Does anybody else find themselves throwing soft plastics more often than hardbaits?
The conditions dictate what I use, this year lots of high weeds and floating grass so I'm fishing soft baits weedless. Clean water I prefer hard baits.

sweet looking reel !!!
I saw pics of the new supreme xt at $149, nice looking as well, still very light.

Frog rod and line
i have always felt that 50 lb. braid is way more than plenty for frogging , i usually use 30 lb. power pro . i have on 50 lb. power pro , had an extra spool for catfishing so i spooled up my Revo SX HS , i couldn't imagine using 65 lb. !!!! :-? 20# PP on med 8/17 spinning rod works well for me.

tap tap wiffffffff - missed fish on soft plastics
I was taught by my father to always let the fish take the bait, then a fairly gently hookset based on timing. When I host my own fishing tv show I'll hook em hard.

Lure Weight- Exceeding it?
I use Hurricane Redbones, either 8/17, max 3/4 oz or 10/20, max 1 oz, both in 7' and & 7'6 models. I throw my home made cuda tubes which are about 1.5 oz.........never a problem, that would be my limit

sweet looking reel !!!
Looks purdy....... If it fishes as well as a supreme, it's a winner. I use my supreme 35 for snook, plenty of muscle.

Would like to hear everyones opinions on Shakespeare products
Ugly stick.............depends on the quarry. Just pulling a statistic out of thin air I would say at least 1/3 of rods here in saltwater are uglies, with a 4 or 5000 spinning reel on them. The guys I fish with for cudas just about all use them. Cast far, ton of backbone and last almost forever.

R.I.P. Jimmy Dean
If I'm not mistaken Jimmie Dean Sausage was bought by Sara lee. At any rate they screwed him over but good, case in court like 20 years.

Heinz 57
Those sauces are pretty decent, but on a quality steak ( that you can't buy in market, only sold at packing houses for restaurant & hotel use) I marinate them in zip sauce.

Just my luck... :(

Nothing decent in the shimano line until you hit a stradic.........$100 supreme, without doubt. 20 more posts, 20 more opinions. lol

From MN, fishing Florida for the 1st time
Been bank fishing here for years and came across less than 6 snakes, but they do scare the crap out of me. I have caught gators on plastics or top lures and have caught going after a fish I caught, they are usally not interested in you..........but if they are, no way you can outrun one. Have yet to see a python.

second peacock of the year..
Only thing I miss catching in freshwater are peas, none to be seen in Palm beach County. Really a very minimal effort in freshwater these days.

spinning reel problem?
It's a Shimano, what do you expect.......lol. I have a stradic fi 4000 myself, bail has been sticking right out of the box, other than that it's an outstanding reel Line twist is caused by retrieving, not bail closing. I close by hand as well, only because it's easier and less wear & tear. I cast, mostly braid, with the line flowing thru my fingers and a gently pinch of the line before impact, so my hand is right on top of the spool make hand closing the way yo go, this method practically eliminates wind knots.

Casting Distance with Braid
Braid may cast a bit farther than mono but no question that lighter braid casts farther than heavier braid, I see a difference between 10 & 20#, I don't use anything heavier. The rod plays a big part as well. I don't get worked up over distance anyway, distance is over rated.

Losing lures
I lose something almost every time I fish, way it goes. I doubt trilene xl is the the problem, I've use trilene xl on much more formidable species

Oil Spill
Someone will buy them before they go under. Exxon has tons of cash lying around. If the stock price drops much more they'll be swallowed up. Yep, talk of them being a hostile takeover candidate. In the long run those that work for BP in the United States will keep their jobs, but with all M&A some positions will be eliminated due to redundancy, that's capitalism.

Oil Spill
Revenue minus all expense = profit or loss. There has been some talk of this company going under, I don't think so. IMO they will somehow weather the storm, if not the British government may go to it's rescue, many many pensioners in England are dependent on this company surviving.

Oil Spill
BP has said the $5000 is the initial payment, but more on the way to each. So far, more than 42,000 claims have been submitted and the company has paid $53 million on more than 20,000 requests from individuals and businesses affected by the spill., that's only 2600 per claim.

Oil Spill
Price of gas at the pump has been coming down, several weeks a go it was in the 2.80 2.99 range, now it's 2.67 to 2.85 range. ( in south Florida). Price of oil is based on commodity futures, supply and demand and reserves, I don't think the spill has had a negative affect at the pump...not yet. Inflation should really have gas well over $3 a gallon over the last 30-40 years if you go back in time and check prices on other items. In addition to that your auto most likely gets double the mileage it did a number of years, resulting in a much lower cost per mile as compared to years ago. I'm no expert on oil well drilling, leak stopping or any other aspect of this disaster, I have to think the best professional minds are hard at work.

Yep, I still hate braid...
I was out this morning and I had a windknot, my casting was lazy as it was calm, less than 10mph. I went back to my normal way of casting, letting the line flow thru my fingers ,just before impact I gently stop the line by squeezing the line with my fingers. Problem solved and lure is running true right at impact. Whether closing bail manually or with the crank has no bearing in reducing a windknot, But I find it easier to do it that way. I have a small supreme 25 about the same size as the 801, very smooth reel but I've experienced similar problems with braid and mono...........it's a dust collector now. My 802 is fantastic, I used it for saltwater and now fresh for the last 2 years, same line at least 2years and never a knot.

pro fisherman
Some of the lessons I've learned in life whether it's fishing or another activity 1. There is always someone better 2. Don't ever over rate yourself and under rate the other person. 3 Proof is in the track record while sitting here posting and making next to nothing many are making an above average living in their chosen career.......bet on the favorite 60 years experience with last 10 fishing everyday and even on my home turf I would probably get smoked by a top pro.

Yep, I still hate braid...
what size reel was the one with issues? I wanted to try a wide spool reel so I bought a Johnny Morris signature 50 (same as 40 but larger spool) put it on a tsunami inshore airwave rod 8' and gave it a good test over about a week, hated it, knot after knot. Returned it to BPS and exchanged for a Daiwa tierra 30, not a single knot with same line on this reel(20#PP), have had it about a month now. When I first started using braid I had many problems, then I learned how to cast braid and never a problem anymore, I'd never use mono again.
