bass rigs for saltwater?
I'd like to see proof positive of this statement. I've yet to be with a real saltwater guide that doesn't use Penn slammers, Quantum cabos or Shimano stellas for inshore use, offshore it's conventional reels. I've never seen a serious amateur saltwater fisherman use bass equipment for saltwater, that's like taking a knife to a gunfight. You need to get out more So in your book guides from the following areas are not real saltwater guides! Louisiana: Venice, Black Bay, Grand Isle, Calcasieu (Big) Lake, Caminada Pass, Barataria Pass, Fourchon, Buras, Dularge, Point Aux Chene, Vermilion Bay, Caernarvon, Lake Pontchartrain, Leeville, The Rigolets, Lake Catherine Texas: Aransas Pass, Baffin Bay, Corpus Christi, Freeport, Galveston, Lower Laguna Madre, Matagorda, Port Aransas, Port Arthur, Port Isabel, Port Mansfield, Port O'Connor, Rockport, Sabine Lake, Seadrift, South Padre Island, Upper Laguna Madre The #1 selling reel along the entire Gulf Coast is the Shimano Curado; as per Academy Sports and Outdoors whose sales in 2009 exceded Bass Pro Shops and all other sport and goods stores. I see no proof, just a statement and a host of locations that do not not coincide with what I see on a daily basis here in Florida. Supply unbiased documentation of fishing reels sold, not a statement of overall sales and I will believe it, but still would stay with saltwater gear. If in fact the curado is the #1 sold how can it be proved that it is mainly used in fresh or salt? My guess would be freshwater and for the record it's a good reel. I'm out everyday, beach, pier, drift boat, private boats and Icw and there is way more to saltwater fishing than just redfish.

invasive fish species in flordia
I don't know what an Asian carp is but I do know what a grass carp is and it's not a carp at all, it's a white amur which is the worlds largest minnow from China. They are everywhere here in S. Florida. People catch them on bread or berries dropped from trees.

RANT
This is the new era in the world of banking, years ago there would never have been a charge. Banks will be nickle & diming us and reducing credit limits. I did see a story on the news where an attorney is taking suit against a major bank for raising his credit card interest rate to 29%(paying the statement in full, there is no interest charge), hoping for a sympathetic jury. As history repeats itself it's only a matter of time until they start begging again for your business, we have been getting some of the pre approved credit cards in the mail again.

Fished a canal this morning
I did well yesterday. Went out in the morning for about 90 minutes caught about 6 or 7 on a senko, a bait I would only use in cold weather. No knock on the senko it really produces but I prefer fishing faster. In the afternoon at a different location I caught another 10 or so 5 in very rapid succession, including a peacock using a gold redfish spoon, the key was heat. I fished off heat absorbing rocks.

bass rigs for saltwater?
Serious saltwater fisherman use saltwater equipment in saltwater, kinda makes sense to me. I would not consider freshwater gear in saltwater. PERIOD !! I'm not a tourist and an everyday saltwater fisherman

calais in saltwater?
I would have no fear in using the reel in saltwater, however I don't believe it's a good choice. It would be ok for inshore use from a boat, but as mentioned sand is your worst enemy. The only conventional reels I see used in saltwater are for trolling, drifting, pier fishing and for beach use something like a senator 4/0, not a low profile b/c. A b/c would be fine for fishing seawalls on the ICW where there are no sand concerns. If it were me and for only occasional use I would buy something like a Penn Captiva combo, 4 or 5000 reel, 7'10/20 rod. Lighter than the ugly stick, although "uglies" are quite popular for beach use. I'm an everyday saltwater fisherman, that's my advice.

What is this?!
I need a new spot, all I catch in south Florida is bass and peacocks, that's getting pretty boring. Awesome fish, piques my interest.

How to fix an annoying issue?
If it's what I think it is, it's the equivalent of spam. A few years ago at the fire department we were receiving many unsolicited advertising faxes on a daily basis. Exactly what it is. When I was in business I received 5-10 per night mostly from insurance companies. Once I registered on the do not call list it stopped for a few years.

bass rigs for saltwater?
Sounds like you prefer bait fishing, I'm thinking piers or beach will be your destination. I know what I would buy for that style of fishing, I see it used almost everyday. I'd get a pier net and make a rod spike for the beach. I don't use bait and fish light, DOA's are great and the Cal jerk shad is my go to with a 1/4 oz jig head (DOA makes one of the better jig heads) have caught many of all the fish you named on them.

bass rigs for saltwater?
I'm an everyday inshore saltwater fisherman. I know there will be some feedback but to give you the heads up truth I never see a serious saltwater fisherman using a bass rig, except a bass fisherman coming out for an outing or 2. If interested send me a pm and I would give you my opinion on what I see used everyday. Most of the same tackle can be used, I use much of the same stuff for salt and fresh myself. You don't need all that much stuff, I can get you in the right direction. As mentioned rinsing equipment is of paramount importance, many beaches have water right there.

braid help needed?
I only use light spinning and 10# braid for freshwater, PP only because it's so available and gives me no problems. I never top shot and never have any slippage, just tape and go, I don't even tie. Some reels like an Abu Soron have an o-ring setup for braid but I prefer the tape method.

most influential bait of the decade
Senko, I sometimes use them as jig trailers for snook. There is a a product called a snookball which is practically the same thing.

New Camera, New Fish Pics
I have a canon a590is, it's fine for snapshots, for serious stuff I take out my fuji finepix7000 or my old reliable canon ftb 35 mm which is 35 year olds. The problem I had with the a 590 was battery drain, sent back to canon twice, they cleaned and sent it back saying it was fine and I should be using using canon brand batteries over any other leading brand, which I discounted figuring a battery was a battery. Sent it back after warranty telling them to keep and not to contact me, instead they sent me a repair bill, lol about $100. I called and after some negotiation they again repaired and agreed to send me canon batteries with a canon charger free. THEY WERE RIGHT......BATTERIES LAST OVER 2 WEEKS WITHOUT A CHARGE!, compared to 2 days with duracell.

Best knot for braid?
I use 10# braid to a leader(ordinary cinch knot)leader to lure using a loop knot 100% of the time, use same knots in saltwater with no knot failure, as long as it's tied correctly. Singeing the tag end puts a little bead on it, will never pull thru, tip I picked up from a saltwater guide.

Peacock Bass
I would head south, lots of peas off 441 and intersecting canals from Delray on down, I'm not familiar with W. Palm. Any place south of Coconut Creek or Coral Springs they start getting a bit bigger. This cold front is not primo weather for them.
-
PALOMAR OR IMPROVED CLINCH???
Plain old cinch knot and loop knot 100% of the time for any lure. Singe the tag end and they never pull thru. Most knots work fine for freshwater as long as you take the time to tie them correctly.

Another Shimano
Penn is Penn and Pflueger is Pflueger and I'm not a big Penn fan, however I see way more Penns than anything else. I love Pflueger, Medalist (smoothest reel I own 5000) and Supreme both used in saltwater, Stradic is pretty good too. Check out a Quantum Cabo next time, IMO best in the field. For durability it's the Cabo or Shperos, for smoothness Medalist or Stradic. Just about all the reels will do a very good job, I got way too much stuff....

Jerkbait help.
I probably fish hard jerkbaits more than anything else, except when conditions dictate weedless. For a change of pace and to do something different I rig up a drop fly rig with any kind of jerkbait, not unusual to catch 2 fish at the same time. I'd be embarrassed to tell what my #1 producing jerkbait is as it only costs $2.99.
