First musky of the year (pic)
Well, I decided to do a little "hobby" fishing this evening and give the bass a break. I hit a spot on the Potomac that I had some action with a 40-42 incher last week. Well, I was out for about 30 minutes when I tied into a small one. This little guy hit a bucktail (my first ever on a bucktail). I stuck around to see if I could get some action with the bigger one I had seen last week and had another one hit a top water bait but could get that one hooked up. Guess it was a day of firsts cause it was the first action I had on my Quantum musky rod! Here's a pic of the one I landed. Please excuse the pic! I was in a rush trying to get it back in the water and cut my head off in the pic! LOL!

Berkley vanish transition
While I'm a Berkley Trilene fan, the Vanish is JUNK! If you want to stick with fluro, try Bass Pro Shops XPS fluro. Much better line IMO. If you want to go with a mono, give the Suffix Elite a shot! I've tried it for the first time this year and really like it so far! If the trend stays this way, I'll probably switch all my mono over to Suffix.

Thanks for the input Sam! Thanks for the offer Allen! Maybe we could meet up sometime since we're rather close to each other. I'm just down the road from you in Williamsport.

Black Hills (Little Seneca lake) night fishing
I ended up doing some shore fishing this evening. My partner had something come up and couldn't make it. I started out trying to fish the one area that I fair well at earlier on in the year but it didn't quite suit me so I moved down to my stand by area down by the boat ramp. Surprisingly, I had the whole area to myself! Started out fishing a spinnerbait and managed a small keeper on a Rattlehead spinnerbait running it just over top the weeds. Shortly after the sun went down, I switched up to top water. I found this one spot that's rather shallow and filled with muck. Out of curiosity, I tied on a Spro Bronze Eye frog and made a few casts. I managed a 20 inch 4lber out of there! Its the first hook up I've had on the Bronze Eye! Once I get the picture downloaded from my phone, I'll post a pick. Did anyone else make it out? If so, how did you do?

Spike it blade dip
I used to buy spinnerbait blades from Picasso in a couple of different metallic colors. The last time I checked, Picasso stopped selling them. So I did a search and found this stuff: http://www.barlowstackle.com/acb/showdetl.cfm?&DID=6&Product_ID=1862&CATID=70 From the pics, it looks close to the blades I was buying. I was just curious if anyone else has used it and how well it held up?

Cheesy thread, but seriously
Who stops fishing when there's a little snow or the ground? ;D I'm lucky enough to be a little farther south than you Tony but I also have two warm water discharge areas to fish for smallies in the winter if the lakes are iced over. There's nothing like being out in the middle of the winter with a fresh coat of snow on the ground with a spot all to myself! Wait a minute! Then spring would be just around the corner and I can catch them in the prespawn! ;D

Hitting Baitfish?
Welcome to the boards! To add to Road Warrior's list, the Zara Spook and Spittin Image top water baits can be launched a long way as well. You could also opt for a Little George or Strike King's Thruster Tail. Toss them into the middle of the action and let them sink down through. Generally, the smaller bass will bust up the baitfish while the bigger ones wait below for the easier meal to come floating down.

My First:
I feel your pain for sure! Only mine was a 20# musky! NOT FUN!!!!!

? regarding line size.
Just curious, are you having problems with the Stealth digging down into the spool? I tried 30# Stealth before and had nothing but problems.

Braid Preference
Suffix here. If I had to switch, I'd go to Power Pro.

Black Hills (Little Seneca lake) night fishing
Already have plans sorry? Why do they have it during the middle of the week? Allen No problem Allen! I remembered you saying about possibly trying to make the one in July. As to why they have to do these in the middle of the week, I have NO clue! LOL! You'd think they'd make alot more money (boat ramp fee) if they'd have it on friday or saturday night. Go figure. At least the fishing should be fairly good with the full moon coming up!

My First:
Nice job (well except for the hook part)! Hopefully, that pike didn't cause the hook to end up in your hand! Been there, done that, DON'T want that to happen again or to anyone else!

I'll save it for the next time I talk to ya! I'll just say, I got Dad's version of the story and leave it at that.

Black Hills (Little Seneca lake) night fishing
Ok, well at least here's a couple days notice this time! LOL! Night fishing at Black Hills is Wednesday July 16th. I'll be out on the lake this time! Not on my boat, but at least I'll be on the water this time! Come on Munkin! You know you want to make the run down to Montgomery county! ;D

upper potomac
Nice looking smallie! It's alot lighter colored than the ones I've been catching! They've had all but black backs in the areas I've been fishing. Lucky you with the boating volume! My last time out wasn't too bad, but the time before, I was lucky to get the last spot in the parking lot. Not going to mention some of the goofballs out on the water that blew right past me when I was fishing a spot. >

Channel Cat on a spinnerbait? I had no idea
The handful of channel cats that I've caught one bass lures have come on cranks. About a week or two ago, I was fishing a pond (with a spinnerbait) when I had a "HUGE bass crush the spinnerbait. But something just wasn't right, when I got it next to the shore, I figured out why! Turned out to be about a 5lb channel cat. I had NO idea there were catfish in the pond. It "only" took me about 5 minutes to retune my Premire Plus spinnerbait after that fight! LOL

Best lures
If you're after musky baits too, you may want to check out Musky Shops too.

whats working
I fished the upper Potomac twice over the holiday weekend. Jerkbaits and small cranks did the trick for me. The Bandit 100 series, Smithwick Rattlin Rogues (suspending and floating) and Rapala's XRAP were my basic arsenal. You can NEVER go wrong with tubes either!

setting hooks on wacky rigged senkos
Circle- no hook set, let fish load rod. Octopus or finesse wise gap--SET the hook EWG- SET the hook (not for wacky rigging but will work in a pinch) Thanks LBH! I'll give it another shot setting the hook properly and see what happens.

setting hooks on wacky rigged senkos
Yeah, what am I missing here? Isn't the Gammy EWG Finnese hook basically a modified circle hook? When I first started fishing with these hooks, I tried setting the hook just like LBH demonstrates in his video and all that happened was I was loosing the bait and coming up with a bare hook. Once I started just reeling and letting the bass load the rod, my hook up ratio improved drastically. :-?
