  1. He should be. Just because something is flying over your property doesn't give the right to shoot it down. Any difference had it been a hang glider or single engine plane? Probably not the issue where this farmer was, but thought should be given to where that bullet is going fall if it misses the target. Just another dumass with a gun and no head. A property owner does have the right to build a structure that may force an aircraft to avoid it. That structure must conform to local zoning and be of a legitimate use, not for the sole purpose to adversely affect airflight. A 40 story barn sounds good to me.......
  2. I don't think it's gonna "fly", too easy for minors to purchase and get delivery, unless a copy of a driver's license is forwarded via smart phone first. Also stated in the article about Coloradians trying to make it legal to shoot down drones. Would they be willing to pay for the drones and damaged property? I say let the drones shoot back, it's case of self defense.
  3. Of what I fish I for on a regular basis, it's one of the most exciting, the strike is bone jarring at about 30 mph. We specifically target them with our own home made lures, they are not accidental catches, makes it all the more rewarding. We don't catch them everyday, wind has to be right, the right tide, and water clarity. Days can go by without seeing one, they may follow and not strike, they may strike and miss the hook, if hooked you gotta land it, so the catch rate is low. Almost a guarantee I won't catch one today, but I'll be trying.
  4. I did say it was photoshopped. The picture of me was taken about 3 or 4 years ago, the fish I had caught was barracuda, I do remember posting it here. The "new fish" looks to be a good 20#, that fish was really only about 8# and I didn't catch it. If you look closely at the fish's mouth you will see me holding a barracuda tube.
  5. How strong do you need it? PP and most major brands break a good 40-50% higher than the label. If using 20# PP in essence you are fishing with at least 30# line, is that not strong enough for a bass. A knot is the last thing to worry about, tie it correctly use your drag and forget about it. If you are concerned about anything check for weak spots in the line. Mark is right, all hype and totally unneeded.
  6. Starting the morning with a couple of small snook, 25" or so was just fine considering snook are tough to catch now. Minutes before tide change as I see the dirty water staring to flow out the only cuda we saw follows my tube. As a rule followers don't strike, it's the ones you don't see that do, I then make a second toss about 30' in front and game on. Pflueger arbor 50, 14# silver thread on a mh Quantum blue runner.
  7. Update:.........just checked and now BR Emails are being directed to my inbox, go figure.
  8. Me either. I've a flooger 20 I haven't used in more than 5 years (I'll give it away for free). Smallest I use is a Supreme 25, don't care to use anything smaller.
  9. Right Never been cut by braid on cast by stopping it with my hand or finger.
  10. In spinning IPT IMO takes precedence over ratio, but the stated number is on a full spool so less IPT with less line on the spool after a cast. Larger spinning reels generally have a lower ratio and higher IPT, bear in mind these reels are not always used for cast and retrieve of lures. On the smaller spinners, and this how I fish them, my retrieval speed is not robotic. I'm always working the lure and vary the speed, not uncommon to work the lure with an arm sweep then just reel up slack, like a jerkbait. Not much different in inshore fishing as I let the waves do some of the work, with spoons and jigs. I don't often use crankbaits.
  11. My settings have not been changed to my knowledge, but BR emails are now being directed to my spam folder.
  12. Bail may be replaceable, but sometimes a new reel is a nice adrenaline charge. I've got 2 spheros a 4000 and an 8000, one is used just for snakeheads and the other only on drift boats when I can't use braid, real workhorse reels. Just food for thought, in the Shimano line the Sargosa is really nice, much smoother than the Spheros, a little pricier. In lieu of the Sargosa, I bought a Penn Conquer 7000, in hindsight I'm not overly happy with it. Fast forward about 2 years I bought the new Quantum Cabo 40, being about a year old I can honestly evaluate it, just love this reel. It did take several months to break it in, not as smooth as a Shimano but the criteria is a bit different for this kind of fishing. Present mind set, although things change, my next offshore reel will be a Cabo 50 or maybe a 60.
  13. I get to see and use a lot of gear down here, someone always has a new rod or reel, anything from a Loomis to a Calico Jack or Van Staal to a Penn Fierce, personally I would rather handle it than read about it. I see equipment being used for the kind of fish and waters that I'm familiar with and opinions from people I trust, pretty good formula for me. Not saying Tackle Tour doesn't have it's place, but it isn't the same as using it, if I'm going to read a review, it's one by Alan Hawk
  14. This is my opinion..............everyone on Bass Resource must already be a world class fisherman, because so many topics are devoted to gear and not about how to fish. This is not the only fish forum I go, some of the others seem to have far less gear information way more talk about, how to locate fish, techniques, structure (If you think there is no structure to a beach, you never fished one), how to land a fish and nuances of various species. Gear is meaningless if you can't find the fish or entice a strike. What's really more important, Shimano or Pflueger, Loomis or St Croix..................or how to catch them, those are the explanations that will benefit more.
  15. Yep.............. I always use a duolock in freshwater, except for hooks and jigs. I have used them in saltwater, but usually it's bb swivel, leader, then loopknot, fresh knots and leaders for each outing. I do not change lures near as often in the brine, but when I do using 20-40# leaders a loopknot doesn't slow me down too much. Thinner leaders the loop is a little tougher to tie for me.
  16. I've heard tales of snakeheads in Boynton, so far I think they are just stories.
  17. I like the security of pay pal, never even been on Craig List web site. For a few hundred bucks worth of stuff that I didn't want anymore I'd donate it.
  18. She sounds like an immigrant from Arcadia.
  19. For sure..................no regrets.
  20. Teal, don't be misled. Yes this reel has caught a lot of fish, it's strictly a freshwater reel, environment is not harsh.
  21. It just not because I really like the reel, I do.......I like the line capacity 8/140 yd printed on my spool, although the web page says 8/130 yds, I go straight 10# braid without backing which is the way I like it. Repair is only feasible at a local shop without the need of parts or shipping. Parts and shipping may not pay when I believe I can replace it for about 75 bux. I'm going to use it this PM, maybe I'll wack it against a tree a re align it, lol.
  22. You wouldn't be the first. Friend of mine photoshopped this pic, I didn't even catch the fish.
  23. A hook will not dissolve in a few days in salt water. Amazing how many salt water experts never fished in saltwater.
  24. Been using a supreme 30 mg for years with absolute flawess use. After 100's of fish, snagged many many times I finally knocked it out of wack on a snag. The reel is still smooth but it just acquired a bit of geary feeling, usable but unacceptable to me. There is no doubt what I'm replacing the reel with, exactly what I had.
