  1. For me, to limit the amount of planos I have, I place my dozen or so bags of plastics in a gallon ziplock bag. I haven't had no problems with that method. But I also don't have a lot.
  2. I have always used snaps. I am not brand loyal. Mine have come from ebay, as well as buying Bass Pro Shop branded snaps. As long as it's the right size, I'm good. I have never had them fail. I saw the picture above where someone put a piece of rubber/nylon banding on a spinner bait in order to use a snap. I never thought of that! Holy crap! game changer. I'd probably be more inclined to use the spinnerbait now. Hate retying!
  3. I recently purchased a Garmin Striker 4 fish finder. I have it all wired up, and connected to my 9AH battery in my kayak. All is powered up, and working fine. My biggest concern I have is that the 20 ga wire (red/black), that goes from the unit to the battery is very thin. I have the wire crimped into the connectors, that slide on to the battery terminals. Over time, when I remove those wires from the battery in order to charge it, I can really see those wires breaking. how can i strengthen the connection at the connector so I wouldn't need to worry about the wire from breaking over time? 4. ya, lucky for me, I always have 3 rods, 3 3700 planos, and 1 gallon ziplock bag that holds my plastics. so I travel light to begin with. Considered knocking it down to 1 3700, and a couple plastics for cold water fishing. (just a thought) With my inventory being so simple, it certainly isn't much of a downsize
  5. I have a Perception Pescador Pro 100. I haven't changed any of my gear for the kayak. I have always used 6'-6" to 7'-0" rods. I certainly haven't had any issues. I have used this PFD over the past year, and actually enjoy it. It's very comfortable. It certainly doesn't restrict my movement while paddling. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07M62DHNQ/ref=twister_B07M62DRXT?_encoding=UTF8&th=1&psc=1
  6. For those of you that fish out of a kayak in every season. Do you dumb down your arsenal for each season? Meaning, let's say, you're fishing in the spring (whether it be pre-spawn/spawn/post). Would you only bring your lures that would relate to the time of season, or do you bring everything you own, JUST IN CASE? I was thinking about this, if I dumbed down, I could have the top 5 cold water lures all in one box, and all the extra "Stuff" wouldn't need to be gone through. Not that my arsenal ever gets in my way while fishing, but it would certainly take up less space. so, do you only take what you need for the specific time of year?
  7. I realize I don't have a boat, but I do have a kayak. With limited space, and with me needing to keep things simple. Here is how I store my terminal tackle. Went to my local Kroger, and asked if they'd sell me a hand full of prescription bottles (they ended up giving them to me). I label the lids with each container's contents. Keep them in my box/caddy. Easy access for me, and nothing getting mixed up together.
  8. I was at BPS yesterday picking up a rod, and I asked the sales guy there about the classic. He told me it starts March 12th or thereabouts. I didn't ask why, but at least he gave me a date to shoot for.
  9. I'm almost a one lure person, almost. I will throw a black bandit, 100/200 series, 98% of the time. That other 2%, I will tie on one of my many plastic worms. Try that for a tad, hoping for bigger/better results. Then I switch back shortly after. Cranks are my friend
  10. I was in the BPS yesterday, and talked to the sales dude about this very thing. Although he didn't mention any flyers, he did tell me that the classic will start March 12th this year. Unless he got his months mixed up (February vs March), but he said March. I guess when we see flyers, we get our answers.
  11. If it is in fact this one: https://malibukayaks.com/kayaks/mini-x/ If it were me, I would go the Mini X route. That seems to be the better value for the fishing aspect, not to mention a little wider, more stable. I get that the dolphin comes with a paddle, anchor, and kayak dolly. But never owning one before, I'd question the quality of that paddle. If I had to guess, you'd be buying a new/upgraded paddle at one point. Depending on the waters you fish. But I s'pose the Dolphin paddle would be enough to get you started. I wouldn't skimp on a paddle though. Assuming both come with a seat? You would most likely be modifying either one you go with, I would assume. So keep the desired modifications in mind when selecting. But if you had to, an anchor, and kayak dolly could be had for fairly cheap. I wouldn't let those "included items" weigh on your decision. but that's just me. But, Mini X, final answer.
