  1. I don't know that much about the different reels, but this one is called a "Tournament Plus". It is on sale until today 12/14, and they said it was sold as limited quantities. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CFPageC?storeId=10151&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&appID=163&option=3&template=circular.cfm&catalog=dec1_28_08_tab&rfx_versioningid=039&storeID=41
  2. BPS had 10 BB reels advertised for $39.99, I didn't expect them to be much, but after playing with one in the store for a bit I decided I needed 2. I LOVE THIS REEL! I know it isn't anything fancy, but is cast awesome. I was just curious if anyone else got one, and what they thought about it? The only have one other LP bait caster a BPS extreme, but I think I must have gotten a bad one. My BPS extreme seems very inconsistent casting with a lot of back lashing. These two reels I once I got them adjusted for the lure, not a single back lash.
  3. I had always used suffix or spider wire with no problems but....... I recently bought some PP and IMHO it breaks off a lot. I posted a similar post a month or so ago and I felt like I was crazy because everyone loves the PP.
  4. Thanks for all the responses, I don't think I will be buying BPS rods anymore either. I got this one as a Extreme combo for $99 wanting to try BPS equip. I will probably try and sand it down. Thanks again for the suggestions and comments
  5. Does anyone else hate the power hump on the BPS's rods? I think the rod seems super light, very sensitive, but I can not get used to the grip. For me it makes it harder to feather the spool when casting.
  6. Keep it on, I have one real with 3 yr. spider wire, and have had no problems.
  7. They look awesome, I was curious as well.
  8. I have 4 Abu round reels, and they are indestructable! I was very reluctant to even try a LP reel until a couple of months ago when I bought an BPS extreeme combo. I love my round reels. As far as the braking I am not sure, but I think mine only have a spool tension adjustment. I have used my thumb for so many years, since I started with an old Penn Round Reel for snagging that I didn't know there was a difference. In fact I have struggled a little bit with my new LP BC because it is spins so freely. I was so used to my old Abu's that I really whipped to get the lure out there that I had to relearn to through my new one. I will always love round reels, but the new LP's are so comfortable I grab it everytime.
  9. I am so JEALOUS! I would love to have 1 of those combos, let alone all of them. I would have them too, but for some reason my wife thinks it is important to save for our Son's college fund! Just kidding, but AWESOME combos!!!!!
  10. Are you sure it is coming undone at the knot? I just recently bought some PowerPro 20lb to give it a try. I had only used Spider Wire, and Sufix before and loved them. Tonight in the back yard I had a crazy thing happen with my PowerPro line I just spooled my bait caster wtih. I was throwing a 1/2 oz. spinner bait, about done for the night, thought I would try and give it one last super through when snap! I saw the spinner bait go flying and looked down at my reels new birds nest. I thought that my knot had come undone after reading everyone talking about trouble with knots holding in braid. When I went and retrieved my lure, I noticed it still had some string on it. The knot hadn't come undone; evidentially I must have backlashed it and the line broke. Either way I have never had this happen with sufix or spider wire.
  11. I bought the extreme combo a couple of months ago and love it. I got the 6'6" MH F, 7.1:1 reel. This is my primary rod and reel, unless I am using a weightless worm, which I use just a 30 dollar ugly stick spinning combo. I don't fish tournaments or anything, but I usually fish a couple times a week at a local city lake and have had zero trouble with mine. That being said my only other prior experience with bait casters are my old Abu round reels, so this was a step up for me.
  12. I had an old large round Penn reel that I used for snagging for years. Still have it but don't go snagging anymore. Lots of use, no cleaning, and no problems. Not sure on the newer light weight baitcasters, but my old one was tough as nails.
  13. Thank for your reply I was currious, after using old round reels this new little low profile one seems like a rocket ship! LOL Thanks again
  14. I just bought a BPS extreme combo today. I haven't got to fish with it yet, but I plan on going out tomorrow to give it a try. I have Abu round reels, but wanted to try one of the low profile reels to see if I could get more distance with it. So far, (just throwing it in the back yard) I love it, it is super smooth. The only thing I was a little dissapointed with was the casting distance. I cast it about the same as I could my Garcia Round reals. probably 20-25 yards. Just currious as to what is about right, plus I am not used to the braking system or what ever the dial on the side is for. Thanks for you comments and help.
