Spinning reel not "spooling"??
You guys should sticky post this thread. I cannot tell you how many times I or folks around me have had issues with line misbehaving on a spinning reel. Great stuff guys and good question twitchfish.

Very Upsetting Story
They were just killing them for fun!? That is total garbage. I will never understand that. I have hunted, when I fish I will always keep a couple - few. However, NEVER do I hunt or fish and kill an animal just for the sake of killing them. I don't even kill what others call nuisance fish. I just cannot kill something just to see it die, if I do not intend to eat the fish, it goes free. Anyway, glad they caught these guys.

Welcome on board, like Btech I fish Wylie quite a bit. You ever get up there?

Tragedy strikes very close to home
Sorry to hear that flechero. We had one not too long ago on Wylie. Just tragic.

Just about passed out after fishing. Whats up with that?
FYI guys, 3 months now I finally had my last follow up for this episode. As a result, I am now 31 lbs lighter, dropped cholesterol 55 points, dropped Triglycerides 140 points, I do not ever get heartburn anymore, and more importantly, I am getting a more speed and stability out of my jon boat. All it took was a maintainable diet, and 3-4 days a week playing with the Wii Fit. Just want to throw this out there, if anyone reallyt is looking to drop that weight or get into shape, you really just need to do it. I wish I would have got off my tail and done it earlier, I have 4 kids so it is tough finding the time for the exercise but it pays off and makes the fishing a bit easier.

Who's heading out tomorrow?
Got a new Minn Kota Endurea 50# TM, a new deck on back, new rod holders, new glasses, new plastics, and am looking forward to a full day on Lake Wylie to test out the new tips y'all gave me since my last trip out. Anyone else planning for a day on the water tomorrow? What lake you hitting? Love to hear about it.

polarized sunglasses
Good thread guys. I recently went out and got my first pair. Had not even thought of the UV protection. My normal glasses (don't need them for fishing but usually wear them) have UV protection in the lenses. Given how bad my arms and face get burned when I neglect the sun screen, I should have thought about it.

Brand new outboard struggling
Honestly if you do play with the choke and still get the same issue, take it back. Have them try it out and see if they see the same thing. Make them prove to you that the motor works.

storing soft plastics
I keep them all in their original bags, in their own slots in my box. Before each trip I will usually pre-rig a few and put them in a slot in my box for "On-deck" baits so I can get to 'em quickly when on the water. I am constantly looking for better ways. I got a 14 ft jon and while it is pretty nicely moded, space is still a premium.

Brand new outboard struggling
Thats why I was asking. I have a mercury 8 hp 4 stroke. It is my first OB as well. I kept forgetting to close the choke when I got it going and it would run like a pig, especially at idle. Then it would take me 300 pulls to get it started. I can't tell you the foul language I sent across the lake. What I found now, is I will get it started at full choke, then hit the button on the side to disengage the trans and run it at slightly higher RPMs for a bit. Once I can close the choke completely without it sputtering, I do so and it runs like a champ and 9 times out of 10 will start on the first pull. If I forget (and I still do from time to time) it is a PITA. I did notice, when I used to leave that vent closed or not open enough on the gas tank the primer bulb would be the first thing to sink in, followed by the tank a little then a nice annoying stall.

best tasting lake fish??
Walleye. I used to fish for these all the time when I was up north. My dad had trhis awesome lemon pepper mix he would use with them, Just awesome tasting fish. After that Trout, Crappie, Bass, and catfish (I have a friend who can cook up catfish and it rocks. Don't like catfish any other way)

Never tell the wife 'get what you want'
"Tools" is good, Just be sure you do not use the "lure" part of that analogy. I know what my wife would say..."So you think laundry is my hobby then?"...argument ensues..... Sounds like you have the same ones we got, do they "sing" when they are done?. It sucked paying that much but really they are faster than our old ones and she can get a LOT more done at once which with 4 kids is a plus.

Swim worm = only bait I need?
I hear you. I can catch the heck out of bass with 5" tiki sticks. Nothing in my box catches 'em quite the same way for me. That being said, a good reason for that, I fish 'em better. I just got a good feel for 'em. Being weedless I am definitely a lot more confident throwing them in places I would not throw some of my other tackle. Personally, I love catching 'em on crankbaits. For some reason I always loved it. I know though I am not as good with crankbaits. As far as your question, if you are catching fish, and having fun and don't feel the desire or need to pull anything else out, then don't. If you get to a point where you are bored with 'em and want to throw something else go for it. You may do better with another bait, may not.

