length of a rod does it change anything
Given the same line rating, action and power the shorter rod gives more leverage to fight a fish, tuna sticks are usually about 5 or 5.5 long, 6 tops with a long foregrip for added leverage. Longer rods are fun for playing a fish, but with less control. Growing up fishing with old fiberglass rods, in the early 50's and using by today's standards lousy mono line, sensitivity is not really an issue for me, I know how to recognize the faintest bites. The technology is great today.

I Broke My G- Loomis!
Not the best warranty. I stepped on one of my rods in the middle of the night and slightly bent one of the guides, took it back to where I bought....over the counter exchange, 2nd time I did that. No questions asked, that's a real warranty.

300 Pound Marlin Tows Kayak 11 MILES

how many fish per hour
I only aggressively bass fish from Jan-March, they run bigger and seem to be a bit more plentiful. This time of year I may just fish my community pond for an hour or so, very small and the bite is slow, I don't keep track of size or numbers. I'm an inshore saltwater fisherman and even in peak times you can go for days without getting a strike ( depending on what species you are targeting), I won't say it doesn't get depressing at times but when you catch something, ya gotta great thrill.......I love this challenge.

Power Pro at Walmart vs. others in any differences?
In your area of the country where there are a lot more people fishing it may be nonsense but up here when our BASS and TBF organizations do not have 300 people and there are much fewer fishermen it makes sense. Less fishermen = less people buying fishing line. So the same spool of line can sit on a Wal Mart shelf or in a back room for years. I don't know if braid is effected but I know flouro's are. Some of the boxes that the line comes in will be dusty and look like they have been on the shelf for months. If they get a shipment of line in the fall then some of it will be atleast six months old by the time it is ready for use in the spring. It's still nonsense, that stuff does not fly off the shelves to fast at Walmart, I've seen the same boxes there for a year, a size I don't buy. The Walmart I go to has a small fishing department with a slow turnnover. I would have no reservations about using any of it regardless of age. It's stored in a climate control environment in a sealed package, no sunlight hits the line and dust on the box never touches the line anyway. I store my spooled reels (exposed line) in my garage, in Florida where the temps in the garage exceed over 100 degrees for 6 months at a time. The line is fished under harsh salt water conditions and many of my reels haven't been changed for more than 2 years, line is just fine. I'll take all the PP I can get from Walmart that has dust on the box.

How do pros on TV find fish in open water?
I had a guy living across the street from me that was a producer for a fishing tv show. He told me they fish in the live well of the camera boat, then did some editing. I have no way to prove or disprove this, but it is television.

OIL in the water?????
We have had tar balls on the beach ( Atlantic Ocean ) here for the 30 years that I've fished this area. Year by year that situation has lessened quite a bit due to technology. I have only seen a reduction in fishing due to "overfishing" and not complying with regulations.

Power Pro at Walmart vs. others in any differences?
Another route to go when you only need 100 yds or so to be topped off is your local tackle shop. PP is .11 a yd off their bulk spool. My local Walmart does not carry 15#, so I go to tackle a shop to get topped off.

Line breaking mid cast?
Agree with B. Lee on the spinning aspect, never with conventional. That's fishing, I never fall in love with a lure, don't own them long enough.

Weird Fish Please Tell
Not a common pleco, but as previously mentioned armored catfish aka sailfin cats

keeping the largemouths I catch safe
Generally grabbing a bass by the lower jaw immobilizes them.

Swivel snaps on crankbaits
Obviously KVD does not tie a loopknot. A loopknot or a duoclock will produce the same result. Advantage to snap is not having to retie ( no big deal) and having your leader last longer as it does not shorten with each new lure. Don't know if he fishes with a leader or not.

The "Perfect" Presentation
Totally agree !! Most of the time when I bass fish I only take 4-5 lures, once I catch a bass I change ( I don't like getting bored), when they are on everything seems to work equally, and when they are off nothing seems to work.

rod suggestions
You don't need a better rod, clarus is ideal for your purpose, I'd go with 8/17, plenty light and sensitivity is not an issue, it's backbone. If you want a better rod , I use hurricane redbones, about $100 ( I get them on sale) have 6 of them, one of the better inshore rods around and feels a little heavier than the clarus. Keep it dedicated for salt and don't get anal about the equipment, the clarus is perfect. Fishing the shore or jetties you just never know what's going to strike, 1# to sky's the limit, remember this is a casting set up, not a bait set up.

Car wreck...
Not familiar with Texas but most states require pl & pd only, property damage and liability. Comprehensive and collision insurance is not required, those are the options to have ones own vehicle covered, deductible usually waived if not at fault (collision). Plates are purchased for a 1 year period, pl & pd needed, but many insurance polices are bought on a 6 month term. When payments are stopped by customer or not renewed at the 6 month period, voila, no insurance coverage. Many polices do have a 10 day grace for late payments.

Braid on spinning gear
Personally for freshwater I see no reason to be heavier than 10# or 15#, maybe 20# braid for heavy slop, but there is no reason to batten that drag down tight.

Anyone ever injure themselves fishing?
Yep, many times.....injured myself in January still very sore.
-
Swivel snaps on crankbaits
I never remove the split rings unless I need it for something else. Lures works just fine with or without them, I do both tie as well as use duolock, see no difference in amount of fish caught.

rod suggestions
As a Florida fisherman that fishes jetties, shore and freshwater my pick would be an inshore shimano clarus, 7' med 6/15, if you think that may be a little light bump it up to the 8/17 and dedicate it strictly to saltwater. Spending only $30 for a reel and the clarus is around $60 I see no point in using this for double duty, catch that 5 # jack or ladyfish and you will know why. I use 15# braid, 30# leader on similar set ups and handle many fish 15-30#,

Car wreck...
Cars are made to disintegrate around you absorbing the energy of the impact and less damage to the cockpit, resulting in a more expensive repair. Older cars seemed to get only a scratch but personal injury was much greater. Cars are so much safer and energy efficient today. "Bump work" is becoming a thing of the past, today it is part replacement. It doesn't really make a difference how much the repair is, you are only responsible for the deductible.

Braid on spinning gear
My reason for using light spinning is not horse them in but to play them, line choice is personal. Tightening the drag down on those little 2 pounders may not break the line, but catch a hard fighter like blues, jacks or tarpon and they will break you off in heartbeat with your drag tighten down to much. Catching fish of this caliber will teach how to use your equipment more proficiently and in the process you may become better at catching those small ones.

Braid on spinning gear
I fish nothing but braid on spinning, same line ( 15#pp) for 1# dink as a 40# tarpon, no twist, no windknots , plenty strong.

Now I Know!!!
92 and high humidity everyday until October, not complaining as I knew what I was getting into before I moved here full time. Summer gnats and noseeums are brutal, but as in golf......play the conditions or stay home, I fish every day without fail.
