  1. For me it's the size of my target fish as well. I use nothing but spinning with braid and I fish for a wide variety of fish. One has to find their own brand of choice, most today are really pretty good.
  2. Dan is right, not all fly rods but I have seen some slightly off center. I would use the rod as is, you won't even notice the difference after a few minutes of use and rod will function normal. A fly rod is one area where I would spend a serious buck.
  3. Fish City a nice boat? I generally go on the lady K or sea mist and hate those boats, crew and capt's are jerks. The Black Dog out of Jupiter is excellent but pricey and a long drive for me, and I like the Flamingo, Ft Lauderdale, it's a drive too.
  4. I'd opt for a pier net, not too expensive and you won't harm the fish if you choose to return it back to the water. We use weighted trebles here for larger cuda over 35" ( people line up to take them home, great eating) but it's a 2 man, job rope gaff or net, and our pier is less than 10' high. Fish the beach, you don't need any help or extra gear to land fish, get a rod spike if you plan on bait fishing.
  5. 8-12 I'm staying home........I don't think the drift boats in my area, The Lady K and and The Sea Mist would even go out in that weather and those boats are about 75' with a broad beam. Hard to imagine navigating the Boynton inlet in that weather, smaller boat may not make it out with the incoming tide. I hear tell of lots of Black Tip and Spinner sharks on the beach, going out just before down see if I can nail one on an arti.
  6. I agree with Raul, I use different lure types and techniques on the same rods and select my rods according to water conditions and size of fish. I'll use the same 1/4 or 1/2 oz bait on my 6/12m bass rod and use that same bait on 10/20 tarpon rod. I hate confusion, guess that's why I keep it simple and basic.
  7. Could not agree more................
  8. The rougher the better for sails and they are hot now, fished for them out of Riveria Beach last week. Had the outgoing yesterday and picked up a few snook, then went bass fishing and the first decent day in a while, caught one about 25inches. Winds picked up in the PM and it was a waste of time. Can't wait for the bait to come in !
  9. Pound for pound and tooth for tooth I've yet to meet a northern than can compare to a barracuda. I use 30lb mono leader with an occasional cut off, not to say that I don't use wire sometimes, just a 6-8" piece of piano wire will do fine ( haywire twist).

  11. Only point I'm trying to make is because some don't care for her doesn't mean mean that others do not find her entertaining, to each their own. Was never making a comparison between her and anyone else, just saying other trendsetters began their careers with many negative reviews and wound up being accepted by the mainstream. If I remember correctly The Ed Sullivan Show would not allow Presley to be viewed from the waist down while on performing on stage and parents tried to shelter their kids from seeing him. CRAZY?
  12. In the private community ponds( no boating on most ) private companies do weed kill several times a year, the Home Owners Association cares less about fishing. Palm Beach county and the Lake Worth Drainage District ( LWDD ) are always dredging and weed killing, I'm told it's about water flow, they also don't care about fishing. The canal behind my home used to be sensational, they dredged and I haven't caught a bass there in 6 months.
  13. I use only spinning with braid and no backing ever. I use painters tape instead of electrical tape. I don't mind spending the extra $ on the initial spool up and I'm using a leader so I don't go thru much line. I have about 15 spinning outfits with braid.
  14. What no obese people here? The United States ranks #9 of the world's fattest countries with 237 million being overweight. At least we rank in the top ten in something.......lol
  15. I made the entire 9 min and 20 seconds and it wasn't bad at all, I thought entertaining. Going back a few a years ago as I remember many thought Presley and the Beatles would never make it either.
  16. In my area of Palm Beach county they do the opposite, weed killer every few months and the fishing really tails off for a while.
  17. Caught it on a Okuma jiggin rod, Daiwa Saltist reel, 100lb braid and a butterfly jig like you said. Nice equipment
  18. Why not just write a paper with your own thoughts and research and be judged on the merit of your own creativity, isn't that what higher education is about?
  19. yes, no to 4 & 8
  20. Freshwater from shore, 1 rod med or light spinning 6'6 10# braid. Saltwater inshore, 1 rod spinning 7'6 med 4000 reel, back up rod in car. Saltwater offshore, 3 rods. Avet mxj on a Star handicraft 7' 10/25 for trolling 20# mono. 1 spinning, 8000 reel on a Shimano Blue water rod 10/25 for drifting, 17#mono. 1 spinning 5000 10/20 mh, 20# braid for casting for dolphin, cuda , bonita, cobia.
  21. Insurance is not immediate available funds. In my marriage it isn't my money but our money. Once I'm gone she can use it as she wishes and I hope she has a happy life. But I'll cover for you as long as it's a spinning saltwater rod....
  22. Great price and yes they would be very good for saltwater on a jig head.
  23. I care less what her sexual persuasion may be, I think she is very entertaining and I never knock success. Being a Motown man I never much cared for those C&W entertainers, but respected what they accomplished.
  24. This may be a cute thread but it doesn't work for me. If I have to sneak around to buy something I shouldn't have bought it in the first place and I probably didn't need it anyway. If I'm gonna tick my wife off it's going to be over something serious not a fishing rod......my wife doesn't care what I buy anyway ;D What if I died or was incapacitated using my new Loomis, would I want it to be difficult for my wife to access funds that may be needed?
  25. Agree on the safety issue and non glare properties of polarized lenses for various activities like fishing. Lenses made of polycarbonate contain UV protection whether they are ordinary glasses, sunglasses or polarized. According to WebMd when buying sunglasses they should have a UV protection of 99-100% and also state that pricier sunglasses or darker tint do not give you more UV protection. I was just at the drug store and the polarized lens ( clip ons and flip ups all had stickers saying 100% UV protection. I'm not saying they will not scratch more or less and not fall apart any faster or slower but will give the same eye protection from UV. http://www.webmd.com/fda/sun-safety-save-your-skin?page=2
