  1. Hey Brett, Where on the Potomac were you fishing?
  2. Good fish and good story! I'm with JHAWK on the weight guestimation. somewhere between 4 & 5lbs. My largest one so far this year is a 19 3/4" largemouth that was just under 4lbs. It's hard to tell for sure from a pic, again, just a guess. To be safe, carry at least an analog scale, then there is less room for doubt! Again, good fish and good story! Congrats!
  3. Hey c17Lat, I've never fished Rocky Gorge so I can't help you out much. But I can tell you that MD DNR put a small snippet in the Freshwater fishing report on their site this week. Here's the link: http://www.dnr.state.md.us/fisheries/fishingreport/freshwater.asp Hope it helps some.
  4. The past few times I've hit the Potomac in Washington county, I've had decent luck. Largest smallie might have been around 17". I've been cathcing mine on a number of baits. Cranks, tubes and Tiki sticks. My last time out (last evening), I landed 8 smallies. 5 on cranks and 3 on a tube. Had 5 more come unbuttoned on the fight on the cranks. The retrieve was key for me! I'd crank it down and then go into a pull pause retrieve. I'd do a 2 count pause (one thousand one-one thousand two) and they were crushing it! Hope this helps!
  5. Hey tubesock, I haven't fished that section either but I can offer you this advise. Try checking the the river gauges around that section. I usually keep track of two different gauges in Washington county. I use one as my level gauge and the other to keep track of the water temps. Here's the site I use. http://waterdata.usgs.gov/md/nwis/current/?type=flow Hope this helps some.
  6. I use Bass Pro's XPS fluro. I use 10# test on one of my crankbait rods and 17# test on my spinnerbait rods. I can throw 1/8oz spinnerbaits with no problems. When I tie or re-tie a bait, I always check the reel settings regards of whether I'm changing the weight of the lure. If the winds changes on me, a quick tweek of the magnets typically does the trick for me to help me prevent back lashes.
  7. I have two crankbait rods. Both are spooled with 10# test, but one I have spooled with XPS fluro and the other with Berkley Sensation.
  8. I am lucky enough to get to fish during lunch. A week or so back, we had a beautiful day! I grabbed my gear and headed to one of my favorite spots. I walk down to my spot and have the entire cove all to myself! I thought this is going to be fun! Well, turns out I was only there maybe 5 minutes when I see a bass boat come into the cove on the other end. No big deal. As they work their way around to my side, I make sure they can see the area I'm covering. I turned away from them to work the upper side of the hole and the next thing I know, I hear a "plop". I look about 10 yards out from me and see line running past me. These two turkeys, no offense meant to the real birds, had pulled up well within my casting range and camped out there for a while and proceeded to work through the section I had been fishing. I told one of my buddies when I got back to work, "and so it begins". He asked what and I told him, "its moron season"! Either from boat or from shore, I try to stay at least two of my longest casts away from someone else. If someone is camped in the hole I want to fish, I just move on to another spot. Why can't others do the same? I think Fisher of Men said it best, these people haven't grown up!
  9. Nothing wrong with a little rain! alger's pic looks like me on sunday! Well, at least until the lightning started. That's the only time I won't be on the water! Bad mojo there! ;D Asked my brother if he made it out over the weekend and his response was "well I would have if it wasn't raining". So my come back to him was "don't worry, the bass are already wet"!
  10. That's a shame! Fished two tournaments there 2 years ago. Placed 4th in the first one and not so well in the second one. It took a different style of fishing then what I typically do but that's what made it so fun! Hope they can get things turned around there.
  11. Man, that really stinks! I've only experienced 3 treble hook incidents. First one was a LONG time ago! I was on the sending end. I was musky fishing with Dad and didn't realize he was walking behind me. I drew back to make a cast and got him in the back. Luckily, no doctor was needed to remove the hooks! Next one was a few years ago. I was fishing with a friend on my boat. He was using spinning tackle and the bail must have closed on him cause on his cast, the line stopped and I found a Excaliber top water bait in my leg. Since I only made about 10 casts, I cut the hooks out and went back to fishing. ;D The last time, a day I can't live down at work, was another musky fishing battle. I was out at a HOT spot, by myself of course, when I hooked a decent musky. Landed it rather quickly (experienced taught me that! LOL!) and when I tried to remove the hook from the musky, it threw its head up and drove two of the front two trebles into my right hand. Um, the back hook is still in the fairly green 45" musky! After another angler came by, he removed the hook from the bait so I could get to the hospital to get that one removed! Top Raider hooks aren't made to go in a human! OUCH! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. BK, Do you think the wind ever stops there? LOL!!!!!
  13. IMO, it has a different action than a Senko. I've had days when the Tiki Stick out performs the Senko and just as many day when the Senko out did the Tiki. For largemouths, I perfer the Bam-Boo Sicks. For smallies, the original Tiki Sticks.
  14. Chambersburg? Who in their right mind would live there? ;D M-Gunner. Where are you located in MD? Good luck if you do get out!
  15. That seems like a pretty long float Matt. Putting in at Mexico and floating to Muskrat Springs would be a decent float. There's deeper than average water, from what I remember from the last time I made that float. The last part of the float does get on the shallow side but I've still seen 20" smallies come out of that section.
  16. Thanks for the post tubesock! Welcome aboard!
  17. I'm leaving now! I'm leaving now! ;D Have a school function for my daughter this evening or I'd have an hour left too. Good Luck!!!
  18. He won't reply! I sent him a PM a while ago and haven't heard from him since! LOL!
  19. Now just a minute here! What did I do to you SPEED? Nothing to worry about from me yet....... best I've place at MG is 4th. Of course, last year doesn't count either! ;D Hey SPEED, any luck on that, um, bait yet?
  20. With the small series of tournies I fish there, having a map would be great! I did learn a few things last year in the two outings I fished there. With the lake being as low as it was, I found a bunch of off shore struture that wasn't visible when the lake was up. Not sure if it was always there or they had added it over the winter. The last I had heard about the lake, the dam had been fixed so it should be back up or on its way back to a normal level. Hey boatnik, what site are your maps going to be on?
  21. *** sells a GREAT lubricant! Highly recommend it! If not his lubes then I'd suggest Ardent's Reel Butter.
  22. All Quantums here. Mainly the Accurist but just picked up my 3rd Energy PT and LOVE it!!!!!!!
  23. Not sure what hooks they use but I can tell you they are a great spinnerbait! They've been my best big bass spinnerbait and is responsible for my PB largemouth. Well worth the $$$$ IMO.
  24. I work in Germantown so I get to sneak over at lunch. Lunch time has been REAL hit or miss. I had caught a couple on jigs around submerged timber. I have fished it after work on occassion and had mixed results. The spinnerbait bite is starting to pick up somewhat. I caught 3 in a little over an hour monday evening on a spinnerbait, my biggest one was 18". My biggest so far from Black Hills is 19 3/4" and weighed almost 4lbs. I caught that one on a Bass Pro Shop swimbait. I was out this evening and got blanked. I tried a spinnerbait, swimbait, tube and a deep diving crank this evening. Direct sun light has been the key on the days I've caught multiple bass. Hope this helps some!
