  1. I use 10# PP freshwater water..never a wind knot, I use 15 or 20# saltwater, no wind knots except one outfit. Put the line on a different reel, 1 month no wind knots. I think ya gotta know how to fish this stuff, pretty simple really.
  2. Beautiful fish.........wish we had stripers down here. My fishing mates from Long Island tell me snook fishing and stripers are real similar except the stripers run bigger. My biggest snook is only 35#, I fish for them daily.
  3. Is this bet fair? It is easier for a 300# person to lose ten than a 150#er. A fair bet would be a percentage of body weight lost.
  4. EJ, sounds like you were using a freshwater reel in saltwater, not surprised, probably a real piece of sh---, that said I've been using a supreme ( not xt) in saltwater for nearly 2 years, smooth as the day it emerged from the box. Every salt reel I own is exceptionally smooth, I don't use oil, I use corrosion block. Back on topic imo the trion is well worth the $39
  5. The boats in my area are somewhere around 70-80', they don't anchor but drift. In the winter they are crowded daily 40-50 people but summer time 10-20 most of the time, that's when I go. Lines are always tangled and that is why braid is not allowed or at least frowned up, this is the only time I use mono. Boats here supply rods and reels and if you bring your own they will supply the terminal tackle, I see no reason to bring my own.
  6. I catch hundreds of fish on xraps both fresh and saltwater year round, they never fail. That being said I can put on a $2.00 renegade, bomber or blaze minnow and be every bit as effective. None of the lures have much longevity here.
  7. I get out on the big water quite a bit, sounds like you were on a party boat. We get blues down here ( seasonal) at they are real bulldogs, I've had them bite hooks and lures in half. They slam so hard they set the hooks themselves, like many salt species. We get them right off the beach so you can walk them down and no other lines to worry about tangling.
  8. As long as there is government corruption the drug problem will never be solved, too many people being paid off and turning a blind eye. Serpico, Prince of the city......these are true stories and happens everywhere from the smallest cities to the largest ones. Legalization isn't the answer either, then we will have the same corruption in the form of lobbyists for tobacco or drug companies.
  9. In my part of Florida it is common to eradicate weeds in both community ponds and canals, they spray every few months. Most HOA's do not care about fishing, although I know one community that has a fishing dock, but they still kill the weeds. One thing I can't understand is that I have 6 ponds where I live, 4 have fish and 2 don't. All ponds are connected underground for water level control and then connected to the canal outside the community. Gators swim back and forth but the fish don't.
  10. It's Walgreen not CVS. There may be a couple of spots behind the office building off Congress where you might be able to park & launch, but I would only do it on a Sunday. Atlantic Ave just past 441, the old Palm Beach track is now a park, perfect for kayaks and very little pressure.
  11. In many states they can, providing they are over 65 and residents of the state they are fishing in. Only 3 men were 65+ and none were residents.
  12. I have the 6'6 med 6/12 spinning with a supreme 30, does a great job, have caught snook on this set up as well.
  13. In my opinion to solve the drug problem is to eliminate the market, no market no illegal drugs coming in( in reality that's not going to happen). The majority of efforts have been in trying to stop the flow instead of stopping the need or desire, not all drug users are addicts. In the hierarchy of the drug business a death sentence is of no consequence as other lords and even people in their own cartels are always gunning for them...they have no fear of any judicial system, plus the money to hire the best attorneys. I have no problem legalizing reefer but not other drugs. I don't think the drug problem will ever be solved. Another problem seldom talked about is over scripting by prescription happy writing Dr's prescribing pain pills. It is very easy to obtain a host of prescription drugs over the Internet without a written prescription, only to mention your Dr's name, which is never checked out, I've done this myself. These drugs are American made for foreign markets, same stuff but cheaper.
  14. We use a lot of D.O. A. products down here. As far as I know most baits are developed for saltwater, that being said I've used terror eyes for bass with effectiveness, also saltwater mirrorlure plastics work equally as well. One of my favorites is CAL jerkbaits on a 1/4 oz DOA jig head. Their jigs heads are some of the best I've ever used, and CAL stands for " Cheap *** Lures"............that's a fact. DOA has website with all their products.
  15. For the issue of sunglasses whether polarized or not is more for cataract protection from the sun, it will catch up with you later in life. Only to contradict my statement, simple cataract surgery in many case can bring you back to 20 -20, I'd be just as happy not having to have it done, one less old age malady to be concerned with.
  16. I fish in a salt environment and I have never used KVD line treatment and I get zero rust on my rods and reels. I sometimes give them a spray of salt-x after I've rinsed them down but I'm not convinced that stuff really works. The only trace of rust I see is on my lure trebles and spoons. I change hooks quite often, the fish down here really tear them up, so it's really a non issue, and I clean my spoons every couple of weeks with brasso or toothpaste ( if the plating is really light). Some use auto wax, personally I think it's an exercise in futility. If I'm not mistaken rust is caused by oxidation, I would suggest a rinse down then dry them with a cloth or or paper toweling.
  17. Most knots tied correctly will not slip. I use only 2 knots for basic fishing ( I'm mostly fishing salt, bigger stronger fish), standard clinch for hooks and swivels and loop knot for lures, these 2 knots work perfect always. Only additional knots I use are for line to line uni-uni or for really big fish the bimini twist. I invented nothing, take my lead from most every charter boat or guide I've been with.
  18. Check it out when my bass season opens for me, now I'm consumed with saltwater.
  19. Can't beat bells.............where I shop. Columbia, Reel Legends, Guy Harvey.
  20. What apt complex?...........not that I would trespass.
  21. As were are talking Shimano I'd go with the 2500, it has more versatility, seeing as you are from N.C. you may do some light inshore fishing. I have caught hundreds of snook & tarpon on 2000 series reels.
  22. I share all my spots.
  23. Soak them in milk...........One of my fishing mates makes a stew from them.
