  1. I use nothing but 20# braid on my offshore spinning gear and it holds like steel cable, hopefully you have packed on 2-300 yds of line cause you'll need it, I've been spooled 3 times so far this year. The only negative on braid is the line twist I get from trolling and drifting certain baits that twirl too much, bb swivels have not really solved that problem. The only braid that I have found that I can troll out a little bit ( far from perfect) is Fins. Beautiful fish Chris !
  2. For the most part I'm leery of any review, especially bias towards any certain brand. I like to think I have enough experience to know what I want, not that I have never made a mistake, I have. If possible I want to see someone using equipment, then try it it myself if they let me. A few weeks ago a guy I see at the jetty all the time was using a loomis rod and calcutta reel, so I tossed it around for a half hour and I liked it very much, something I would buy if I were a B/C kinda guy, which I'm not, but the outfit was super.
  3. For me it's the rod for freshwater, doesn't mean that it's super expensive just of more importance. Saltwater it's the reel that is more important to me, as long as the rod has adequate backbone I'm ok.
  4. One feature on a spinning reel that's important to me is the size and comfort of the handle, for me it's Pflueger supreme. I do not like a dinky little handle on many 2000 series reels.
  5. Since this morning I have been getting an error message only on the General Bass fishing module "An error occured with the SQL server:" I can only access the individual forums via the drop down menu.
  6. We have dogs running on the most of the beaches at dawn in South Florida, not only leashless but it's a $500 fine ( I think) for dogs to be there in the first place. The police say nothing, most of the dogs are having fun are not and causing any problems, I like playing with the dogs while I'm fishing. I did have a dog keep swimming out to my top lure wanting to retrieve it, I was just worried the dog would get hurt.
  7. Only Quantum I own is a Cabo 30, it stands up to any reel in it's price range. For me the only shortcoming is a small capacity spool, in hindsight the Cabo 40 would have been better for me.
  8. I tried a variation of jigging this weekend, I was using deep water sling jigs, butterfly and diamond jigs. You gotta be young with a strong back, just wore me out, but it's very productive, we caught some aj's & kings.
  9. I think people get confused thinking only tourney fisherman are professionals, guides and charter boat Captains are too. Personally I don't see the need for the recreational fisherman spending more on equipment that's needed. I spend about only $200 or so for a freshwater combo, more for saltwater but the elements and physical nature of the the fish demand a better quality.
  10. Over reaction ! I would have found it humorous and probably forgotten about it 10 minutes later. True the dog should have been on a leash and getting the hook away from the dog was good, but I would not manhandle someone else's dog. It was only a 2lb fish, had you just released it the incident would not have happened and the fish would have lived.
  11. I haven't seen any new channels on my comcast, but no complaints with them, more HD wold be nice.
  12. I applaud BR for trying to improve the site, but I don't care for it. Hard to read, doesn't navigate as easily as before, the old look imo was far superior, especially in being user friendly. To be honest it has made me lose interest in being an active participant.
  13. Have no idea of how to change my " member title " on my profile. I won't be critical as I'm sure many like the change, but for me I'll reduce my status to an occasional viewer and non poster.
  14. Voting up or down ?...........Too techie for me, liked the way it was
  15. Fast reply ? I'm not crazy for this new format.
  16. Trying to figure this out...........Piece of cake !
  17. Mine does not work with Goggle Chrome, finds errors but won't correct.
  18. Reels are never off rods and all get fished 12 months of the year. Rods hang from hooks ( very similar to that Pirahna rack which I really like). Freshwater reels never get rinsed and never serviced, all perform like new. Saltwater reels usually gets hosed down after each outing. Lures and terminal tackle for freshwater are a mess on a rack in my garage but I know where every thing is so no problem, all inshore saltwater tackle is in the trunk of my car, my most used stuff.
  19. For a hundred bucks or less for freshwater the Supreme gets my vote. I like the weight, smoothness and one of the better handles for a small reel.
  20. Use a swivel with about a 15" leader, knot of your choice, I use a modifed improved clinch.
  21. IMO perfect balance can only be obtained once you have the lure on, change the lure and now the balance is different. The majority of my fishing is done with 1 rod and a few lures, spoons or feathers, most of which are different weights, I really am not paying all that much attention to it.
  22. There may be some validity to barometric pressure, weather conditions, water temps and everything else that people use an excuse for not catching fish. I use a simple rule, they are either on or off, when on they hit anything and when off they hit nothing. Some of the best fish of my life have been when I wasn't supposed to catch them, every negative condition against me.
  23. Thanks RW......fishing balances out, last 2 outings maybe 6 bass about 8 or 10 inches and strikless in saltwater.
