  1. I do it quite a bit (in saltwater)a little over is no problem, but there is a limit, for example I may use a rod rated for 5/8 spoon and I will throw a 1oz, that is the limit. In big surf that heavier spoon will work better, but distance is lost and I get a sore back. I have gone as heavy as 1.5 oz with no rod damage, but it's a gamble, make sure you use a rod with a lifetime warranty
  2. But if bigger is always better, than why would you even fish for the 40 lb. Muskie when you can catch a 100 lb. Tarpon? Tarpon grow to much larger sizes, so why would you bother with the Muskie? How many tarpon do you see swimming around in Minnesota? There are big fish in almost every location.
  3. Nice looking pea !!
  4. Is bigger better? Someone has got to be kidding, without doubt bigger is better at least for me. I would not waste my time fishing for the rarest fish in the world if the biggest of the species is a mere 2lbs. Go catch a 30 or 40# muskie or 100# tarpon and tell me bigger isn't better. If bigger wasn't better why would BR members post photos of their bigger fish and why is it so important to some to list their personal best?
  5. I use nothing but braid on all my spinning gear without any incident of damage to the guides, for pond use I use 10# PP. I happen to own that agility reel, first used for snook fishing in saltwater, now it's a guest reel for freshwater, still works perfect.
  6. Caught her around 11:30 am
  7. Not 8Lb, but not bad for Palm Beach County, I know her big sister is around.
  8. Mark Sosin, sometimes seen in tackle shops or on a pier and very approachable, lives in the area. Jose Wejebe, the "Spanish Fly".
  9. 1/4 oz jig head hanging from an old fishing hat, caught my first big tarpon on it.
  10. Brianbass, try the st andews canal in boca, also there is a golf course off military and camino( it's been closed) they both hold peacocks. Lots of peacocks in Lake Ida, I have been stopping there on my home from the ocean and catching nice bass and peas.
  11. Agree with Daniel, Red Grange........all around athlete Jim Thorpe.
  12. For me it makes no difference. My retrieval speed varies with type of lure and and how I'm presenting it, I'm never mechanical I always vary the retrieve. The attack speed of the fish I'm targeting has a bearing on my retrieval speed as well, for example I could use the same combo for bass that swim 12 mph, or small cuda that go 25mph+.
  13. Everyday this week I have been scoring nice snook, today was no exception. It was 5:00am and I forgot the camera in the car. I start off hooking into a nice tarpon, jumped a coupe of times and it's still on the line, then some dickh.......was walking on the sea wall and didn't reel his line in to allow me to fight the fish, our lines got tangled and fish off, needless to day I was a bit po'd. Luckily landed 4 snook, 2 of them pushing about 30" on artis, not bad for this time of the year.
  14. This combo is always with me, it has caught hundreds of fish from 1# runners to 40+# tarpon, used sea walls, piers and surf. 7'6 Hurricane Redbone med 8/17 with a Abu Soron 40, 15# PP, 30# Ande leader, also my longest casting combo. Not my prettiest or smoothest but prefer it to my Stradic and Cabo of same size.
  15. We don't have 20 lb Peacocks in south Fla, a 5# is nice one here ( state record around 9#), that being said as great as Peacocks are, and I love catching them, a 5 # Jack Crevelle IMO will out fight a 5# peacock hands down, no contest. Not really a fair comparison as a Jack is a saltwater fish than can go pretty big, but we are talking pound for pound.
  16. I have a Clarus 6'6 med 6/12 rod.......excellent.
  17. Agree 100% with South FLA. nothing to add, this says it all.
  18. The rods I fish with have an over the counter lifetime warranty where purchased, exchanged with in minutes, no receipt needed Any where from mfg defect to being a clumsy oaf, no questions asked. I have stepped on the guides and bent them a few times, new rod no hassle. Great rods too! They are not Loomis, but I would buy one.
  19. Say nothing and mind your own business unless asked.
  20. I thought the Shimano forum was a plus, especially for Shimano increasing their exposure. Considering the fact that Shimano is a good size corporation the expense was very little. I do like Shimano products, however never been thrilled with their customer service, so I'm not surprised at all.
  21. I'll play devils advocate...........a belief does not mean the party is guilty, I'm not saying this man is innocent or guilty but has the right to have his day in court just like anyone else. Legal cases are based on evidence not opinions. To decide a person's guilt or innocence based on the way the look is just plain wrong. I've read nothing to indicate that is a court appointed defense attorney for this case, although it well may be.
  22. Xraps are my mainstay and mine get beat up and chipped very fast. One that looks like it's ready for the trash catches as many as a brand new one.
  23. Each business owner has the right to set their company policy and the client was clearly wrong. Personally speaking what I would have done was to diffuse the situation. Realizing that me being the owner I've already spent time, labor and materials working on the video, if the client does not come up with the cash I have nothing to show for what I've done, except a small deposit. Taking a personal check may have gone well with no problems, however if the check was NFS at least I would have legal recourse with a chance of getting my money.
  24. I'm siding with the defense on this one, the case is about the crime and the evidence presented, the tattoos may create preconceived notions about innocence or guilt. That being said, I'm Jewish and I find any Neo Nazi symbol highly offensive, but I don't feel anyone should be denied a proper due process of law, that's our system like it or not. In many countries you are guilty until proven innocent, is that a better system, I think not.
  25. I caught a nice Jack in the surf one morning, happen to have a Boga grip with me so I figured I'd grip it and weigh it. I forgot to put the loop around my wrist and this 12# Jack makes a jump and my hand lost grip on the Boga.........This guy is swimming around with my Boga, I wonder what ever happened to him.
