  1. I'll take a quality fish whenever it comes.
  2. My guess is a poorly tied knot.....it happens. If I remember my freshwater fishing correctly the teeth on a pike have some spacing between them, not like a mackerel which has shorter sharp teeth all right next to each other and cut offs are common even with braid. I don't often use a palomar knot, it's a good one, I use an ordinary clinch knot and singe the tag end putting a little nib on it, this reduces the chance of pull thrus.
  3. I wear flips ups as I wear eyeglasses, Cocoons do a great job, as well any prescription polarized I've owned.
  4. Yep, I use them all the time. Good lure and runs a bit deeper than an xrap. I use the small sizes for bass and larger ones for snook and tarpon. Most places sell them for 10 bux, I get mine at Walmart for 6.99.
  5. I bought a tierra 3000 couple of months ago and the reel performed just fine handling fish up to about 10#. Last week I hook and landed a cuda about 42", maybe 20# or so and this fish was a screamer. Didn't catch anything else that day and I put the outfit down for a few days. Took it yesterday and now my drag is very herky jerky and not smooth as it once was, hopefully it will be repaired under warranty. I have caught many fish of the same size using comparable reels of other brands and never ran in to this problem before. IMO this reel isn't even close to a ABU soron or stradic.
  6. I use painters masking tape and never tie, never had braid slip. The reason I tie is dependent on my quarry and location I fish. Last week for example I hooked a boat speeding out of the inlet cutting a bit too close to the jettie, it happens. I lost all my braid and my lure to boot but no damage done. I have seen the same scenario where reels have been busted off the rod or just done damage to either rod or reel. We have fish out here that can do the same thing. I don't think it makes much difference how a reel is spooled fishing an inland lake.
  7. Your house isn't worth anything until you sell it. Am I wrong? You are absolutely correct! However the home has a loan value based on comparable properties that have been sold in the area. The appraisal does not mean your home is worth x amount of dollars, it only means how much money the bank is willing to lend, generally LTV ( loan to value) is 80%,which avoids paying mortgage insurance. In defense of Catt, there is a good feeling of security being debt free with a paid off home. But for me being a business person I wanted my cash for investments and to buy other businesses ( financing is not 100% ). I used my credit to buy equipment needed to run my operation, in my case a scrap yard which requires lots of equipment.
  8. Tyrius is right on the money and well said, articulated the point much better than I did. The funds are not liquid and if there is a major emergency or wanting to start a business venture or whatever the need, where does the money come from? A mortgage...that's a loan , putting yourself in the same position that you are against. Without a good credit score one may not be able to qualfy in times of tight money, especially if ones working days are over and have a smaller income. Withdraw a major portion from your investment net egg, now you are house poor, with much less cash on hand. Another option is to sell your home, in many regions of the country this is not an easy task and takes time. Also in most areas the market value has suffered, so a home once believed to worth 500k may be worth much less. A fico score does not represent debt, it represents your payment history and how much credit is available to you. All things being equal a person that owes a 100k has no different a fico score than a person that has 100k debt free, assets don't matter. Used wisely and to further a career credit is your friend, not your enemy.
  9. I fish every day 12 months of the year and I do not buy all that much. I do not lose too many freshwater water lures and bags of flukes and hooks are fairly cheap. Saltwater is another story, always losing something but I manly use spoons, jigs and soft baits which are reasonably priced.
  10. Whether it's Dave Ramsey, Suzy Ormond or any other Guru they offer pretty much common sense, but give valuable information on changes in the investment & credit world that the average layman may not know or have the resources to find out. In the case at hand, dental school costs then getting established in business requires a good deal of money. Unless you have some pretty rich parents to foot the bill this endeavor requires credit and that starts with a credit card for a young person and build from there. Some of this debt free advice may work well for people that have jobs with pretty much fixed incomes to live with in their means, but for people seeking to be in business credit is essential. As mentioned many times already, credit cards are interest free money if paid in full on time, and there are some good reward programs as well. Even some cards with an annual fee are ok, like Spirit Airlines offering $9.00 flights if you have one of their cards, which I have used and was worth the fee.
  11. I doubt the police would get involved unless it's a small town. Small claims court for non performance is out as you gone in five days, so best course of action is an attorney's letter. Most of the time people get intimidated from " official" looking letters and respond. Is the value of your property worth the expense?
  12. I wear Buzz off clothing, expensive but works very well.
  13. Knowledge is power !! I think this holds true more today than ever, the chances of success without that education dwindle year by year. People that lack the motivation to gain the extra education, generally don't have the motivation it takes to make without those degrees either, there are always exceptions to that rule. The world is changing, education is a must today.
  14. I can't give a definitive answer but I would say no. Last year my wife and I were at the airport and Spirit airlines had a kiosk signing people up for their credit card offering a free flight, so we each applied. Both of us have fico scores over 800, but just about every credit card is in my name with my wife being the secondary user. I was accepted but my wife was rejected and the reason given was little or no established credit in her name only. Didn't settle to well with me as we are an established "partnership" with a longterm excellent standing. Knowing that I may not live forever I had my wife apply for other credit cards and glad to say she was accepted. I make sure she uses each of them on a regular basis. One of the cards was a Southwest Airlines Visa, she as primary me as secondary and we use this card most of the time now, within 6 months we have been awarded 1 free flight ticket already and close to getting another. If I'm not mistaken credit was tighter last year.
  15. Big difference between fishing for serious money ( now we are talking the business of making a living ) vs recreational fishing. I'd be disappointed in losing a good fish if my living depended on it, as in any business deal, but as a recreational fisherman I don't get worked up over losing one for any reason. I have to say that I really have no idea of big fish are that were never landed, the fight can be deceiving so to say I lost some kind of record or persoanal guess would probably be an inflated guesstimate.
  16. They are good pilers but not for me, too slippery, I prefer ones that have a rubberized handles. The important factor in cutting braid is having the piers clean with no sand or even fish scales so you can make a clean cut. I have been using BPS piers for 9.95 with sheath and lanyard, does a good job, only drawback is center blades not side cutters. I frequently clean them with a toothbrush, cuts 10-15 and 20# braid just fine.
  17. Why does braid need to stay dark? It doesn't.......I don't have enough spare time to color it, I'd rather be fishing.
  18. Building wealth and using credit wisely can go hand in hand, having credit be available does not mean it has to be used. The pros that have been mentioned already far outweigh the cons. I've been retired nearly 10 years and could not have done it without using credit to build my businesses which allowed me to build wealth.
  19. I prefer the spiny over Maine lobster, especially Pacific.
  20. My measurement is in fun not size, being in Florida catching something over dink status is common. To be honest I think the smaller ones oz for oz give a better account of themselves than the larger ones, I just use light tackle and enjoy.
  21. I don't care for that style of fishing but on the rare occasion that I use them success is almost guaranteed, sizable fish as well.
  22. I've seen the lobster boats going out the inlet for the last 4 days, thought the season had started.
  23. A few months ago I went to my local Dicks Sporting and they had a rod I wanted on sale, but not the length I wanted in stock. The sales associate located what I wanted at another store in Florida and had the rod shipped to my home with no shipping charges.
  24. That's because you were smoking dope in it.