How is the choke? You leaving it open, not opening it, opening it for start then closing?

Boat and fish store hours
It seems to me that 11-7 would be much better. I mean you get any lunch stragglers, and then give the working stiff 5-7 really to get in there and do their business.

Believe in "E.T."?
You also have to be humbled by how absolutely little we know about life in general. I mean I remember going to elementary and high school and what we taught in school as FACT. The death of the Dinosaurs was unknown, Pluto was a planet.... All you needed for life at that point (as we knew it) was a planet in the proper orbital range and whammo, you had life. Since then, we have learned about the importance of a magnetic field, of relatively a low number of large comet/asteroid impacts, a stable climate, plate tectonics, etc. On one hand this stuff is totally cool. On the other, it is almost overwhelming. I will tell you guys this though. One night in Winter, 1998 about 1 am I was driving I-90 South of Buffalo, NY (near hamburg and the Buffalo AP) heading north with one of the girls from my dorm to hit the casino in Niagara falls. I saw what I first thought was an airplane flying high altitude perpendicular to the highway. It stopped and in that instant split into 3 separate lights, one went back on the same path it came in on, one kept going forward, one went straight up. I saw it, and the girl I was traveling saw it (though it took us 20 minutes to admit it cause we both thought we were crazy). I have spent a lot of time trying to rectify what man made or natural phenomenon could have caused what I saw. I have not yet been able to explain it. Stuff like that is what keeps me wondering on have we ever been visited. Rationally, i could see aliens visiting earth for anthropology studies, or something like that, maybe scoping out a potential new home world for themselves (since life supporting planets appear so rare). Not sure what other reasonable explanations would be. For all we know though, there could be minerals on our planet that may be rare in the universe. Who knows. I doubt it would be ot seek our knowledge or anything hokey like that.

My Boat
Well it was thrown into the toilet. Depending on its level of use at the time, losing the camera may be a good thing.

Get fired go fishing
Cost was one of the reasons I got my jon boat. I mean the thing take 3 gallons of gas and to use that much I have to run it full out for 8 hours. As long as I do not get hung up to much, I can go fishing all day for <$10 and with the customizations I made to my boat, it is a pretty good time taking it out. When I used to shore fish, I could do it for less than that. On top of that, when you are out on the lake, you are not spending money elsewhere like eating out, or shopping.

More motors than Boat!!
My bud has a 14 ft fiberglass with a 45 hp on it. That thing flies. I could not imagine the speed this boat would go with a 40. That is a sweet looking boat though.

Boat and fish store hours
Alright, this is a pet peeve of mine. We have a store nearby, that really has awesome stuff. They have reasonable prices on most of it and good customer service. However, I find more often then not I cannot shop there. Their hours our 10am - 6pm. They are a 45 minute drive from my house. It seems to me, if you are going to be open on the weekdays, you would be open to at least 7 pm. By the time someone gets out of work to go and do some shopping, or off the water this place is already closed. I generally have to go to other stores that I do not like as much because of the hours. Am I just weird with these hours? It just seems to me they would be open later than 6pm on weekdays.

PLEASE READ THE FAQ'S!!!
I am truly sorry to hear that guys. I would BET at least 99% of the guys and gals here greatly appreciate the lengths you have had to go through to keep this site clean. I know folks get online and love to throw around threats. Anyway, thanks for the heads up on the FAQ's I did not know you changed them. If I had any suggestions on the thread deletions, it would be to consider sending a PM to the author for those that are "on the fence" or near the fence. I have had a couple deleted, and as I have no interest in causing issues with you guys, it would be helpful to get an idea what about that thread got it tossed. Just to make sure we are that much more careful in the future. Anyway...have good one!!!

Moderators
Very true on the mods. And as a manager, I have made mistakes that I have had folks call me on. I personally appreciate those who come to me though. If I owe an apology to others then I give it. I guess the key is respectfully bring it up. On forums I have managed, very frequently you get one person who throws out a thread on his thread being deleted (Many times with no ill intent), next thing you know there is a flame war with folks tearing into mods. Almost like a religious or political thread. Like you said though, Glenn and the mods are big boys, if they have an issue they will say it themselves.

Threats!? Really? Wow....
