Looking for Spinning Reel Recommendations
Virtually all of my spinning reels are Shimano's, of one variety or another. I just got a Symetre. Do a search and you will find a wealth of info regarding this particular reel. Consesus my many is this is the best bang for the buck. AS well as my humble opinion A lot of folks like the president as well, but it is not a Shimano

Penn 920
My father just sent me a Penn 920 Baitcaster. It is in excellent shape but there are no directions with it. The line that is on it appears to be some type of rope looking material Does anyone know about these? I would like to add it to my arsenal as it is a very nice reel. I have most of it figured out except there is a little chrome lever on the side of the body (top) that I cannot figure out what it does. Also what type of line would you use with the reel? I think I may just send it into Penn to have it inspected and cleaned / lubed.

finally decided to upgrade to a premium rod
Spent 4 hours at BPS last night handling, and trying as many rods as I possibly could. I finally settled on a St Croix 6'8" medium extra fast Avid. (I had to order it as there was a blemish on the rod there and I did not want it.) Also the price is now $169.99 I am going to pair this with a Symetre 2500 (as soon as it comes in) This will be primarily a plastics rod. My BC is used for my heavier lures, as well as my spinners, deep cranks etc. Will you all give me your opinions on my choice. If I did wrong I will take it back and look in another direction. Thanks for your thoughts as many of you are way more knowledgeable than I

freight charge?
I am going to purchase a new boat this spring. Probably a Tracker with the deals thay are offering. My question is... has anyone been successful in negotiating the removal of the freight charge. I can't see me having to pay for the freight if I am buying off the floor. Custom made for me is a different story. thoughts?

why Symetre
I just spent the last hour reading old posts with the search term symetre and sahara. and I have been to the web site and the comparison seems to be the same There are a lot of posts indicating the preference for a symetre but no (reel) real information of why. Can anyone provide a more concrete explanation of why? I am ready to purchase two new reels to replace my spirex reels that have lasted 15 years. I would hope that Shimano reels will give me the same longevity For now they are going to be paired with my spiral graphite rods, also 15 years old but the best rods I have fished with. By the end of the season my plan is to get two new shimano rods or maybe avids thanks for your insight. as you can tell I have not been shopping for a while

Boat Batteries
bull. I would still go back there and have them make it right. At the very least I would file a complaint with the company

trailer brake question
I drive a full size GMC 1500. I am going to be purchaseing an new Tracker TX170 in the summer (hopefully) The total weight will be less than 2000 loaded I see that an option for the trailers is drum brakes. My questions are: Do I need them? Should I get them? If so how difficult is it to have my truck done to work them? thanks

Bass Pro Shop Rods
I have had the best luck with BPS rods. As a matter of fact my 4, yes 4 favorite rods are 20 year old BPS spiral graphite rods. I just bought a new extreme with a bait caster and have been very happy. I will definately buy more when needed. Personally I see no reason to buy another companies rod. JMHO and YMMV

WHICH TROLLING MOTOR BATTERIES.
I buy the Bass Pro Shops brand when they go on sale. I don't know for sure but I would bet there are only a couple of manufacturers that make the batteries for a lot of diffrent branding

Shimano Clarus or B.P.S. Extreme casting rod??
I just bought the BPS combo ($129). I have only had it for a month but I am very happy with so far. The rod is sensitive for the makeup. I have the 6'6' medium heavy. I don't feel the reel seat is a detriment at all JMHO Hope this helps

Outboard horsepower question
Horsepower question. I am looking to get a motor for my 14 Alumacraft. I have not decided between a 4 and 5 horse MErc. The 4 has an integral fuel tank with a an auxillary optional The 5 is only auxillary. Is there any real difference between the horse power rating? Will I notice any difference? I am not interested in any higher horsepower because of the weight difference, cost, and this in an interim boat fro me. Probably 3 years before I upgrade. Also where I am located, most lakes are electric only (80% of my fishing) but the Susquehanna river is close by and in order to get out there for safety reasons you need an outboard

rod longevity?
What is the longevity of a graphite rod? I have a couple of rods that are around 20 years old. They still perform as expected, at least I think so. Do they degrade over time? Cab the sensitivity degrade without realizing it? If you use the same thing over and over one may not realize a differnce if it happens over time. My reels were matched to the rods and they are about worn out. They are a little sloppy so I am going to replce them over the winter months. Should I have my new reels matched up with new rods?

New "to me" boat
I just got a great deal on a 1984 Alumacraft T-14 with a trailer in great looking condition Anyone have any experience with this boat. The deal was so good I have not even put it in the water to see if it floats. Single owner since purchased and gettng to old to get it in and out of the water so I trust that it does float I plan on putting some plywood down in the floor for a flat surface. The weight limit is 550lbs. Will two adults plus gear be to close to the limit? thanks for you input

Newbie
Hello everyone. I am new to the board but not new to fishing I am looking forward to learning more about the art of bass fishing. I just bought a 14 foot Alumacraft and by the spring will, hopefully, have it out fitted the way I want it. I am looking forward to the new opportunities a boat will give me to fish. I live near the Susquehanna river in Pa. A body of water that you really cannot fish unless you have a boat. Anyway I will not ramble, just read and learn for a bit
