  1. Nice tarpon, wish we had freshies up here. I would drive down there for sure for some action like that, don't know the Miami area.
  2. The diameters of braided line of the same test strength are so close that it makes no difference to me at all, bit more line on the spool but a bass is not going to spool you anyway. As far as strength goes, they are all real strong and no bass is going to snap your line if your line is good shape and your drag is set properly. If you are targeting other fish you have to match your equipment to your quarry, including line. I use PP only for the convenience and price, 10 or 15# for freshwater, 20 is ok. Sometimes I get amazed on the size and power of some fish I catch on 15# braid. IMO the key is learning to use your equipment and how to land fish, statistical info can drive you crazy, no need for it.
  3. I have only read of winter kill of snook but have not seen it myself. I will say that I'm catching less snook than I did last year but some of that has to do with my home spot being shut down for the last year or so. I hear they are killing them up at Juno. As soon as the winds die down a little bit and less seaweed coming in I'm heading up to Hobe Sound and fish the Refuge.
  4. The 2 new Pfluegers may be nice reels, based on past performance of the present supreme and xt. But the budget is up to $250, so that does not leave much for the rod, imo the more important of the 2 pieces of equipment. If it were me, providing I was a Pflueger buyer, I would consider a closeout supreme or xt, I think I read somewhere on BR these were selling now for $65 & $99 from Gander or Dicks. Both these reels have already been proven.
  5. I own a few cardinals, only 1 I would buy is the Soron 20, that said it's every bit as good as my stradic and I've caught fish over 30# with it.
  6. Go live crabs for Permit. Soft baits are killers in saltwater, no reason for these not work. I use plastics for snook, tarpon , redfish, triple tail and trout. I've had bluefish and jacks bite hard baits in half.
  7. If the fish don't care, I don't either.
  8. I can understand 1 weapon for self defense under certain conditions but 3 weapons sounds like a person itching for some trouble. Most of the time people that are annoying me just go way after a short while, words aren't even needed.
  9. For $20 bucks I would buy the 7' 10/20 rod ( if I could buy it local without the shipping), otherwise I'd buy an Ande tournament inshore rod for $39.95, great rod.
  10. About 60 years for me. Started in freshwater as kid fishing local areas with my dad, had a cottage so we fished everyday in the summer. We also hit Canada a lot as lived 20 minutes away. Many fly in trips to different parts of Canada, the Algoma region was my favorite, made 3 trips there with canoe and living under the stars. Became a snowbird in 1980 fishing saltwater in winter and freshwater in summer in Michigan. Now it's 90% saltwater, freshwater limited to a couple months of the year, full time Florida resident last 6 years. Many saltwater charter and guides in various Mexican and Caribbean locations, ain't nothing like catching " El Toro" on light tackle, I fish nearly everyday.
  11. If you are targeting bass I don't think it makes much difference what you do, tie or tape, chances of getting spooled is pretty minimal, becomes a matter of preference. I can give reasons why taping is a better choice if fishing other environments, but the vast majority of people here don't fish those areas.
  12. Don't need a stamp now, they are out of season due to the winter kill. Has been talk of opening in September but I've heard of no confirmation. No question they are fun and this is the time of year, exactly why I do very little bass fishing now. I got a couple around that 40" mark last week, but one of the guys here caught one that weight about 30#.
  13. Don't read anymore into it than just a slow bite this time of the year, I'm experiencing the same thing..........try live bait.
  14. I use braid on everything and I just tape it to the spool.
  15. Then you really don't know what other reels offer. I own several spinning reels from quite a few different manufacturers. The Stradic is a rock solid performer no question about it, but there are others that do a great job as well. Up to $100 just about anything in the Pflueger lineup performs very well. My personal favorite is a Soron 40 or cardinal 802 ( no difference in cardinal or soron ) the Soron is as smooth as the Stradic and the drag is every bit as good, both reels have been durable over time. It's really hard to pick a bad reel these days. Makes me wonder how people can give a review based on a few minutes handling them in a store or using their buddies to catch a few fish on. I bought a daiwa tierra about 6 weeks ago, reel has performed well but I can't give it a proper review until more hard fishing is done on it.
  16. Those keens are nice, are they secure around your ankles? I wear Columbia riptides, very comfortable and secure and fit real nice, downside is I wear them in the water when wading and they soften up too much, need to be replaced.
  17. ;D ;D ;D funny stuff! What's funny? Spending $400 from a pic, to me that's' hilarious or not believing there is bias. You would be better off from a Bass Resource review.
  18. Has every thing to do with it. An automatic camera, modern digital, will always select the correct f stop for any given shutter speed. Granted there is no aperture ring but you can still adjust the speed or f stop manually to your liking with a simple press of a button. For fish pics, I just leave it on program and they turn out decently enough, I'm there to fish and pictures are a remote priority. 100000%.........correct, and well said. Fat g, I'm glad the av mode worked well for you, shirt more in focus at f8? Also the lenses on these camera are not the greatest, unless you get into something that you can interchange lenses. My Fuji does not have interchangeable but I can use filters, I really like my polarizing filter.
  19. Right on ! To say the damage is over rated is burying your head in the sand. The hardship caused to the local people is catastrophic to them, due to no fault of their own, many of these people just make it by in the best of times.
  20. The way I understood is tat with the cap they can capture 80,000 gal a day instead 25,000. The key is the relief well to permanently stop the leak.
  21. I wouldn't buy anything based on a picture( like getting a mail order bride from the Philippines, don't know what you get until she arrives). I also wouldn't buy anything based on what a reviewer like Tackle Tour. Using a brand new reel freshly spooled for a few days is not a true test, says nothing on the long term durability. It wouldn't surprise me if some of the manufacturers had "lobbyists" seeking favorable reviews.

  23. Who drops their phone? Only time I have my phone fishing is when I'm offshore in case I need to call Sea Tow and it's stored in dry place.
  24. Setting 1600 speed opens the aperture to a wide setting, giving more depth of field, could be why your shirt is blurry ( out of focus), no need for that much speed for a still photo. Set your camera on aperture mode and experiment until find the correct f stop to get in focus what you want. Low f stop like f2.0 wider opening more depth of field, f11 or your highest on that camera, small lens opening almost everything is in focus. Your camera will select the correct speed. Higher number f stop is a slower speed, conversely low number is a faster speed, it's all about balance, the proper amount of light entering the camera. Nothing wrong with slower speed as long as there is no camera shake. I prefer using the view finder over the lcd display, holding the camera at arms length can create more camera shake. I prefered the old match needle cameras bit faster and easier to set, but the cameras were real heavy.
