  1. If no one takes you up on this, you can always come to the eastern shore with us and go camping/fishing. It's at Kiptopeke state park where the concrete ships are. Flounder..... c'mon, I know you wanna.
  2. I definitely think it's the smaller ones that you need to look out for. It seems as though the bigger they are the duller the fins get. I've had 30lb + catfish in my lap (sitting in a kayak) and it was no big deal. I've also had little ones along side the boat and mishandled them, leading to a nice stab in the hand. It could be that the big ones were tired out from fighting too. While the little one's take no time to pull in and they still have lots of energy to flop around and stab ya. Anyways, be careful.
  3. Thank you all for the warm welcome.
  4. I totally need to get jet boosters for my kayak. No dam can hold me back!!!
  5. Sounds like fun. I'm gonna be at the Eastern shore, so I won't be able to make it. I think Eddie and I have a trip planned for the 6th though. Good luck!
  6. ooooohhhh ... makes me feel like a kid again. Can't wait!!!
  7. What do you think about the 6th or 7th? Do you know any launch areas on Occoquan? Maybe I can meet you there super early in the morning.
  8. Nah.... these have been around the James river too long... eating too much crap. I let them go to hopefully catch another day.
  9. I posted the pictures of the catfish on the "Other Fish Species" section.
  10. Hi. I'm new to the forum and thought I'd introduce myself. Name's Rob Choi and I've been fishing pretty much all my life (fresh and salt). I took up kayak fishing around February and been addicted ever since. I'm good friends with EddieinVA and got him hooked to kayak fishing. Anyways, here's a couple of pictures from the James river (Richmond). 20lb. FLathead Catfish on 4lb. test 29lb Blue Catfish on 6lb test 31lb blue cat on 6lb test (personal record)
  11. Does anyone know when the pond will be open to the public?
  12. Like I was telling Simon, I'm gonna be down at the Eastern shore (Kiptopeke), flounder fishing, maybe some speckled trout, etc. The baby's coming along great (Dr. says). She's been kicking alot. Good luck at Beaver dam. Is this the place on Occoquan river you were talking about?

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I feel like in the fishing world, bass fishing is like the equivalent to heroine (in terms of addictiveness). By joining, I've stuck the needle in. Well, here goes nothin'!
  14. I'll be down at the Eastern shore (Kiptopeke) this weekend, but maybe next week we can try for some smallies in the James. I was thinking of taking a trip to Briery Creek some time, too. I'll let you know. I wonder how much this rain will affect the fishing.
  15. I CAN'T WAIT!!! If any of you are near Richmond, perhaps I may join you (if you want some company) when it gets going.
  16. Like you said, I hope they regulate that pond. It would be freakin' sweet to buy something from BPS and try it out right there at the pond. I guess we'll just have to see.
  17. Yo!!! What's up Eddie! FYI that last catfish was a Blue cat (not flathead). And for the guy who wanted to know what I used, it was a live bluegill on a circle hook. And yes, it was hella fun. As far as kayak fishing goes, I'm up in Richmond, I have a Redfish 12 and love it. I love the area just below pony pasture area (James River)in Richmond, I go down to Virginia Beach pretty often and fish in Lynnhaven inlet, too. Let me know if you ever want to join me. Ed, we gotta catch up and fish the twin yaks.
  18. Yo Ed, is Beaverdam on that Occoquan river you were talking about?

Thanks for the warm welcome. I'm very familiar with the Pony Pasture area, Sam. And YES, the rain is definitely welcome. Have you ever fished the New river or Briery Creek? Been kinda curious to try these places.

Hi. Name's Rob Choi. My good friend EddieInVA is on here so I thought I'd join. I've been fishing as long as I can remember (fresh and salt). I took up kayak fishing in February and have been addicted ever since. I'm actually the one who got Eddie to buy a kayak. I've been doing some smallmouth and catfishing on the James River (Richmond, VA) and lots of saltwater fishing down in Virginia Beach. I was gonna post pics but it says that I have to at least post 10 non-image messages first. So i guess I'll post them later. -Rob
