  1. Why not? People that think otherwise have only bought into propaganda. I haven't used a b/c in 40 years.
  2. Not unusual and artificial is even harder. People tend to think there are fish every where in the ocean, nothing could be further than the truth. Have had numerous days go by without a strike, but there are times when every cast is a hook up too.
  3. If you have ever snorkeled or scuba dived on of the rules from the dive captain is to always remove rings, watches, and bracelets barracudas will strike your jewelry.
  4. Cool......I see so many people coming out underarmed. Being an east coaster I don't know what a Yellow is.
  5. What I'm saying is tightening your drag with 15# line too tight is going to get you broke off with many saltwater species. You need to set that drag where it's supposed to be and play the fish, I may tighten my drag a click or 2 ( while fighting the fish) but I'm not putting the line in jeopardy of breaking . In addition you just don't know what's going to hit your line next. Wanting a smoother drag is entirely different issue.
  6. Can't tell ya how many times I've seen a " professional " tourney bass fisherman ( like they really are ) go on a party boat with their bass outfits and going king or bonita fishing thinking they are some kind of hot shot, only to see their equipment not last the trip. Heard 1 say I catch 10# bass on this rig with no problem.....too funny.
  7. Been noticing for weeks. Amazing how many people do not wear PFD when going out into the ocean, the inlets can be fierce to navigate too. I'd so no more than 1 out of 100 wear the included young their young children. Must have seen at least 150 +boats go out this morning, saw 1 PFD.
  8. Isn't technology wonderful ? I'm sure many of the oldtimers like myself grew up fishing in a rowboat with no motor, needless to say no electronics and we caught fish. 60 years of bass fishing and I've yet to use a fish finder, I use them in saltwater only to mark depth. If I had a boat today for bass I would definitely have one, but I think good fishing instinct is the best tool you can have.
  9. The relationship of your rod tip to the surface of the water would have more of bearing on the depth of your lure than standing or sitting. More control standing with rod top at various angles if you are fishing different depths in the water column, deep I hold the tip just above the surface, harder to that sitting.
  10. Probably just a matter of dollars and cents, must not sell enough of that product to stock them, small margin or a dispute with the manufacturer.
  11. Not the heat, I leave mine in my garage year round, in Florida my garage temp is over 100 much of the year. I think your line is not spooled properly. I have never had line slipping like you mentioned, I use tape, electrical or masking, tie or just tape, personal choice, spool it tight and you should have no problem.
  12. Sounds like a recipe for disaster. I fish cuda and Bonito on a very regular basis. Drag ratings differ quite a bit spinning as compared to a conventional reel. I use 4000 stadic for my cuda 20# drag, bonito spheros 8000 27#drag, barely stops them, and a conventional Avet mxj 9 lb on strike max 16lb. The Avet has so much more stopping power than any of the spinners but the rating is quite a bit less and less than the 24# Revo, but better suited for offshore use. Still have to have the proper rod and line ,15# on a tight drag will lose a ton of bonita, have to back that drag down and fight a fish properly, pull up reel down and take your time. To be honest, how can you mention bass, along with cuda and bonita? Bass are small with a minimal fight as compared to the extreme power of a bonita. Bottom line, if you are going to fish saltwater use the proper saltwater equipment set at the proper drag, earn how to land some of these powerful fish and leave your bass rig at home.
  13. That's fine work........but isn't it proper to set your drag according to the test of the line? I don't know what test line you use in saltwater and your target species, but setting a drag much tighter than it should be will often result in line breakage. If you need extra drag to stop a fish then you should be using a heavier reel and rod with heavier line.
  14. I saw the three's interview, cocky sob's.......I'm betting half the civilized world hopes they fall flat on their *****......if they don't produce several championships they're gonna have a lot of egg on their faces. Always best to stfu and just play the game, rather than gloating before stepping on to the court, failing and looking like an *******.
  15. I thought the same as you fishingbuds, but the reference is to another screen name not yours. D4u2s0t....who made a post, only a head would pickup on that. The term 420 started out in a high school in California in the early 70's where a group of kids use the term 420 to signify that at 20 minutes after 4 it was light up time. Some others think it started as the police code for a pot bust was 420.
  16. Good point about being cut off, not uncommon at all. I caught 3 this morning which is off the charts for catching them. Most times they just follow the tube then veer off or hit the tube and miss the hook. Fishing from shore or pier it's snook and tarpon on the outgoing and cuda on the incoming. The tube in my picture ( I lost it yesterday, cuda bit thru 60# wire) we make ourselves using a limerick hook 12/0, the man that created this style intended it for stripers in Maryland, no longer makes them. Most over the counter tubes are made with 2 or 3 trebles, I make them that weigh too, they basically float on top with a little wiggle action, just as effective. Big difference is the quality of surgical tube used, store bought don't last and ours do. That's a beautiful photo of a very nice fish.
  17. I went to the heavier leader a number of years ago because I have better chance of not breaking the leader on a snag and losing my lure. Also some of my target species have gill plates as sharp as a razor blade, wise to use a heavier leader. I would definitely use a 100# leader on 50# braid, if I were fishing for big grouper or another hefty pelagic species, tied with a bimini knot Everyone should just do what they are comfortable with
  18. Wasn't an issue of money, he may do almost as well in Florida as there is no state income tax, that's why so many athletes and celebrities live here. New York 6.85%, New Jersey 8.97%,IL state tax is 3% of federal income tax liability. State tax is due not only on salary but endorsements and any other income.......it adds up.
  19. Great fish, really nice fish ! and lucky to land him without steel, they give an outstanding fish, we get 40-50", one of the guys had 53" last week. Pain in the butt fish? There are a small group of us that fish target cuda. Gotta tell ya the people line up to take these fish, they are absolutely delicious with flaky white meat, small 30" is best, but the people around here know how to cook, disease comes from the reef, the fish picks it up thru the food chain. You can just easily get a bad piece of snapper in a restaurant. Cuda are best caught incoming tide minutes before tide change, they like clean calm warm water. We use cuda tubes which we make our selves, they resemble eels in the water, snook, tarpon and kingfish will hit these lures as well, they are fish magnets. Conditions are perfect this morning for them. This is why I'm a primary saltwater fisherman
  20. Misleading? He has great arm length pose on those fish, that's the way to photograph them, could they be held out any further? I love it.
  21. IMO Lebron's declaration was way over the top and I really don't blame the Cleveland fans feeling the way they do, but to the fans thinking Lebron is losing Ohio jobs for them is lunacy, they should be blaming China instead. I don't blame him for wanting a ring. My 10 yr gr son is upset he didn't go to Chicago, he is too young to have seen the greatest. Only a few rings will put Lebron in the upper echelon of players. Kobe is the best thing to come along since Jordan.
  22. Nothing wrong with your avatar. IMO a negative comment regarding an avatar displays someones anger towards that person. On the opposite side feeling bad about some ones opinion may a bit too thin skinned. Of all the problems we encounter on a daily basis, a forum member's opinion on a pic is low on my list of concerns.
  23. Shimano makes great reels if buying stradic on up, otherwise more bang for buck else where. I would go to a tackle shop and compare what you like best at a given price range.
  24. Pretty common scenario here in Florida, yet I seem to have no problem. You could pull the Titanic up with 65# braid.
