An enjoyable morning
Water just hit 80 degrees here as well, things should start lighting up. Interesting year so far, not many Jacks but have only caught 1 little one about 2-3#, most have been 5-8#,few 10- 20# and 1 30 pounder.

An enjoyable morning
The way I like it, 1 rod, 1 lure, hunt the beach with no electronics or gimmicks........pure fishing Chances of a 30 or 40# fish is as good as 3 pounder. These have been in the last couple of days.

recycling old fishing line.
We have containers in Florida at many public fishing locations designated for old line, I use them. I put my old line in bag, toss it in the trunk of my car until I pass by a receptacle for old line. Old line can be a nightmare for birds and animals.

best under rated lure
In my mind without doubt. Spoons will catch almost any game fish any where in the world fresh or salt and even at night. My preferences are kastmaster or tsunami for windy conditions, mepps, and for benign conditions I like a generic spoon from my local tackle shop, $2.50. I fish spoons probably 80% of the time, love a Wahoo redfish spoon for LMB or peacocks. Not all spoons have the same action, only one i don't like is a krocodile.

Choice for a spinning reel
Once you pass that $125.00 mark almost every major mfg makes a darn good spinning reel, comes down to the features you want. I love every spinning reel I have and a number of manufacturers are represented.

Spooling new line - Saving the old
X2 I see no point to putting that effort into striping off perfectly good line, I would just troll it out at the start of my next outing or the very last thing I do of my present outing. If conditions dictate what set up I need I just take the appropriate one with me.

sahara 4000 for surf fishing?
I have 2 spheros, 4000 and 8000. Far from the smoothest but workhorses, I would not buy either again. My next 8000 could be a shimano sargossa or the new Penn, I think conquest? Now we are around $200. Quantum Boca, good choice I have a pt 30(4000 size reel) they go about $130. It's a tough decision, 120-$150, most are pretty decent.

Shark--IN ILLINOIS!
Bull sharks have traveled a thousand miles or more in India, called Ganges sharks there..........they are maneaters. I'm not surprised, very cool.

Had a run in with the Game Warden today
Mattlures, what I'm saying is, there was no infraction. You can use whatever lure of choice you wish for bass or any other species. Matt I know you make lures, is not possible while using one your baits for bass another species hits that lure? Many packages will say good for bass, trout, walleye and so on, down here the packages say good for redfish, snook, tarpon and trout. This warden was out of line, with no proof of any wrongdoing..are we not innocent until proven guilty? Having a trout stamp in the first place would have been good move, especially if required in that state.

Had a run in with the Game Warden today
I think the warden was out of line. A kastmaster, mepps or any other spoon catches just about any game fish in the world. You were targeting bass and I would have said this lure slays them, then shut my mouth. What matters is what you have on the stringer, he can't prove you were trout fishing if you don't have any, then say nothing on the subject. Two 1 word answers to any question, yes or no, then it's up to him to prove you did something wrong. Even having a trout stamp he would harassed you on some other issue, maybe your zipper was down and he would have accused you of ticking into the lake or flashing someone j/k, but you get the point. You were bullied! Denzel in Training Day " It's not what you know, it's what you can prove".

Choice for a spinning reel
Many people advocate setting your drag and leaving it, especially in freshwater. Say you are using 6lb the drag should be set around 2lb whether using a 2000 or 2500 reel, with either reel you are not utilizing the full force of the drag. My new tierra 3000 has a 13# drag set at about 5#, more than enough than enough to land the fish I posted in the other species section this morning. Don't you think it's a bit like towing a boat with a 4 cylinder as opposed to an 8 cylinder, though? Both can do the job but what about the long term effects? With all due respect I don't think that is a good comparison. If one were catching nothing but fish 10lb and more I'd yes you are right, then go with a 4000 reel, not a 2500. IMO most that are using 2000 or 2500 size reels that the average fish is probably a few of pounds or less with the occasional larger 7#+being caught. I have a couple of 2000 reels that I use in saltwater, the fish are bigger than a few pounds and very strong, the reels do not wear out.

sahara 4000 for surf fishing?
First of all do not under estimate a bluefish or a striper, a 20# striper will give you all you can handle, it is not a small fish. Personally I would shy away from a sahara, it's decent freshwater reel that can be used in salt but I don't think it will stand the test of time and the drag would be questionable for the target species. I don't want to jump you too high in price so I would consider Pflueger medalist ( I have a 5000 and it's the smoothest reel I own, but a bit heavy), most bang for your buck imo. Penn's are extremely popular and built for the salt, about $125.00 and worth it. About every mfg makes what you need, I think a minimum of a 20# drag would be wise.

Choice for a spinning reel
As a rule I hand close but not always, the problem is the first turn of the handle , not how it's closed, the line must be tight before winding. I just about always pause a sec just after the lure has hit the water before starting my retrieve. Regarding a tierra, I bought a wide spool reel and cast after cast resulted in wind knots for a solid week. Returned reel in favor of the tierra and in a week of fishing heavy wind not one single wind knot. I'm nearly convinced you must have the right reel for the right rod to elimante those problems

sahara 4000 for surf fishing?
The reel would be ok, little on the small side for cut bait fishing. I say that because 8#mono is a little light for that type of fishing and with 10 or 12# you may run into coiling issues. If it were me I'd use 20 or 30# braid and now you can use that set up for casting as well, be a nice light duty surf casting outift. Don't forget to rinse the reel after each use.

New Pond! Approach? *Pics*
I'm in Florida as well and fish mostly community ponds from shore. This year has been unusual as we have high weeds and lots of algae. I have not been using my traditional winners but have gone to fishing flukes rigged weedless most of the time with great success.

If it ain't banged up....
Where I mostly fish my lures get banged up real bad. My xraps peel and in time many are now white with patches of color. That being said, the fish don't really mind a bit, I catch as many on a banged up lure as one fresh from the box. I use them until they are no longer usable.

Did I do right thing?
Quite possibly true. Don't let the kids age fool you, he may be your match or better. In an ambush with his friends a better than average chance you come out second best. I would never call the police in that scenario, adds more fuel to the fire, never know what kid like that is capable of. Move on a forget the girl, sounds like nothing but aggravation, at 20 there are young women all over the place. Without her the situation will just diffuse on it's own.

How's your season been so far?
I don't keep a tally but I think numbers are down. I have caught some sensational fish considering the bait hasn't arrived as yet and dealing with a west wind wind most days. My best has been a 30 pounder on med spinning tackle, many in the 10# range.

What's the going rate for a used Stella FA 2500
First issue is how has the reel been maintained, no way to know? Secondly approaching this transaction from a business standpoint, 5-8 year old reel with old technology would put cost at no more than 25% of original price, somewhere around 100-$125, imo. What I never can understand is that if a stella is that good, why not a lifetime warranty for $600+? I'd still go with a new fi or even c-14, latest technology and a warranty. In the case of a professional fisherman, probably the stella is a better bet but he/she would be buying or obtaining new.
