here are details on the model I have: http://www.amazon.com/Sevylor-12-Volt-Fishing-Motor/dp/B0000BYOQ9 I am in Charlotte, NC if you are local I can meet you and just give it to ya when my new one comes in. if your not, pay for shipping and it is yours.
  10. Couple things...variety of stock, pricing (does not have to be the cheapest but reaosnable), good service. The service is my biggie. Let's say for instance, I really want a vibrax spinner or a Wave Fishing 5" Tiki-Stick that you do not commonly carry in stock. Being able to get you to order some for me (provided I am a regular). I would rather go to the mom and pop who works with me and gives me service than a huge BPS chain. We had a million of them in Buffalo NY area, I cannot find any in Gastonia, NC.
  11. So far this season cannot get a break. I get the hard part out of the way. I can FIND the bass. I know they are there. I cannot get any of them to bite. Thrown every soft plastic I got. Tried every retrieval I know, straight back, 1/4 turn - jerk, vibrax spinners, ratl-l-traps (though I find this year I suck with them). Nothing. I usually only get 1 or 2 at most every trip. Sunday had fellows catch a few right out from under me. No idea what I am doing wrong. I did catch a real nice crappie 2+lbs. I had pretty much given up catching anything, threw a line out back with a deep diving crankbait 9' down and trolled all the way back to the dock (about 3/4 mile). Almost 2/3 the way there, something hammers my line. So I did not get skunked but darn. Anyway guys and gals, I am using 8 lb test, black 20lb steel ldr, maybe a single small split shot is any weight with the plastics. 4/0 hook, plastic wrms, Flukes, tubes, just nothing. See fish large ones and tons of baitfish on the graph at 5 ft and 10 ft, temp 50 - 52 degrees. Wylie has little to no vegetation, mostly flat gently slope bottoms, I find plenty of drop offs (depth drops 15 ft - 35 ft in 3-5 ft), TONS of docks, coves. Any ideas or anything anyone can throw at me, I am game. Just cannot find a groove.
  12. Here is a link for the 8 hp storage guide, maybe you can find something on your from there: http://northamerica.mercurymarine.com/_media/pdfs/serviceandwarranty/storage/StorageInformation-8to9_9FS.pdf
  13. I was trying to find my manual. Basically it was one of the sides that it cannot be laid on. You might stand a chance googling it and see if you can find a manual. Also, Mercury has a contact email form their web site that would give you definitive answer for that motor. Probably throw the serial number at 'em, for better info.
  14. What make/model is it? Mine has specific ways it can be laid down and one way you kill it if you do.
  15. yeah. I have been working on the same thing as far as diet. Got down to the lowest I have been in over 10 years. Aiming for lowest since high school soon. Fish has become a huge part of my diet lately.
  16. My 14 ft jon w trailer and 8 hp 4 stroke cost more than 2k (brand new though). You may get lucky finding something older, but you will likely be putting some work into it.
  17. I always liked it, but did not really get hooked till my first year trout fishing in the NC mountains. After an absolutely insane week of work I took 3 days off and went by myself on the Linville River. Since it was midweek nobody else was on the river. I was about a mile back into the middle of nowhere, wading thigh deep in a nice set of riffles, was about 70 degrees out, sunny, half full creel. Standing there by myself, sun coming through the tree canopy, I can say, was about the most relaxed I have ever been. Have not stopped fishing, year round since then. Be in trout in a stream, out on Lake Wylie, Deep sea (on the rare occasionI can afford it), or shore, does not matter. I am always game for it now.
  18. Looks good man. BTW, when it comes to the parts and electronics. Looks around. When I doing the work on my Jon, BPS eventually become the last place I looked. Charlotte has a lot of places you can go to get the same stuff cheaper. West marine, Gander Mountain, even Walmart. There are also some good marine stores I found in kannapolis, and Shelby that could crush BPS prices. For the marine carpet, go to Lowes. Depot had outdoor carpet, but Lowes was the only one I found that carpet which was specifically Marine. There was a big difference in the Depot outdoor and the Lowes Marine as well (quality and price). Good luck man.
  19. yeah for anything mechanical, I will usually first hire them for something mundane. Liek an oil change or something I can do myself and something i can judge myself. provided they do a good job I will consider them for other work. It is tough though to find good help sometimes. Sorry to hear about this dude. Hopefully you will get everything straightened out.
  20. So here is proof. By fishing and bringing home and eating some, yo uare helping your family stay healthy and increasing intelligence. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29104695/
  21. if you can get everything else to work, the insurance will be hell. I know from my years working a rental desk, if you are under 21 yrs old, you are going to have hell finding a company that will insure you for less than a small fortune. The rental company I worked for our insurance would not allow us to rent to anyone under 21, they just wound not insure them. As a boat owner, I would absolutely require yo uhave soem type of insurance should you get in a wreck, bang my boat against the dock, etc. If you can work out the insurance, consider how you would do the scheduling. You would need a launch, pick-up time. Then you would need to allot for emergencies. If a guy needed to get out 3 hours early? You could charge extra but then you would need to worry about impact to your schedule for other folks. You would also need to get yourself a good lawyer. You would need terms drawn up for making sure folks are held responsibly for crappy equipment. If the dude's trailer sucks and throws a wheel while you are towing it and wrecks your truck, or some other variant. Not trying to discourage you. Any business venture requires you to troubleshoot all the potential issues and develop them into a workable model. So, if you are willing to take the effort, think through the issues folks brought up here, find solutions, throw them out here. Go to a launch or 2, for folks that will give you their time, throw your proposal at them, get their take, would they use such a service? You may get some great ideas, or they may give you enough info for you to determine it is not viable. Either way man, a good exercise. Don't stop thinking. For each sucess many business guys have, they have plenty of failures or other idea that just did not work out.
  22. I think I remember a couple threads (probably from other states) here that they had the same issue. They ended up getting the hull numbers and jumping through hoops to get it registered. You might want to just call the state, tell them yor situation, and see what you can do to get the boat under compliance.
  23. I got a mercury 4 stroke 8hp, in the manual that comes with it, they give you 3 out of 4 ways you can lay it (may say something similar in your manual. I would just make sureyou do not get anywhere near the way it says not to lay it. You may be able to rig up something with a few short 2x4's to keep it laying a specific way in the back of you truck. Should not be too hard to slap something like that together.
  24. All summer I spend weekends fishing. All winter I have spent weekends buying stuff! Well, that is one way to convince your wife that fishing is a good thing.
  25. LOL, I wish the Mecklenburg County sheriff boats in Lake Wylie spent as much time actually enforcing those. I have seen them turn a blind eye countless times to some water ski boat running inside a no wake zone open throttle.
