I've only used the Penn once, but so far I really like it. Had a big king on while using it but got cut-off,,,,,,,,that's king fishing. Anything can change but right now there are only 3 spinning reels I would use off shore, Soron, Conquer & Cabo(or Boca), my latest cobia was caught using my Soron 60.

I always use a duolock for my freshwater fishing and just some of the time for my saltwater, I see no reason to remove the split ring, I may even add one to my spoons that don't come with one. Use the right size duolock and replace them after a few outings. I have had only 1 duolock open up in years of using them and this was due to not replacing soon enough, this happen in saltwater. When I forego the snap a double wrapped loopknot is the only knot I use.

I don't know about that rod but this is how I buy rods. I go to a big box store and buy, then use it for a few outings and return it if I don't like the rod, no questions asked. I did this quite a few times this year. Several weeks ago I buy rod x, use it for almost 2 weeks, then return it. I then decide I want rod x, go back and only the rod I returned is in stock with no wrapper or price tag. I tell the cashier it's used rod and they give me 15% off. Not having another rod in stock the bar code was not available so the 15% off was based on a cheaper rod as it was the closest match. I like to let the system work for me.

I gave the fish to my fishing partner, alond with a couple of yellowtail.........taking my wife out for a corned beef sandwich.....lol

As a young kid back in Michigan we almost exclusively fished for bass using live nightcrawlers, red and leaf worms, caught plenty of quality fish. Maybe the old guys will remember this, buy a dozen minnows and they net and gave ya 3 dozen for the price of 1, now they count them out.

Cobia give a good accounting of themselves, a formidable opponent. Most of the fish out here caught on med spinning gear are lots of fun, but sometimes I need to go to a conventional rig, been spooled 3 times in the last month or so on spinning, you never know what is going to be on the end of the hook.

Offshore today, caught some nice kings and this Cobia. 7'Star stellar lite 25lb, SORON 60, reel 20# braid.

Firefox 4 is working well for me, now that I have it customized the way I like it. I was having trouble playing videos with Google Chrome.

Most of my quality fish have never been weighed, best guess for a LMB 10-12lb, top popper. Spinning gear: Snook.........36#,Doa jerk shad Sailfish......83#,Drone spoon Cobia.........61#,cobiaball( jig) tipped with squid Conventional gear: Amberjack.........260kg Red Snapper........88kg Bull Dolphin.......120kg Above caught on same charter P.V. Mexico, bait but can't recall what kind.

Making a million dollars isn't really a big deal, I'm sure thousands of BR members have done it, it's only 50k a year for 20 years. Having a million bucks is different story, kinda tough to do that on only 3-$400 a day, gross income.

Nearly every spinning reel out there is fairly decent these days, from a $39 trion up to top of the line Daiwas, Shimanos, Abus and Quantums plus so many more. It almost makes no difference what you buy, it will get the job done. It's all trial and error, my favorite may not be yours.

I'll stick with the ones for a buck, have caught plenty of fish on them and after a couple of seasons they still function perfectly.

Quantum Cabo 30, don't know if it's my workhorse but with out a doubt my most under rated reel. Handles fish much better than my soron 40's and my 4000 stradic, all have similar drag specs, handled 20# bonito & tuna today.

People hear the word muskie and they freak out, you don't need all that much to catch them. Mh spinning rod with a 4000 reel, 20# line and 40# leader( wire is better) is plenty of firepower., standard cuda equipment. We were using the above equipment to catch blackfin tuna, bonita and dolphin today, they are more to handle than cudas.

The E-3 canal runs behind my home, I've caught a lot of large bass there this year, but no more. The water level has dropped and IMO the bass are seeking deeper water, they're gone. I was as hot as could be there and as of 3-4 weeks ago it stopped, haven't been bass fishing in about 2 weeks now. My fishing interest has turned elsewhere, bait is everywhere and a lot of really nice fish are being caught.

I get mine off Ebay too, they can be "Copies", work just as well. I use 1/2" for freshwater and 1" for saltwater, I did have one come apart recently but I attribute that a duolock that was just worn out.

There are a number of U.S. Embssys, American business people, press and travelers through out the entire mid east and Africa. By not adhering to Islam law the possibility of reprisal is heightened, now they want revenge. I happen to have a sister and niece traveling NOW and this concerns me greatly. To paraphrase what Sec. of State Clinton said, The best policy is diplomacy and supporting the creation of democracies through out the region, democracy is the best weapon against terrorism. I don't know about anyone else........BUT I'M GOING FISHING!

If he was taken alive there would have to be a trial or a tribunal. Now that begins a debate with another country as to who has judical jurisdiction. If a trial took place in Pakistan an acquittal could have been a possibility. The operation and burial were planned perfectly, from months of secrecy thru the final outcome. I don't think all the televised backslapping and claiming victory is good ( however well deserved and I feel as good about as the next person),but believe it does create more potential for reprisals. The awareness has been heightened through out the world as I hear it.

I think there is much more to this burial than this simple explanation. Islamic law & Jewish law do require a burial within 24 hours,short extensions are allowed in case of travel of immediate family. Also a burial cannot take place on the Sabbath, Friday for Moslems and Saturday for people of Jewish faith.

I would not belittle someone else's equipment, people use what they can afford or are comfortable with. Memory and line twist are 2 different issues. Memory is an easy problem to solve using the warm water method, some guys just stick the spool in a bucket of freshwater. Swivels help for sure, but a quality ball bearing swivel is even better but it is not a cure all, twist still can happen. Line twist on braid is very common with spinning gear or conventional gear, however most people here don't fish with lures or techniques that will cause it. I have braid twist on a number of reels, either from offshore drift fishing where cut or live bait is always revolving or when trolling or casting certain lures that revolve a lot, like spoons and surgical tubes.

Squeeze the gap shut with a heavy pliers, I do this all time with my 12/0 limerick hooks, problem solved in a matter of seconds, if in fact the gap is your problem. I don't use anything heavier than 20# braid and that has solved it for me.
