  1. Nice fish, fun to catch, we get them down here. Ever see leopards rays jump, it's awesome.
  2. I picked up a stradic 4000 fi @ Dicks a few weeks ago for $105, last one they had, I couldn't pass the deal up. I did go in with the intention of buying a penn conquer 4000 for $200, the stradic is a great reel but it for sure is not a conquer, best $200 and under reel I have ever used, I have a 7000.
  3. I wouldn't eat them. My dad was in the fish business and carp were never for sale, we had the best fish available for out own personal table. My grandmother being from the old country loved carp and wanted all we caught when we went fishing. I do remember my dad telling me carp were ok to eat in the spring. Off the top of my head the only freshwater fish I care to eat are trout, Lake Superior whitefish, Lake Erie pickerel( in the states they are called walleyes), lake perch and salmon, I'm sure I left a few out.
  4. Fishing, my Penn Conquer 7000 reel, best I've ever had the pleasure of using. Non fishing, my diet and eating right. Cholesterol 125, BP 130/60, sugar on aver about 105 and I'm a diabetic.......not bad for 66 years old.
  5. I wouldn't have the anti reverse turned off, it's a recipe for some bruised knuckles. The handle can spin pretty fast even with slower swimming fish, I believe a LMB swims about 10-12 mph at full tilt.
  6. I am totally unfamiliar with the procedure that you have to do. I just know business and in business when you " snooze you looze", sorry......yeh looze is not a typo or mistake, lol
  7. I think that amplifies my point. I still wouldn't sit on my *** and wait. It's like fishing with cut bait in the middle of the ocean, you just got wait till that loner swims by. You get bigger fish by trolling and covering more water.
  8. Maybe if you had a 200# goliath grouper on a curado, damage to the reel could quite possibly occur. Having a bass on the line or a fish of similar size, not that much pressure is put on the spool, especially if the drag is set properly. The likelyhood of a bass or similar sized fish reeling off 100yds or so of line and putting maximum pressure on the spool, imo is non existent. This makes the case for taping rather than using a knot, if you happen to catch that large monster that can spool you down all the way, the line just pulls off the reel and does no damage to the reel at all, you have only lost all your line. I tape the majority of time, never have been spooled by a bass, or any inshore fish. I have been spooled offshore in the ocean but it's safe to assume it wasn't a 10# fish.
  9. You may view this as a business appointment but it isn't, it's an interview for a job. While this is important to you, it's obvious that the person in charge doesn't feel quite the same. Any time, but more so when the economy is slow, the ratio of acceptance is very low whether it be a job interview or a business person soliciting new business. At times I probably had 50 no's to 1 yes when I was building mine. Last thing I would do is pay attention to my teacher, most are just not connected to the real world. Don't be patient, that breeds disappointment, get lots of resumes out there and network. In my day we had to "wear out shoe leather", you have the internet, all kinds of forums and many other tools at hand without having to leave home. Be aggressive you will find something.
  10. @ Helluva.............beach fishing has been the poorest I've seen it in years, I'm not doing well myself, most of my snook are from the ICW as of late. ICW fishing for snook resembles LMB fishing very closely, as with all species knowing their characteristics is a big help. I see you are up in Jensen, I see reports of more fish being caught up there than down in my area, I plan my trips on the tide, wind and surf conditions, have yet to have those components conducive to my schedule to make the trek up there.
  11. As far as I'm concerned braided lines need only do 2 things for me, a good strong knot and the ability to handle fish without breaking. Any noise from the line is no issue for me, I really pay no attention. I've purchased only 1 product that I did not care for, that was 5 years ago so I would try it again. As for now I'm pleased with what I'm using, especially if it's on sale.
  12. Once the weather starts cooling down I may try that area, it's only 20 minute ride for me.
  13. Sinkers hitting the rod while casting does not happen very often, even if using a fish finder rig and that's an uncommon bass set up.
  14. That's most likely a Florida boy, cruise ship in the background.
  15. I think it's the design rather than the brand that makes them effective. In freshwater I use nothing but zoom, I use them like a topwater and prefer it to a frog, hook sets better. In salt I have used Zoom and they are excellent, but I like the DOA 5 1/2" for their castabilty, but catch rate is on a par with the Zoom brand.
  16. I always use a swivel and I make sure I have the hook centered, the bait is a little less likely to twist.
  17. Just by viewing a map there is ballfield to the south of the canal with public parking just a short walk. On the south side of the canal heading west that area would be county property and available for fishing. I've never been there in person so I don't know what's it like.
  18. First of all I trust no one or any on line company to back up my data. I always made a point of backing up my system everyday ( when I was in business , going back to my first puter early 90's ). I understand using on line back up if one has a lot of employees, some one will always forget. Once I retired and my recent data is not as important I back up to a cd once a week, in fact i use 2 cds in case 1 is lost or gets corrupted. Good luck in getting your files.
  19. Cute sign and all that, but I want my dealer open, not taking time off especially if I had a serious problem. My dealer opens at 7:30 am, I'd be even happier they opened at 7:00.
  20. Recently in Florida a little girl finds a bird fallen out of it's nest. Takes the injured bird home and the mother is going to care for. Long story short state official hears about the story and makes a visit to the home. Confiscates the bird and leaves a fine in it's place. Sometimes in thinking you may be doing the right thing, it's wrong and can be costly.
  21. It's been a better than average week, 3 cuda 40 inchers and another tarpon, puts my average to 1 fish a day, I'd take that all year long for those species.
  22. If the drag is set near where it should be fish won't break the line unless the line had a nick. We got guys out here catching sailfish on 10# line, I use 20# and they laugh at me for fishing too heavy.
  23. Yellowfin Yachts, the Rolls Royce of offshore fishing boats.
