Fuji E-Z Keepers
I've never used a hook keeper( on rare occasion I use the the one on the rod), the guide works fine for me, I don't really see the point to using them, can't remember any problems not using one.

An old favorite thread topic....Gas Prices.
The primary issue is not who we owe but demand, China is adding millions of cars along with their growing middle class. I'll stop with oil, that's what the thread is about, but just about every commodities affected on the world market. As Americans we feel the world revolves around us, it doesn't anymore, there are other players.

An old favorite thread topic....Gas Prices.
I hope it doesn't reach $5 a gal. but my guess is that it will or get very close. Oil is a commodity like any other, they rise and fall with many variables attached to them, demand, politics, labor and in the case of gas maybe higher taxes always possible, changes in the value of the dollar. Being in the commodities business ( basically that's what the scrap metal biz is) I would never have thought copper would be over $4.00lb, 2 years ago it was around 2, steel over $400 a ton, 2 years ago it was around $800 and when I retired 7 years ago it was $150. I've seen gold go to 800 and back down to 4 or so, silver in 1 month from 15 to 49 and back down to about 20, all in a 30 day span (1979 or thereabouts). One word has more impact than anything else...........CHINA ! Gas at $5.00..........I would not bet against it.

Golf course
I've been spending time fishing brackish canals, never know what's there, in the past I've caught LMB, peacocks, snook ( no tarpon yet, but they are there) and caught a jack today, tons of mullet stacked up. On my way home I discover an abandoned golf course, I'm sure homes to follow, and casted for about a half hour without a strike, I was really surprised as I've been catching bass everyday. Maybe just this cold front coming thru as most of my bass this year have been in the PM, I will definitely be back at this spot.

bass pro/sales tax
True, in New York a resident is required to pay sales tax on line purchases, but there are exceptions ( maybe medications), fishing tackle certainly isn't one of them. I would think that one would not pay an additional amount on sales tax already paid, one may qualify for a tax deduction on certain purchases. Your CPA or tax preparer would know for sure, so not including sales tax paid may not be in ones benefit. Lund Explorer would know this. A CPA or tax preparer can only prepare a return on the information given

Foregrip Question
The rod manufacturers know what they are doing, it's about the fish you are catching. Bass are not an overly powerful or make long runs has other fish do, with ocean fish the longer foregrip is very helpful in gaining leverage. Not long ago I saw Bill Dance fishing redfish with Blair Wiggins, using Capt. Wiggins redfish spinning gear and handling the fish quite nicely. Wiggins says to Bill, " use your bass outfit", so Bill Dance hooks up on a redfish using his b/c rod and reel. In order for Dance to get that fish in he has to hold the rod about 8-12" up on the shaft to get that needed leverage to land the fish, I'd say Bill Dance knows what he is doing too. I would never own a rod without an ample foregrip, spinning or conventional.

An old favorite thread topic....Gas Prices.
$3.19 on average here, when I stated driving gas was .12 9/10 for regular. The major difference in prices from state to state and country to country are taxes, it cost pretty much the same to get it our of the ground and refine it. Hofmeister said gas will be $5.00 in 2012. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/12/29/earlyshow/main7194381.shtml

This reel will top the chart this year...
Including a Stella & Steez ( but they do have more fun, dont' they?), and as P.T. Barnum said " there is a sucker born every minute" I bet they don't sell more than 100 in the entire country.

Best fisherman on this site....?
Impossible to say, not everyone posts about their catch, weighs them or even photographs.

Abu Garcia Soron STX Handles
Yep, been doing it for years. The soron 40 handle will fit perfectly on the 20 reel, cost $10.00. Best thing I ever did, I feel it has elevated the performance of the reel.

How do you treat your combos?
My freshwater gear looks and performs like new, as a bank fisherman the rod and real only get placed on the grass, no damage done and haven't even washed down or oiled in the longest time. Saltwater is whole different ballgame, the reels do need some sensible care and maintenance. Worst enemy is sand off the beach, I often use towels or just hold the rod with my teeth while unhooking. The conditions dictate what I take with me me, some reels seem to be sand magnets or don't perform as well in wind.

Gotta love florida
Many great fishing venues in this country other than Florida. What I love about Florida is fishing 12 months of the year, great saltwater both inshore and offshore, plus excellent bass fishing. Most days both salt and fresh can be done as I do. South Florida is the new " north", suits me.

Sunglasses
Polarized sunglasses simply have a chemical coating on the lenses, have nothing to do with the prescription of the lens. The polarized coating on a pair of scripts is probably no different than the coating on a store bought pair, there are regulations that are supposed to be met.

I thought I would "Shake" things up!!!
Sun is actually stronger in winter than the summer. I when I fish I use mine for insect protection and they were out yesterday. Buzz Off Clothing

Why braid?
Braid excels in open water for fish that make super long runs where both strength and line capacity are needed, also why I prefer not use any backing.

About my new Shimano.... hmmmm....
Bilge is right about the supreme, maybe the best out there under a $100, I have 3 and used one of them over a year in saltwater for snook and small tarpon. Being an avid abu man and loving my 4 sorons, my next may be the patriarch. Any shimano priced under a stradic is not even a remote consideration.

Holding bass the wrong way
If I were overly concerned about a fish's welfare I wouldn't be fishing in the first place. I can't believe that any fish does not feel the hook, or pressure on the jaw while being horsed into a boat or dragged on shore. As Chris says, " it's only a fish", and I'm not overly concerned. Fish bought at the market commercially caught are handled rough, yet we buy them for consumption and never give it a thought.

PETA at it again!!
I don't see any connection between a " hippies " and P.E.T.A , I have no love of P.E.TA. but no hate hate either, I view them as any other extreme group, even ones with an opposing agenda.

We have reason to believe there are terrorists in your lake. We're gonna have to".... "I'll cut your lawn for a whole year if you let me fish here" "I'll fix your refrigerator" :D Say you're there to checkout the snakehead population

Caution! Craigslist buyers
I've replaced many engines, never once was additional paperwork have to filed with any state agency, maybe Massachusetts is different than Michigan.

Tom, you're right about the value of the motor compared to the boat but I think understand the reasoning. An outboard is not part of the boat, it can be swapped for another at any given time. Not all boats even require a motor, many are rowed, so I think this is a blanket requirement that covers all watercraft. Do you have a separate title for the engine in you car? True you car can't move on it's power without one, but again a different engine can be put in.
