Calico Jack
Best freshwater move I've made in a long long time. Bought a Calico Jack med 8/17, after returning an allstar inshore rod, and I use this rod rod for hi bank canals. Using it probably 90% of the time now for fresh. I think it's big brother , the Hurricane redbone is a better rod, but I do like the fact this rod has a longer butt than the redbone of the same specs. I'm using a Floog Supreme 35, with 10# braid.

Inconsiderate Fisherman
Just forget about it, most boaters don't hang around too long anyway. Getting upset only bothers you, not them.

St Clair Opening Day For C & R
Had our boat on the " Nautical Mile", before we moved to an inland lake. Good times on Lake St Clair.

Pet Peeves
Grimlin, Michigan roads are a cakewalk compared to South Florida. We have 2 and sometimes 3 lanes turning left at intersection, not to mention the oncoming traffic turning left, it's chaos. Especially given the fact that many drivers are aged and many others are from areas where they never drove cars before. I miss driving in Michigan, the traffic flows well and the x-way system is outstanding. Traffic and waiting like forever for red lights to change is my main gripe down here. The lights are not timed with the flow of traffic. In Michigan you can get on 8 mile, go the speed limit and catch nearly every green light, down here a red light occurs about every 1/4 mile in many locations. As I understand it this traffic system was started in Ft Lauderdale in the 60's so people would be stopped often so they could "window shop".

What Knots Do You Use?
Knot failures can and will happen when any knot is tied improperly. Braid to swivel: improved clinch, double wrap. Leader to swivel: clinch, pelagic species improved clinch, single wrap Leader to hook: " " " " " " " Leader to lure: loop knot, double wrap ( if lazy duolock, clinch knot) Joining: bloodknot

Pet Peeves
Equipment failures don't bother me, it happens. Unbuttoned fish don't bother me, I'm there for the fight only, seldom take a photo or measure a fish, so I'll just go and catch another. Boats don't bother me, they generally don't hang around too long and most of those yahoos can't fish anyway, I'm unimpressed with the number of decals on a shirt. What does bother me (only when I'm serious fishing) is people invading my space, that means close to 100yds on either side. I cast parallel to the beach in the trough, not always straight out. Bait fisherman, not the person trophy hunting offshore, I do that myself, but the ones fishing with a piece of frozen shrimp for croackers and sand perch that just seem to be always in the way, then they toss a cast net and spook my snook. A law in Florida of no dogs on most beaches, never enforced and we see lots of them all the time. I love playing with them, it's nice break for me, not worth getting upset. Gotta be careful Fido doesn't want to retrieve your top lure, I hate to hook one, bikinis at 7 am are a nice bonus too.

Worst Thing Your Tackle Can Do !!!
As far as I'm concerned mono is only good for tieing up my tomato & bugenvilla plants, I think 30# braid is even better for that. My only negative to braid is offshore trolling with spoons, the line twist created will not troll out like with mono. The few times a year I go on a drift boat I use mono ( Shakespere supreme, $4.00 for 300 yds)as many tangles with other lines occur and we are always cutting line. I also do not take my best equipment with me either. I'm not fussy about the braid brand, it's all pretty much the same for me, I'm using, many years old, 30# Gorilla braid on my shark spinning outfit.

Line Dilemma
Line probably will be fine,I have mono spooled unused for a year or more with no ill affects. If I were overly concerned I would pour some hot water on it or better yet soak the spool. Cheap fix that works.

Tip Heavy Rods
Tip balance will vary when using baits of different weights. Very normal for me to use a light weight xrap, then switch over to a 3/4oz spoon, then again to a cuda tube weighing well over an ounce. For me rod balance is a meaningless exercise.

Bass Pro Shops & Sales Tax?
Kind of a follow up to what Lund said about lost revenue. On Good Friday CNBC ran some financial documentaries, as it normal does on Holiday days. One program dealt with lost federal revenue dealing with IRS fraud, uncollected back taxes and penalties, and businesses that operate in the grey area. According to the reporter, there would not be a federal deficit if these obligations were satisfied, hard to believe but maybe so. Even if a fraction of funds were collected, the state of affairs would be in a bit better shape.

