flag pole DIY - kayak
kenmitch - I was thinking the same thing. I actually have some real small plastic clips for strapping coax cable and what not. If they are loose enough around the pole, that would make it easy enough to slide in and out. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Gardner-Bender-1-2-in-1-Hole-Plastic-Cable-Clamps-12-Pack-PPC-1550UVB/100175900

pfd vs flag - kayak question
I saw a video on youtube where someone did that same exact thing. He ended up using material from an old pfd for the flag

flag pole DIY - kayak
I have a question for you kayak DIY'ers. In the link below, you will see a fiberglass rod that is used for a driveway/curb marker. I have a couple of these at my house, and I would like to utilize one for a flag pole for my kayak. In my mind, I see drilling a hole in to the deck of the kayak for this to fit through. Now the part that I am struggling with. What type of collar can I use that this would slide in to, but yet be secured inside the hull, directly underneath? If this had standard aluminum threads at the end of it, I could screw it in to a nut, on the underside. But it doesn't. But it would also need to be removed when transporting, or going under overhangs like trees/branches, so easy in, easy out would be preferred. Any suggestions? https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-48-in-Reflective-Rod-in-Orange-31474/304685319

pfd vs flag - kayak question
I will say, I really do like those yak attack flags with the lights on them, but at that price? Um no. Besides I'm never out at night, ever. So I am definitely looking in to options of a DIY flag or at least a cheaper option that looks good. But either way, I will be getting a flag and a pfd. I need the pfd anyways.

pfd vs flag - kayak question
Last couple seasons, I have been out on my kayak, tight to shore, fishing. And a couple times throughout the season I've had a motor boat zoom by me. The lake is plenty wide enough to where I could have been where I was and the motor boat could have easily been on the other side/in the middle of the lake. But for some reason they zoom by me at full speed. They are close enough I could seriously throw a rock at them as they pass. All I can do is sit there and wait for the wake to come, and go so I can continue. Whether or not they saw me, I am not sure. But as close as I am to shore, I'm not quite sure why they would have been that close anyways. (Also, this is in the middle of the day. No where near night time) So the more I think about it............ let's for a second, give the high speed boat the benefit of the doubt. So let's say they didn't see me. ( I still call BS) That means I need to do something to make myself more noticeable. I am debating two ideas. 1. I need a new pfd that fits me properly. So I was eye balling the 2019 Chinook pfd in RED. It's definitely eye popping. It would definitely make me stand out. 2. I thought about buying a less obnoxious colored pfd (still 2019 Chinook, but in charcoal), and adding an orange yakattack flag on the rear of the kayak. Now, the flag definitely has a lower profile, but would stand up higher than the seat. I don't think it would be enough to warn boaters that I am there. I could easily do both, but I was hoping a pfd would kill two birds with one stone. Anyone else wear bright colored pfd's for this reason? Or do you buy the orange flags?

strapping kayak to crossbars on roof of vehicle
I saw those on ack.com as well. I will admit, I am not a fan of ropes/straps rubbing on the hood of the vehicle. I know I can place towels or whatever to protect it. But those hood anchors look better but to answer the length question, my vehicle is 15ft long, and the yak is 10'-6"

strapping kayak to crossbars on roof of vehicle
the yak gear straps with the cover are on sale for $8 right now. That link doesn't mention the rollercam, like the picture you also provided does. Is there a benefit to the roller cam vs the yak gear ones?

interesting. I found those. They are called "rope lock tie downs". Who would have thought. I only ever seen/used the straps. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D2B94D2/ref=sspa_dk_detail_1?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B07D2B94D2&pd_rd_w=xakW8&pf_rd_p=80559f3c-f83b-49c1-8a72-40f936e9df7a&pd_rd_wg=OeerD&pf_rd_r=Q2X3E194FV4FG71N78PS&pd_rd_r=724cd6bd-3917-11e9-9811-274d63e66d10

strapping kayak to crossbars on roof of vehicle
I use cam locks all the time for transporting my kayak. But until this season, I never had to haul it on top of my vehicle. I plan on using the camlocks for the crossbars. 1. what are those? 2. How do you tighten them as needed, without undoing the knot every time?

can you recommend a strap that is best used at the bow/stern handle locations? I'm assuming ratchet straps are best to use at these locations?

How much strain can you put on the front and rear handles before it's too much? Those handles are my only tie down spots at the front and rear. Always read you don;t want to use them as anchor points. is that a true statement?

strapping kayak to crossbars on roof of vehicle
I have watched a number of videos on you tube when it comes to strapping a kayak to the crossbars on the top of your vehicle. In the videos I have seen, they run a kayak strap from one side to another per cross bar. So two straps. I don't see anyone show/mention tying the front and rear down to a hitch/frame under the bumpers of the vehicle. Are the two straps that go from left to right enough to hold it in place?

verbinator donkey
I have attended the Columbus fishing expo for the past couple years. Each time there, I noticed that Verbinator baits was there. I decided to stop at their display area yesterday white in attendance. They certainly have some eye catching colored plastics. One being the donkey worm. I looked on their site to get more info about the company, But they didn't have much information. (www.verbinatorbaits.com) Does anyone know where they are based out of? How long they've been around? I did buy 4 packs of the 5.5" donkeys. Various colors. Those worms are nice and fat. Look very promising. Has anyone else purchased these same worms online? Anyone ever use these worms and had any more success from them, compared to the next worm?

kayak deck padding
I've seen those both as well. The one from ACK has been discontinued. I spoke to them about the black, and they said they no longer had it in stock. I didn't check on the gray. As for the Hook 1, I was hoping for a roll of it. I needed adding that was wider than the 12" they offered. My issue is with the sizes. Which is what limits me. I don't like seams, so I'd rather not piece together.

Perception Pescador Pro 10 worm storage
Minus a few things, your set up sounds very similar to mine. I still have a couple months to figure something out. I thought of attaching a worm bag to the chair, but I also don't want to have clutter in front of the seat. That will be my working area. I did see a bag that actually attaches to the rail mounts. They have the attachment accessories where they slide in to the track. But again, the bag is still too tall. Options options

Perception Pescador Pro 10 worm storage
For those of you that own/owned a Perception Prescador Pro, whether it be the 10ft or 12ft model. I believe the height of the walls inside the kayak are the same, so I will go with that..... At the location of where the foot pedals are, you have the outer wall that runs parallel to your legs/feet. On my kayak, that height from floor to top is about 4" high. I really want to place a mesh tote right there to carry bags of worms. But the smallest tote that I like is 6" in height. The foot pedal track gets in the way of it. I could put the worms in my crate behind the seat, even a mesh carrier as I am describing mounted to the crate itself. But I want something in front of me easily accessible. I was looking at this from ACK. This is very ideal, but again, the height stops it. And I'm not sure where else I can mount it so that it's not in the way. www.austinkayak.com/products/18657/TackleWebs-Accessory-Storage-Pouch-14"W-X-6"H-Velcro-2-Pack.html What have you guys done for this? I'm definitely open to options. Again, not opposed to attaching it to the crate, but not ideal for me.

opinion on these hull scratches
just to double check, I shined a flashlight over the scratches and saw nothing inside the hull, so I believe I'm good. I have accepted their offer and will move forward. I wish it were warmer so I could take it on the water and test it. But I will need to wait for April/May. Certainly don't want to roll it in this weather. thanks for the input

opinion on these hull scratches
They even offered to send me a KC welder, offer the credit, along with welder filler. I'd be ok with filling it in.
