Reel Magic spray

Featured Replies

I've seen some cans of spray called Reel Magic or Real Magic that supposedly makes mono more limp without impacting strength. Does this stuff work or is it crap?

Its not crap, but KVD Line & Lure works better, and I was a diehard Real Magic user.  It still has its uses though, but mostly for rebuilding reels.

I am still in the process of trying them both out.  Last weekend I reeled up my 2 Citicas I have with Trilene Sensation.  I sprayed one down with KVD and the other with Reel Magic.  I sprayed both lines as I spooled them up and then sprayed them the spools and the guides before i went fishing and then after wards.

Both performed very well and made the line very manageable and I tried all sorts of different weighted lures with both.  I will be going again this weekend for the second test and see how they still compare.  As of know it is a tie, but we will see what happens over a period of a month or so.

I'm not a fan at all of Reel Magic .  I've been using the KVD line conditioner for a good part of the current season and really like the stuff.  I get far fewer tangles and the line is smoother with casting.

My vote is for KVD ;)

I have been using it for years.  I keep a can in the boat, one in the shop and another in the camper.  Anytime I need a little spray silicone that is what I use.  It helps castability of mono and quietens that noisy braid.

Having never used a line treatment before, I was a bit curious about what it was supposed to do. I use braid probably 90% of the time, it is noisy though, might have to give it a shot

Worthless.....when compared to KVD L&L.

I have used both and think you will like KVD Lure & Line Conditioner much bhetter. There are significant differences. For example, Reel Magic is basically a silicone spray coating which washes off after a short period of time.  KVD forms a permanent molecular bond.

Can you use the KVD spray as an all-purpose lubricant/protectant like the Reel Magic, like say on your guns?

Get KVD Line and Lure.  It's not silicone based and will remain on your line for a longer period of time.  It's also better for the waters that we fish.

KVD is not a general lube.  I would not suggest that you use it on gun metal as it has a water base.

I use reel magic and have not had any issues with it.

However I do not have any expereince with KVD.

Zel gave me a can of Reel Magic to try this year. MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING! First off I never had problems with mono, that I didnt create, so if I watch how I spool it and make sure my lures are not spinning around, no issues.

It left an odor on the line I did not care for either.

I do like to spray it on the reel as part of my monthly clean and lube process, but it is unecessary. I can not copmment on any other brand, but I will not be using these products for issues I never have with my line.

I've never used any of this kind of stuff but I've read enough about them to know that if I did I'd try the KVD before I used any of it.  I had a can of reel magic I got from a grab bag one time in Wal-Mart's clearance aisle but I never tried it and now I don't even know what ever became of it.  To my knowledge I never used any of it.  I did see Bill Dance use it on TV though, he sprayed it all over the reel, not just on the line.  I always thought that would have made it greasy and slick feeling so when I was gripping it I'd lose control over it and drop it in the water. ;)

Well after doing some more testing yesterday I can clearly say that the KVD is a far better product then Reel Magic.  You do not get the oily residue or do you get the chalky build up on your guides or on your reel.  The line also seems to be a lot more manageable and is far easier to tie knots as well.

So I am taking my reel that had Reel MAGIC on it apart and cleaning it up and putting on new line with KVD.

Later, ;)