Biggest Fish/bass Caught On 6# Line Or Less
Not 6# but 10# mono caught on a freshwater spinning rod & reel. The fish was weighed as it was sold to a chef in Key West, 1975 It's a Cobia There are other memorable catches on light tackle, but those pics have never been scanned.

Easter Tablefare
It's highly doubtful Christ ever ate rabbit, as rabbit is not a kosher food and many people feel Christ was a vegetarian. Anti Christ....looks like it.

Bass Pro Shops & Sales Tax?
The proposals I have heard have a vat tax at 23% in lieu of the federal income tax, state & city sales tax are separate issues. I don't think it will ever happen, to mention the reasons why would be political. There already is a huge underground economy based on " black market" and cash businesses.

Rod Tip Ceramic Insert Popped Out :(
Rod tips are inexpensive, I'd just put a new one on. I have had an issue with only 1 guide from a rod of med to good quality only cheap rods that use cheap guides. It's not the rod being defective but the component being used The guides that I have had an insert come loose I just super glue it, worked good enough.

Giant Goldfish
The hook seems to be embedded on the back not in the mouth, even though there is a bobber. Was this fish foul hooked or a staged event? It's a pretty fish just the same.

Saltwater Lures For Bass?
I use fresh in salt and salt in fresh almost on a daily basis, fish are fish, it makes no difference to them. Some SW lures are made more durable, not all, some have SW hooks or better hooks, not all, some are larger, not all. A multitude of colors is to hook you, not the fish. A very popular SW color is white with red trim, I've used this color combo for bass umpteen hundreds of times, works as well as any other color combo. The aforementioned redfish magic is nothing but a spinnerbait with a soft plastic bait, a freshwater spinnerbait will work fine too. Soft plastics like Zoom flukes( for bass) work real good for SW fish. I have used mirror lure and DOA soft baits made for SW for bass, they work as well as Zooms. I don't own a freshwater jig, I use SW bucktails, bass love em. Many people use crappie jigs for lookdowns, pompano, spanish mackeral and snook will hit them too. My arsenal for fresh and salt consists of a spoon, hard jerkbait. soft jerkbait, jig and top popper.......have no need for much more. IMO just about every artificial lure can be used anywhere.

Weight Of Lures?
Not sure about lures but I do weigh my spoons and many are not the same as the weight on the package. The only concern about lures for me is the depth it's running, so weight is of no importance to me, spoons are different and the weight does affect how it rides in the water, or bouncing on top. We are going to get comments about lure weight vs lure rating on the rod, I pay very little attention to this, constantly using heavier lures with no ill affects to the equipment with years of use.

Vicious At Walmart
I agree with Catt, fish don't care. One of my favorite lures for bass and snook is the Walmart renegade, was $1.85, I don't see them around anymore. Caught several thousand pounds of fish on them.

Return My Vendetta And Replace With What?
Bass Thump explained it well, shorter rods do have more leverage but that is applicable only to your target species and where you are fishing. I don't want to get into a explanation of saltwater equipment only to say that inshore saltwater fishing, via boat or bank is very similar to freshwater fishing, offshore different rules apply.

South Florida
Friday East winds 12 to 15 knots. Seas 2 to 4 feet. Dominant period 5 seconds. Intracoastal waters a moderate chop. I think that is a tame forecast based on what I saw today and the Boynton inlet was vicious, Boca gets that way too. If you do get out the cobes are in 80' and less, kings 80-120', but I'm not familiar with the reef structure in that area. I did get 2 snook this morning, 1 on a bucktail and a slob on a spoon. I couldn't pull it into the beach, had to wade out to release the hook........big lady.

Bass Pro Shops & Sales Tax?
If I wanted an item that was exclusive to a company like BPS, the additional cost in sales tax would not be a deterrent.

Redfish Magic
Any saltwater bait will work on freshwater fish and the same can be said in reverse. When I buy lures I make no distinction where I'm going to use them. Fish are fish!

Pflueger President Help
If the supreme handle fits and I think it will it's an excellent idea. I replaced my soron 20 handle with a soron 40 handle, also from Pure Fishing, and the cost was only $10.00
