  1. if you want to bass fish...check out the dnr site. each resevoir has different stocked fish. and each one has its own specific rules. very strict and enforced outdoor laws and rules. they take their stuff very seriously out there ie...big fines, comfiscated equipment and so on. extremely awesome experience though. i wish i still lived there!!!
  2. my vote is for the pflueger. i had the 40 size and it was a touch too big for my liking. felt good until you had it in your hand all day. i traded it to a buddy that fishes for cats. but i have never seen another reel that stands that tall for the price!
  3. check cabelas free shipping as i found there is a minimum order amount to get the free shipping! i love all my quantums. i have the tour30, energy20, and this years catalyst20ptib. i have tried others and havent found another real i like as much. especially on sale!!! i have heard others bash them but i dont think they actually gave them a fair shot. just my opinion.
  4. the only other one i would get for your d-shot, shakies, etc... 7ft med/fast. i believe its the 701. i love mine for shakin and light plastics. light cranks too.
  5. i love both of mine and will buy more as i need them. i also had to use the warranty and it is great. i had my rod which was broke during shipping(long story) and they replaced it with just an email! great to deal with.
  6. i picked up a few and played with them. ebay and the classifieds here are a good place to get some experience for cheap. i bought a few from ebay to start until i settled on quantum. as far as opinions go...you are the only one who knoes what you like. try a few or borrow a few before you go and dump money into something you dont like!
  7. bps had these on sale for 1.99! the bait monkey did everything except pull the money out of my wallet! i got 2, 1 firetiger and 1 splatterback(bluegillish). just wonderin if they produce?
  8. anyone tried this co-polymer? went to bps to find some yo-zuri hybrid but they were all out of 6-12# so i picked up some silver thread. way cheaper too(5.99per330yds). i plan on spooling my spinning tour pti30 for an all purpose line. just wondering if anyone likes, dislikes, cheers and jeers.
  9. how does the uni-uni knot go through the guides. i primarily fish braid and have clear water. i too am going to a flouro leader but was concerned about which knot will fly through the guides well. i love braid and dont want to switch. i seem to get plenty of bites on just braid but can a leader get me more? we will find out
  10. i was just looking at a jdm website and saw a $399.00 pocket knife. holy cow. for that money i hope that it slices, dices, soufles, and catches fish for me. this was an ordinary 3-4inch nothing special except it said megabass. really?! i guess there is a market or they would not have made it. how many of you would or do purchase jdm versus a tried and true barlow or old timer? just using the knife for reference. jdm tackle sure is neat but is it worth it? or just a fetish?
  11. are the pre rigged setups no good? seems like the same thing just done already. am i wrong? strike king makes one that i just bought to try. just wondering what the difference is. i too am looking to try c-riggin' this year.
  12. i just picked one up, the floater. wow i cant wait to throw this thing. what situations are ideal to throw this bait? i live and fish northern ohio and indiana. mostly clear glacial lakes with alot of veggies. i dont have any experience with swimbaits. can you throw these in the middle? weed edges? points? sandy beach areas? all of the above? very curious as to this baits full potential. alot of anxiety as well, i have never spent over 10bucks on any bait. lots of high expectations as well.
  13. i just bought a pack of speed clips to try. normally i tie directly but i noticed i was going through alot of line retying(palomar). i use alot of braid and am not interested in wasted time and money. i do use snap and swivel for cranks and inlines. the only prob is they like to grab the front treble on the cast. hopefully the speed clip will remedy that.
  14. is anybody else tired of this whole corvette thing? sure there are other cars that go fast and attract women...and on and on and on...haha just had to throw that one in. it all boils down to preference and region. some work others dont(i.e...the new gto). sorry i am a car guy. but you get my point. personally i am sick of the whole swimbait thing but, i live in northern ohio. those swimbaits are as big as some of the bass i catch.hahaha! to each their own, i just wish i came up with it first. rats foiled again.
  15. football heads are definitely for rocks. the wider they are the less they get caught in crevices. spot removers are for anywhere you need a bait to stand up i.e...shaky, beds, sight fishing, etc... they can both be used for different tasks but that is the main purpose.
  16. i too love my orange stix! i just got some reel grips too match. i love my m/h 7 footer for jigs, certain topwater, lipless etc...
  17. i also use powerpro. works awesome for me! i am wanting to try high-seas grand slam. they have some very interesting claims which are almost identical to daiwa samurai but way cheaper! and they are an american company producing products in america!
  18. buckeye lures spot remover pro model...
  19. i was also there! one of the coolest opportunities to meet them! kvd and hank parker!!! what a day. they were both extremely nice and kvd was giving tips and knowledge out like we were fishing buddies! what other sport can this type of encounter happen?! try getting tom brady to tell you his secrets or even get close enough! just another great thing about our sport!
  20. what happened to being excited to fish or trying to excite others? what happened to having fun? that is all he tries to do. as far as him being a spoiled rich boy...read up on him. his father kicked out of the family business and his bait shop went out of business. he started his whole show by himself and even found his own sponsors! he created it all himself. he may be annoying but he deserves credit. and he is definetly doing more for the sport than others simply by showing that you can be excited and have fun with the sport of fishing! so instead of calling someone an idiot maybe we should appreciate the fact that he is on our side! just my 2cents...
  21. northerner here too, i am in noble county. i am in the chain o'lakes system, nice clear glacial lakes here too. i am also a boater,17'nitro, and most weekends can be found ticking off fish of some kind in northeast indiana. if anyone has any good spots around the area and wants to help a fellow angler...feel free to pm me the info. i like bass and musky but not prejudice against any other fish. may the schwartz be with you!
  22. oxbow lake is a joke!!! i live less than 10 miles from there and fished it often! it is very tempermental when it comes to bass! either they will bite with a few dinks and maybe one keeper or nothing. if you like catfish, that is the place! i dont know how many times i've pitched a jig into brush and come up with a cat! there are way better lakes. one is harrison lake(close to west unity) which is suppossed to be pretty good for bass. i would head to indiana though. that is where i fish 95% one day license is $17. and if you cant find a good lake within 30-40min.(into indiana) from montpelier you might want to visit the eye doc! 12-15 lakes just on the other side of state line. go to lake-links.com good luck and tight lines!
  23. a longer handle will not get you anymore line, just leverage. the line retrieval is all in the gears and speed the handle is turning. the longer the handle the longer it takes for a full rotation of the gear. however a longer handle will give you more control ie...back reeling.
  24. if you put cotton balls or the foam ear plugs in with the weights they wont move around. you can also put them in before or after the weights and it will change the feel to a certain degree and the butt cap stays put better. love the carrots!
  25. if you do a little research, carrot stix are getting cheaper! i definitely recommend them. i have the 7' med/fast with a quantum energy pti20. i also have the 7'3" mh/moderate with a quantum tour pti30. i have used both with great success throwing just about anything except swimbaits!
