  1. No the black tip did not jump, was not really a tough fight as compared to some lemon and spinner sharks I have caught even though they were a bit smaller. Time consuming and backbreaking .....yes. Countless number of other fish I would prefer catching, smaller fish, harder fights with shorter duration, kings, cobia, amberjack , sailfish, and on spinning gear.
  2. I would consider a Shimano offshore conventional reel, not low end, but have become cold on their spinning gear. I do enjoy my 6'6 clarus med 6/12 spinning rod, but I am not thrilled with my tallus blue water with a spheros 8000 mounted on it, it now collects dust. For about the same money I have an outfit that totally outclasses it.
  3. If gas is not a necessity I don't know what is. People need it to get to from their work, take their kids to the Dr. etc etc. The food you eat moves on the backs of trucks and the bike you bought didn't peddle itself to the store where you purchased it. True some people don't need gas to fish or can get away using less, now we are talking luxury and not necessity.
  4. I have 3 Star rods, handicraft 7' 25lb class with an Avet mxj on it, love it. I have 2 stellar lites, 7' 20lb class and 25 lb, both spinning. Tips are stiff but I still get very good distance and the reel seats don't seem solid when I have larger fish on, did shim 1 of them up but need some time with it before I decide on success or failure.
  5. I own 6 redbones, I like them. I could make some suggestions to their product line, but the rods themselves are very good. I wish the 7' spinning rods had just a little longer butt and their 10/20 mh spinning rods are rated for only an oz, their are times I want the same rod that goes 1/2 to 2 oz, I bought a Star rod for that usage.
  6. last couple of weeks they running bigger than they are now, saw a guy with 2 over 50# each. We had 3-5 feet today and that is what you want, flatter water is not as good.
  7. Dentist will have the answer. Is a toothache or pain from your gums? Gargleing with warm saltwater can help.
  8. What's hot is kingfish. Been going offshore 2-3 times a week, and it's been very good. Went out this morning for 3 hours, we kept 4 (limit 2 each), released a few and got cut off more times than I can remember. I caught another cobia, a rainbow runner and blue runners that I have never seen so big, great fight. First cast caught decent bass, first in ages, lots of snook too. Still waiting for the big jacks to hit the beach.
  9. Sticking with my out dated Power Pro, I could pick up the Titanic with 20# test, and feel a bluegill whizzing on it.
  10. I see no problem in using a rod whether it's a gift or buying it yourself and returning it after it's been used a few times, I've done it. No reason to lie, only have to say the rod didn't meet my expectation. If I liked the rod I'd keep it, if not get what you want. It's good customer service as well, if a store keeps me happy I'm coming back.
  11. I don't over eat and I eat well balanced diet, nothing " white", sugars, flour, rice, etc. Galvanized steel has a coating of zinc (no longer is any lead added to the process)for rust protection. Is it harmful, the fumes are but if you ate something cooked on it probably not unless you ate the lid too or maybe licked it all day long.
  12. Prices at the pump in many other countries is higher than it is here and many of those countries are trying to do something about it. They may not be able to bring the price down but they are trying to develop alternates. Israel for example has developed a system with some type of apparatus that is installed underneath roads to pull the energy from moving cars, this energy powers homes. The oil companies buy up patents and leave them on the shelf, ones that can produce a 100 or more miles per gallon. What actually is foreign oil? We import most of our oil from Canada, then Mexico, with Saudi Arabia taking up the 3 rd spot. IMO the oil companies may able produce what we need without buying from other countries, don't forget our oil companies sell on the world market too. It is either cheaper to buy it than extract our own or it's a matter of hording and not wanting to ever run out.....I dunno.
  13. True that the Shimano drag of the comparable reel to the Plueger is stronger, but stronger does not mean better. Especially for bass fishing if your drag is set in accordance with your line test then the drags would be set about the same poundage, making it really a moot point. Both reels will perform perfectly.
  14. Yesterday afternoon a movie aired on one of the cable stations title "2012 " with John Cusack, the movie was about this very issue, the end of the world. Won't give the story away as it may air again but the special effects were very cool.
