  1. I use Createx paints and E-Tex epoxy. I rushed a bait once {okay maybe twice} by simply putting to many coats on at one time and clearing before they cured which caused the paint under the epoxy to crackle I guess you would call it. Slow down and epoxy the next day and you should be fine. Also the only thing I use water-based clear on is my signature because the epoxy will smear it. How ever you could skip this step if you have the right pen. I am not sure this is your problem but that's what it sounds like to me. Buzz
  2. Haven't discussed that yet, but depending on the amount of work he wants done I may just foot the bill for the materials. Just depends on what he is thinking the boat is worth compared to what I think my top notch paint job is worth. He also just had David Fritts [a well known pro who happens to be is cousin] go through the outboard for $500.00. So I would think David would do his cousin right if nobody else. Yes I really like this boat but I haven't let on to much, telling him I really want a bass boat. But nobody's asked to trade a bass boat for painting and I sure don't have the funds to buy one so this one will do just fine. It WILL be mine!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Buzz
  3. I am a residential painter and I have a client wanting to trade this boat for some paint work. It is a 98 Dura Craft 1748 all metal transom with a 98 Johnson 50 with T/T and a Load Rite galvanized trailer. It has 2 live wells a 43 lb thrust foot controlled trolling motor, a depth finder, 2 batteries 2 gas tanks and nice canvas cover with outboard cover made together. This boat has a factory vinyl coating on the inside that looks like marine carpet that I really like. Looks to have been very well taken care of. Owner says it runs perfect and I can take it out any time I wish. This would be a big step up from my 1232 5 hp jon. Buzz
  4. I can't find the link where I learned to do this so I will try to describe it the best I can. As far as the grips go; I wrapped painters tape around the grip where I wanted to cut it, then I cut down to the blank being ever so cautious. Make a few slices from one cut to the other and chew it out with a pair of pliers again being very cautious not to damage the blank. Now for the hard part; removing the glue. I did this with sand paper progressively going from coarse to fine grit to get it clean. To shape the cork I used a rasp to rough it in, then take sand paper in one hand and twist rod with the other hand to make it uniform. Again going from coarse to fine grit. Hope you understood all that. This shows how to do the marble. although I used testors paint for the colors, just have to let it settle and pour out the clear solvent on top. All you want is the thick pigment. I will try to answer any questions. David
  5. I really like Sufix Siege. Available at Wal-Mart at a great price. Make sure you put line on reel so it is spinning the spool not like you would for a spinning reel, and of course KVD line & lure the night before. David
  6. Not able to find them on TW! Whats up?
  7. Yeh, it's a little wavey feeling when you run your fingers down it. Not bad though. The marbling technique doesn't alloy you to pick up sags and when you do it on a cardboard box with some Vs cut in it doesn't help either. Next one will be better with a dryer motor. Thanks guys for all the comps!
  8. Split the grip, cut the fore grip shorter and marbled the newly exposed areas. Building a wrapper and dryer in my spare time so a ground up build is on the way. David
  9. This is a Quantum rod that I split the grip, removed fore grip and foiled with a pearl foil straight over the graphite. This was a very cool and fairly easy project. After a few more of these I guess I'll try my hand at making some rods. David
  10. A friend gave me 3 reels that did that. All I did was give them a good cleaning and fresh lube, now they work like new. I've been using them all summer without any problems. Just take out the pawl and clean it and the worm gear with a small brush, re-lube and see if that fixes it.
  11. What up, got to be more people interested in this, so here's a bump.
  12. I'm confused, explain rear weighted! David
  13. I can't believe no one has mentioned the RT lizard. This thing is like no other lizard. Them little flapping legs are the trick. I caught 9 bass and a blue gill yesterday on one lizard, half of them were after I pinched the head off from being tore up. I bet you thought that only work on worms. I have even took an ol' monster that lost it's tail and a used up RT lizard's back legs and tail, put them together with my lighter on the boat and caught fish with it. Got to recycle nowdays. But I guess that would be another topic. Junebug would be my color choice. If you try the RT lizard you may not go back to any other brand. And get you some Megastrike if you don't already have some. David
  14. I ordered a switch from them got it in 2 days. David
  15. Zoom Ole Monster black grape worm, texas rigged 3/16 oz bullet and a little MegaStrike rubbed on. Had to wrestle this one out of a laydown. Was so excited just to get her out of the tree, me and her both took a short break before I brought her on in the boat not knowing it was my PB. But hey I had MegaStrike on that ole worm so I had that extra time to breathe. Big thanks to Bobby Megastrike and oh yeh Zoom too. She weighed in at 7lbs even. David
  16. Here's a rainbow trout pattern. This is my favorite pattern I've done so far. I hope you like it as much as I do. David
  17. Thanks guys, just bought a tube of MegaStrike at a local shop, and just ordered 2 bottles of JJ's [chartreuse and methylate] from their site. David
  18. Anyone know an online store that stocks both of these? Just looking to save on shipping. David
  19. I have the 8' and it fits in my Chevy Astro van perfectly. Took an old trolling motor mount and rigged wheels up to it. It stays in the van fully loaded and ready to go. I pull up to my usual parking spot at my local resevoir, open the back doors, slide it out and down on the wheels and roll it to the water. I'm fishing with in 3-4 minutes. Life is Good! David
  20. I have 4 rods and 5 reels, how should I pair these up and for what purpose should they be used? And what rod could I purchase that would be a good match for the 5th reel? Here is the list; REELS BPS Extreme ETX10HD 6.4:1 Diawa TD2Hi 6.3:1 w/flipping switch Quantum DSS400C 5.1:1 Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 5000-C /don't know speed Shimano B-Mag 1000 / don't know speed RODS Lew's Stick 5'8" worm rod, 1/2 - 1 1/2 oz BPS Bionic Blade 6'6" MH fast, 3/8 - 1 oz Berkley Lightning Rod 7' MH, 1/4 - 1 1/4 oz Berkley Cherrywood 7' Medium, 1/4 - 3/4 oz Thanks to all that reply. David
  21. Thanks guys! Marty that is the bait with the .22 shells you made for me. It got into a fight with my buddy's Nitro windshield and lost. But I have to say it held it's on, only a deep gouge and a little crack up in the clear. The bait did not crack or split and will go on to fight again. David
  22. Thanks for all the kind words. David
  23. J-B, You came to the right place, and you asked the right man. Marty's baits are top notch as is he. By the way great work Marty. David