  12. I was watching this thread throughout the day, seeing the nets others have shown. I went to BPS to pick up a spinning rod and just happened to walk around the nets. I came across this one, it was on sale for $10 (22"). It has a nylon coating, rather than a true rubber. I'll see how it handles on the water. If it does happen to be junk, then I will upgrade as needed. Certainly didn't plan on this net when I was there. It sorta just popped up, and obviously I liked the price https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/bass-pro-shops-shadow-tech-landing-net
  13. I'm actually leaving today to pick this up. I have a Cabelas and BPS next to me, hopefully they aren't sold out of them completely. I'm looking to get a 6'-6". Can't see a need for the additional 6" for a 7', fishing from a kayak
  14. Since this has to do with a kayak, I figured I'd post it here. I am looking for a decent rubber fishing net, ideal for a kayak. I have looked all around, seeing some anywhere from $20-$100. I certainly don't need anything hi-tech, but also don't want junk. I've been eye-balling the yak attack collapsible net ($90), not crazy about that price. I think that's overkill for me. Especially for the amount of use it would get. Would like to stay as far away from that $90 price range as possible Anyone care to share the rubber net they use on their kayak? Here is a link to the yak attack net - https://www.yakattack.us/leverage-landing-net-12-x-20-hoop-with-foam-extension-lln122047k/ The biggest use for me is the 1-2 tourneys I might do a year, as well as if I were to catch a toothy critter that I need to prepare to release
  15. thanks for the input. I was looking at both of those brands you mentioned, but it looks like are both discontinued. I go camping 2-3 days a year. So it definitely doesn't get used a lot. When I do camp, it's usually towards the end of may. So weather isn't too cold. Last year I went, I borrowed a buddies therma-rest pad (as I mentioned in the OP), and that worked nicely. That one night had an unseasonably cold temperature, in the 40's. But I was warm and had no problems. I would imagine the normal temps would be in the 50s/60s for that time of year. But like everything else, gotta prepare for the possible low temps.
  16. I have been fishing since 2009, and my primary lure of choice is, and always will be the crankbait. Just until a few years ago, I have added plastics to my arsenal. I always start with my Black Bandit Crankbait (200 series), and I will fish it for a long while. When I am having zero luck, then I'll throw the plastics for a bit. But they don't get nearly as much time on the water, before I switch back. Love my cranks. Black is my friend
  17. I'm about 20 minutes from my local lake.
  18. I thought the same thing. But I didn't want to start grinding if I didn't need to. So does it not matter how far up into that pocket it sits? That pocket is pretty big, any rock/boulder/stump can make it's way up, no matter where it is.
  19. I have a Perception Pescador Pro 100. I just installed a transducer for a Garmin Striker 4 fish finder. I have the transducer completely collapsed as far as it would go. I have the bracket that the fish finder came with, in place. Here are some pictures of the finished install. Can anyone tell me if this looks right? It's at a slight angle, but it can't be straightened, unless I sand the bracket down a tad, at an angle. Has anyone else had to modify their bracket on this same kayak?
  20. @GTN - I don't believe so. It definitely feels like a cramp or strain. This weekend I'm going to begin making some modifications to the seat in hopes that it will work. Problem is, is that I can't test it out till spring. I will make the best logical mod, and see how that works. As you mentioned, it could just be a seat pad that fixes all.
  21. I contacted Garmin directly, and here is what they told me: IPX7 Suitable: Mounting on vehicles (e.g. boat, motorcycle, bike, ATV, golf cart) Splashes Rain or snow Incidental exposure to water of up to 1 meter for up to 30 minutes
  22. As 12poundbass stated, maybe it was a fluke. The review mentioned having to cover it with a ziplock baggy when it rained. Thank you for that clarification Tennessee.
  23. Which is what I was thinking too. But if I go up to the next model which is another $40, that states that it is waterproof. (Garmin Striker Plus 4) The reviews mentioned that the screen/buttons were not waterproof.
  24. I was looking to get this fish finder for my kayak. I see it on Amazon for $99, as well as BPS. I read some reviews on Amazon where users said that this fish finder is NOT waterproof. You are completely surrounded by water, and who doesn't fish in the rain?! Can anyone confirm this? Is it really not waterproof?
  25. I was looking on youtube and found a couple, still looking for the best option