  15. Agree with J.Francho. I am a type 2 diabetic, I may have been predisposed as my dad was a type 1 but my diet played a significant role in my high blood sugar. My costs are a fraction of what Francho's are as I'm on medicare. Meter free, test strips free, medication $6 per month copay and diabetic specialist $30 every 3 months copay, lab bloodwork $10 copay. I'm getting off real easy but younger people don't have that luxury.
  16. No bass fishing but went offshore, fishing was very hot today. Quite a few times I had fish on both rods I had out.
  17. I really didn't see the need to address starvation, AIDS, civil wars genocide or any other problems associated with people living in Africa, the topic is about McDonalds and the ingestion of fast foods. The effects of obesity does affect us all, the diabetic issue is but one aspect. Are you likening yourself to a hippie? Can't really see the association.
  18. What's is messed up is your lack of awareness of how serious obesity can be. Many children, adults as well, are prone to be diabetics if weight is not controlled, not saying that diabetes only affects fat people. The disease itself cannot always be controlled and serious issues can arise, weaken immune system, loss of limbs, organs not performing properly, etc, etc. The economic affect on the healthcare systems may mean higher premiums, if you're employer pays them that may mean higher deductibles. With a higher healthcare cost to one's employer annual salary raises could be affected. Children may suffer social ramifications, as i remember " fat " kids do get picked on and made fun of, now they may nned therapy, another drain on healthcare costs. Be a wise move for people with this nonchalant attitude NOT TO HAVE KIDS OF THEIR OWN !
  19. There are a percentage of people (men, women & children ) that are predisposed to being overweight, yet so many of them pay no attention and just pig out on junk. I do see many of the same "porkers" eating at places like the Golden Coral buffet where the food is pretty good and many healthy choices. Even eating extremely large portions of good healthy food is going to pack on the weight. I don't eat at fast food places more than a few times a year, but I don't blame places like McDonald's, they do offer options to mega calorie meals, but have yet to see a parent taking their child to a salad bar or not ordering the french fries.

I was more of an avid golfer than a fisherman prior to moving to Florida fulltime. When I first got down here I played golf everyday, then did some bass fishing in the afternoon. Took a walk out on the jettie 1 day and saw these guys catching these little 4-5 # Jack crevelles. Next day I bought saltwater combo, caught a few jacks and haven't touched a club since, and reduced my bass fishing to the winter, been 6 years. Have thought about playing golf many times, just haven't as yet, but I want to. I think golf is the greatest game there is.
  21. After I caught my Amberjack couple of weeks ago I did decide to take it easy and fish for snook, go figure I catch a nice tarpon the next day. Went offshore this past Monday ( all rested up) and it was a bad west wind, 1 medium sized bonita until the shark hit, wasn't the plan I don't like shark fishing. Since then I haven't had a strike PERIOD ! (one 6" bass for my first bass outing in a month)........the pendulum swings both ways.
  22. If I were to pick I'd fish the new moon as opposed to the full, but in reality I find it hasn't made a whole of difference. I fish everyday regardless of any lunar influence, tidal ( in or out) influence is a a different ballgame.
  23. Overkill for a 13# fish, especially a freshwater one. Saltwater is no different than freshwater fishing in regards to technique specific equipment. People take many rods to target bass, where the size range is fairly limited, why would a person only take 1 rod for saltwater fishing when there so many species and sizes ranges you can encounter in an outing, not to mention inshore use or offshore use. I would make up my mind what I wanted to use the reel for and buy the appropriate rod, I think that reel could be used for lighter inshore action or heavier offshore that I think you you be better off with a boat rod. If it were me I'd opt for a boat rod 30# class.
  24. If those data numbers are correct it does appear to be warming. I understand the polar caps are melting and glaciers receding, can that happen if the weather is not warming up? .Ghoti, come to Florida, the weather is great, but we could use some rain...
  25. I agree with Grey Wolf 110%, each person should live life as they see fit. I don't see Fish Chris being different than others before him. The list is endless of men and women where fitness has become the focal point of their lives, that's great if it's their choice, it isn't mine. Any smokers ever meet a reformed non smoker and hear them preach, some of the posts on this thread bear a strong resemblance.
