Lots of Mackeral
A sight to behold this morning. Thousands of jacks busting, caught 3 each about an ax handle long. As fast as they came in that's how fast they left, next hour not one strike.

How many of you buy a new rod directly from a catalog/website
I'd sooner get a mail order bride than purchase a rod on line, did it once and the rod collects dust. I want to see a rod in action before I consider it, then go to the store and put my reel on it. I also do not want to hassle with an on line return.

Lots of Mackeral
Spainish macks have been running, wind was howling so after 10 or so casts I headed back into the ICW. 2 snook, 3 jacks and a schoolmaster for about 30 minutes of fishing, then I got busted for being on a private seawall.........C'est la vie !

Just got a phone call I didn't want.
Don't know the fine print on your policy but policies differ. Some are replacement value ( proof of receipt required) and others are compensation for used equipment, at least that is the way it works for HO policies. The less cost of the plan the more the deductible.

US Reels
A fishing bud of mine fishes a U.S. reel on a Tsumani airwave, it's impressive and he loves it. Says the airwave is at least as light and sensitive as his loomis rods. This man is a master when it comes to casting, spinning and flyrods. We fished snook together this morning and I had a chance to fish with it.

Need help picking up 2 new rods
6-12 oz is heavy! Can't go wrong with the ugly stick, great spine and economical. If you want to spend more take a peek at Star or Seeker rods. I was out rod shopping yesterday and noticed ugly stick had a very nice line up "surf rods".

Peacock Bass Fish Kills
I have seen many on line photos of dead peacocks in Dade and Broward, very bad winter kill. For me the bass have been off since the weather has warmed, I did very good on the colder days. From what I hear the snook are fairing better, a few caught off the beach couple of days ago.

The United States has always and will always lead the world in disaster relief even to non allied countries, some we have been at odds with. The people in Haiti had nothing to begin with and now have less than that. Salvation Army, Red Cross and the like need our help now !

Ahhhh, the old argurment does color matter?
Got any extra garter belts? I'd like to try 'em. Do you rig 'em on a worm hook, jig head, shaky head, etc.? I suspect a circle hook might work best since the stretch of a garter belt would not allow for an eye crossing hook set. Naw....... I use a limerick hook, as an old salty I'm sure you know what that is.

Ahhhh, the old argurment does color matter?
Conventional wisdom has always said light lures for light bottom or daytime fishing and dark lures for dark bottom or night fishing. I have had a bit more success using very light (pearl) 24 hours a day. both fresh and saltwater, all the other colors in between IMO is just to get you to spend more $$. Many times when bass fishing I change lures after each fish, when they are on they hit anything, including my mothers old garter belt.

site sluggish?
Been using google chrome for many months and for me it's real fast, however this site has been slow compared to others. Maybe a lot of traffic, it's 1:00 am now with no traffic and BR is very fast at the moment.

Are your tires safe?
2 months for manufacturing and shipment doesn't surprise me at all. Maybe 20 years or so many plants & suppliers staring what they called "just in time shipping". They kept very little inventory on hand and ordered when parts were needed, they had the time frame down pat and that is why they called just in time. Being in the scrap business I saw this practice used all the time, even for me sometimes.

What to do with Boat Batteries for the winter?
I had a collection of classic cars that just sat idle in the winter in a non heated warehouse, I put them up on blocks to take the weight off the tire, ever hear the term "winter thump", that's a flat spot created by the cold more common in bias ply than radial. It drives out after a while but it was annoying and I thought to try and protect my stuff as much as possible.

gear ratio
inches per turn, not ratio. I never found any difficulty in speeding up or slowing down my retrieve, I don't pay much attention to ratio.

Peacock Bass Fish Kills
Hearing lots of bad reports regarding floaters, went out yesterday and didn't see any but that doesn't they didn't parish around here. Have seen many mayans gasping at the surface. Keep an eye out for the buzzards, seeing them all over the banks feasting.

Hey South Florida...
I know quite a few kayaker's mostly fish for kings. They put in at Boynton ( free parking ). Some work the ICW, Lake Worth or Southern Blvd, free parking as well. If I were to kayak fish for bass I'd pick the El Rio canal, brackish side in Boca, snook, tarpon, LMB, very little bank fishing, minimal fishing pressure. I know 2 good launch areas, 1 public(free parking) 1 private but no hassle.

Please! Bottled drinks only!
According to the article it's unclear as exactly where the problem comes from. No question that clean hands are important but how many customers actually touch the machines, don't they hold the cup the press a button? My guess the problem is with the staff doing the cleaning of the spigots dispensing soda or water. The article did mention wiping rags as a possible cause, makes sense to me.
