  1. A surprise, yes, but not totally unexpected, I know this is the time of year for them. I was hopeful and prayed a bit..........lol. We have caught them on frozen sardine before, also can get them trolling but the preferred method by charter boats is live bait under a kite. I had a big strike on a spoon while trolling but never saw the fish, may have been a wahoo. When I go offshore I checkout a few forums and websites to see what's going on.
  2. Is Braid a must????? It is for me !
  3. you wanna compete with this? That's a minnow or a bass? Haha Get a weight on that fish?
  4. Went out in the ocean this morning, beautiful day with too calm of seas. Had a west wind so we knew that bite would be slow and it was. Caught a small blue runner so I put in my Avet trying to get a spinner shark, no luck. I baited up a dead sardine and I was letting my line out by hand, maybe 30 or 40yds out I get a hit, felt like a king bite. Take the reel out of free spool and now the drag is smoking and the rod is bending. After while I get the fish boatside and to my surprise I see a huge dorsal fin, a Sailfish ! My partner grabs the leader that was tangled with several other lines, as he was pulling the leader the sail starts a run(an experienced mate would have boated that fish for sure)..........boom fish off, but a nice thrill. Fish appeared to be 5-6' in length, a good size sailfish.
  5. You really don't want to that ! The standard supreme is an excellent reel, I have 3, but what I like even better is my Soron 20 using a Soron 40 handle ( $10 part).
  6. I have been using my 7' 8/17 bone( my small saltwater setup) for freshwater high banked canal use and it's great for that. Now I'm looking to replace a freshwater rod I really dislike for the very same use. I have a 8' Tsunami airwave inshore that I love, they make 7 footers in both 8/17 and 10/20. I have casted both and seen fish up 25# ( jacks) caught on these 7' from piers no less. Extremely light with great distance and backbone, I'm going to ordering a 8/17 for bass use. I looked at an All Star ASR yesterday and didn't care for it.
  7. I jumped in and then out again. had an Htc Incredible for 3 weeks, then a Samsung reality for 3 hours, returned them. Both phones had poor earpiece clarity, a few other things bothered me as well. Went back to my flip phone and the earpiece clarity is excellent. All that said I may go back and try another one soon.
  8. he was a member of the New Christy Minstrel before First Edition
  9. Not for me. I like clothes and I don't want to have them custom made. If I were to pick a physique it might be a guy like Greg Norman, clothes just hang perfect on him. At my age all I'm really interested in is keeping fit, vital statistics in accepted normal range, staying agile, limber and maintaining my 130-135#. Most of all my wife likes me this way.
  10. I would suggest a hardhat. A few weeks ago I'm tossing a barracuda tube off the jetty. This Chinese lady was fishing there and came up behind me and I didn't see her, a few minutes later I was picking a 12/0 limerick hook out of her skull. She had a band aid with her her so I assumed this was a normal occurrence for her.
  11. If I had a freshwater boat there is no doubt in my mind I would kill them out there, but I can't store one where I live. I'm in a partnership with 2 other guys, we rent for offshore, 24' Everglades $4200 dn, $100 a month for life or until they go out of business lol, total cost. No insurance, no marina charges, no hurricane storage, just gas and go, they clean the boat too. My guys just like to drift for offshore pelagic so I'm keeping my eyes open for 17 or 19' skiff just for casting in the ICW, several very reasonably priced marinas in the area for a small boat like that.
  12. For freshwater use and a price range around $100, the Supreme is an excellent choice. I have 3 of them, 1 was used for saltwater for more than a year, without issue, before moving it to freshwater. As this is my Bass season, I have been fishing bass on my way home form the ocean every morning and using my small saltwater set up. Abu Soron 20, I prefer it over the Supreme and it isn't much more.
  13. I haven't caught a Peacock in the Delray area in a year. One of my friends says he caught one last week in a Boynton canal.
  14. Sounds GREAT. I only caught 22 fish in that weight range all last season, fishing nearly every day between end of March to end of November... ;D All about location, if a 1 technique fisherman like me can catch them here anyone can. It's where you're at my friend.
  15. A pop and a second or so pause, I don't much care for walking the dog. I went to a different canal this morning, this canal is n/g for topwater, don't know why. Wasn't as hot at yesterday but caught about 4 in an hour, pretty decent, 1 went about 2 lengths of a size 8 shoe. Ocean stunk today, 1 tiny jack so I left and went bass fishing.
  16. I hold my spinning outfits different than most people, I have small hands and grip the rod just in front of the reel with my pinky touching the reel. I like to be ready for a bigger strike and already have my leverage. I don't notice my outfits not being balance, except 1 and that one has a heavy reel but after a few minutes I'm used to it, so not a big deal for me.
  17. Had an early appointment so the ocean was out for me yesterday morning. On the way to the Dr's office I stopped at a canal that I haven't been to for at least 6 months, even though it's less than 10 minutes from where I live, almost always produces. Hit the canal right at sunrise, the moon, the stars, the barometer and even my horoscope was lined up, lol. Within 45 min to an hour maybe 10 bass caught all about 3-6# and I fished nothing but a top water plug. Being in the right place at the right time outweighs any lack of skill I have.

I don't care for those 1 cup machines. My son in law uses a Jura ($2000 ) 1 cup machine with Jamica Blue Mnt. beans, I much prefer my ho hum Cuisnart and Costco's store barnd 3# for $9.95. The best coffee machine and coffee I ever used was a 4 cup Sunbeam ( very slow brew) and ground my A & P Bokar blend.
  19. As far as I'm concerned predatory fish are pretty much the same where ever they happen to be, of course there are always subtle nuances that vary from species to species. I don't watch fishing shows on tv, nor do I know or fish with any bass fisherman other than myself, I'm not the most knowlegeable on baits and techniques. I employ the identical baits and techniques that I use in saltwater to catch bass. I use spoons a great deal and most would never use one at night, I do all the time and it works exceptionally well. I like keeping my fishing real simple.
  20. Almost like getting a free rod, I think the list price of a supreme xt ( old model) is around that price. I don't drop shot but I have 3 supremes that have served me very well, not a bit of problem even with the one I used in saltwater.
  21. If my equipment is in good working condition then not much bothers me. If I use equipment that I don't really like, I just don't use it anymore. Line on hook keepers, if problem arises too often I take them off, don't use them anyway. Braid around the tip, no problem, I always let the line drop a little bit before I cast to make sure it's flowing right, if it's wrapped a quick easy fix. I prefer to concentrate on the positive, not the negative, I like all my equipment, some more than others and that's what I use most of the time.
  22. HAHA ! I had a first today, after a real slow start I manged 3 snook, one close to slot. Ten minutes or so after sun up I was casting for small jacks on light tackle, then I get hit by a tarpon, my first ever on a spoon, small guy maybe 6 lbs with all the acrobatic moves.
  23. I only carry 1 or 2 spinnerbaits at a time, I just hang them from my belt loop. I like doing things simple and it works good for me.
  24. I don't eat any fast food, my wife won't let me ;D. Cholesterol 157 triglycerides 81, blood pressure 120/70, weight near perfect, at 65 years old. d**n I miss a big mac and fries, I'd commit murder for a slice of Buddy's Pizza deep dish ( Detroit ).
  25. Whatever the conditions call for, that's my favorite. Just like hitting a golf ball, into the wind I keep it low and under the breeze, with the wind I cast it high and let it fly. Recently I was informed that there is a saltwater cast and a freshwater cast, I never knew this before. It was brought to my attention that I am a freshwater caster, and I get a little less distance.
