  1. Wear a belt or tie a rope near the top of waders in case you fall, the waders will not fill up with water.
  2. 1 rod with no more than 4 extra lures ( in lure boxes in my pocket)may have a pack of flukes with a couple of hooks in the bag stuck in my back pocket, feel like I'm ready for anything. I'm in constant motion, walking and casting.
  3. Happy to see the Saints win, but I don't think the best team won. The Saints were the best team on the field last night, and that's what counts. Super Bowl 111, Colts vs Jets, the best team lost.
  4. I was disappointed with Queen Latifa( forgot some words) normally I really like her. Carrie Underwood, how did she ever win a Grammy? If I were the producer it would have been Patty Labelle singing the anthem and the "Stones" at half time, they still got it. Game was good, glad the Saints won, and not the best commercials, if I'm not mistaken only Hyundai, Kia, and Honda has game time commercials, with 1 exception a Dodge ad and Chevy after the game. All in all, imo the spectacle has gotten too big and grand, I preferred the early super bowls from the 60's or 70's.
  5. Free advice is worth exactly what you pay for it.
  6. As I previously posted I have been mugged twice and fishing had nothing to do with it. I was where I should not have been, had I had common sense at the time the incidents would never have happened. The only time I have gun with me( rare ) is for shark fishing and it's for the shark. I had a ccw for business back in 70's, after a couple of years I just let it lapse.
  7. State Farm for last 20 years, best I ever dealt with. Personal autos, classic or antique autos and commercial my heavy duty trucks, when I was in business. For those in Florida, check into having a wind mitigation inspection done, my H.O. insurance went down 50% after I did it.
  8. I know other areas of Florida have been pretty hot. I'm in Delray and it's been slow the last week, still catching them but the work is a bit tougher, best success for me is a weightless fluke skimming the top or barely submerged with a walk the dog motion. The snook have been doing real well.
  9. I'm sure the old timers will remember most spinning rods came with aluminum tubes to hold the reels in place, they worked fine.
  10. I use a light Hurricane Redbone with a supreme 8025 spinning reel, handles bass with ease, my favorite bass outfit.
  11. Only if someone near me has a scale and I'm curious, otherwise I don't care. I have marks on my rods for length, 20" for lmb & 28" for snook.
  12. Just another gimmick, not that it won't catch fish, but I catch them on my mothers old garter belt too. A couple months ago I caught a fish and I stepped on it a bit too hard, this fish let out with a squeal like a pig, sounded to me as if it had some pain, don't remember the species.
  13. I own a clarus med spinning and I like it a lot. The rod cost new is $59 I think, imo 50% of original cost on most used items is the top I would pay. Which is it, year old and in good to great condition or new in the box as you stated, it's either new or used? You won't get hurt at $40 as it has a lifetime warranty. If I were your brother in law, I'd just give it to you, especially if it isn't being used.
  14. Pity the deer didn't kill him !!
  15. Anyone own a Jag in the 60's? When it rained they wouldn't start, then Ford took them over and the quality dramatically changed. Past performance is not always a measure of future quality. I have a friend using a modern us spinning reel and it's very sweet.
  16. Freshwater, shimano Saltwater inshore Hurricane Redbone Saltwater offshore, Shimano tallus spinning, Star handicraft b/c Only rod I own that I hate is a daiwa.
  17. I've heard those stories and have seen pics of fishkill as well. In my area I think the snook were a bit more fortunate, I've seen nothing to indicate fishkill here and I've been catching them pretty steady.
  18. I've been to Mexico many , many times and not just to resort areas, the affluent Mexicans dress to the 9's with top of the line accessories, while shorts and t shirts were the dress of the day for the Americans. I always dressed well with jewelry to match, Rado, Rolex, Lucien Picard and others, my favorite today is a 25.00 Timex with an 8 year battery, when the battery died I just bought a new one.
  19. Just last week I was talking with an officer from Palm Beach Sheriff's department and this is what he said to me (had over 30 years of service). You would be surprised how many people get shot with their own guns, simply because they may be trained to shoot at a range( targets don't shoot back) but not trained to handle a situation and not prepared to take a life, regardless of what they say. These are his words not mine. I was mugged twice both times at knife and gunpoint, in each case there were 2 or 3 muggers. They came out of the shadows and were on me so fast even if I had a weapon I'd not been able to pull it out. Luckily I only got stabbed one of the times, the muggers were less fortunate, not to go into detail but I was better trained than they were. IMO you are better off learning hand to hand combat. Beware of the words " Hey buddy, ya got a light?"
  20. The Godfather, a novel for television......1977 The first two Godfather films were re-edited together in chronological order with additional footage added. Run time 434 minutes
  21. Best of Luck !!
  22. I'm a youngster at 65 and have all the stories as the elder statesman. One thing I remember vividly is fishing with no rod at all, hand jigging for walleye in the Detroit river. Detroiters have the best arms. Being in Florida I have no idea anymore of what cabin fever is, I go into withdrawal after 1 day off the water.
  23. I would call Shimano. I put on a cardinal 804 handle on my cardinal 802 reel, I much prefer it.
  24. Unless you are targeting pike or muskie I don't find leverage and hookset to be much of an issue, at least not for me, as J Francho said too much over thinking. Leverage offshore is a major issue, that's why 7' rods have a long foregrip, to take back some of that leverage. I don't question the rod manufacturers , the right rod for the target species.
