  1. Hell Michigan is a mecca for magicians, they have many festivals there.
  2. For a cheapo I would look at a Shimano scimitar. Have caught dinks to shark on them, excellent for $29.95, 1 piece available as well. I highly recommend.
  3. I unstillalled and reloaded 7
  4. Anything Bogart or Gable
  5. I have 6 redbones for spinning and I love them. Not the furthest casting rod I've had but great backbone and in saltwater sensitivity isn't the issue, even 5 # dinks slam ya. I buy them at Sports Authority, keep your eyes open for a 20% off sale and an instore coupon of $25 off if you spend more than $100, makes the cost around $60. http://www.redbone.org/rods_info.html
  6. yea but you're a weenie...........lol I use 40# to tie up my tomato plants
  7. Never for my freshwater gear, maybe a drop of oil once a year. My saltwater reels are used everyday and hard. I get them cleaned and lubed professionally about every 6 months, it's all they really need. Worst enemy is sand, and you don't have to drop it on the beach for it to get into your reel, 20 mph winds blow plenty of sand around.
  8. I make no judgement on what anyone else does, it isn't my business and I'm not a marriage counselor. There are 3 sides to every story, your side, his/her side and the truth. Any shortcoming in life that I may have had wouldn't qualify me as an expert in your life. I'm going fishing.
  9. The abu sorons have a braided line slot in the spool and an o ring to keep it place.........an unnecessary gimmick, but it does work. I fill up the entire spool with braid for saltwater and reels with larger line capacity, many topshot but personally I don't care for it. For freshwater a I see no problem in topshotting and you only have to buy small filler spool 100yds or so. Even if you casted 50 yds and had a 50 yard bass run , you just hit the backing and this is a very unlikely scenario.
  10. No problem.........rinse the rod guides and don't for get to rinse the lures, especially spoons.
  11. Power pro may or may not be the best but in my opinion it is not outdated. It works fine with a minimum of issues and it's very strong. I catch fish that are much bigger and stronger than any bass on 10 or 15#. When I'm bass fishing 10# PP handles lily pads, weeds and stumps with no problem, at least not for me. The debate of one line against another or braid vs mono is getting old, it boils down to personal preference, not scientific fact.
  12. I wouldn't do this, the object is to rid your line of the salt, I rinse with freshwater then spray with salt X to remove residue. I use braid on every spinning reel I own, never a line twist issue. I use 10-15-20#(my choice is PP all stores have it, but I don't get all worked up over brand). I would never consider using mono.
  13. 99% is done with spinning fresh and saltwater and gets fished hard. Only opinions on what I have or have owned in the past. Clarus................. great rod at any price Hurricane redbone..best rod I have ever owned, have 6 of them Supreme...............good, light, President...............smooth,well built, better value than supreme Medalist................smoothest of the smooth, bit heavy, workhorse Trion....................ok, for 39 you can't go wrong Cardinal 800's(soron)my everyday reel for tarpon and snook, excellent Cardinal 101...........my frog reel, going strong for 2 years Penn captiva..........P.O.S silverado too, high end Penns are decent Spheros.................very good and stronger drag than stradic Stradic..................best of the best in moderate price range(moderate if you find a deal)
  14. Chris, I have never thrown a 5 oz swimbait, the heaviest thing I throw is a 1 oz spoon or barracuda tubes that I make which may 1.5 oz or so. I use 15 or 20 braid depending on which rod and reel I'm in the mood for that day . Many times when I fish the beach I use 10# or 15# again depending on which rod and reel I want to use. There is only a slight difference in equipment I use. If I can't hear that drag sing, I'm not happy
  15. IMO 50# braid for snook is way too much. The first consideration is where you are fishing, beach, seawall, inlet or freshwater canal. For an all around selection 20# braid is a good choice, too heavy for me as I prefer light tackle and equipment, my pick is 15#. I may go a bit heavier if I'm using bait. Just yesterday I caught about 6 snook 2 tarpon on 15#, I did get cut off a few times but that would have happened with 100# braid, barnacles will cut thru anything. Today I'm going for kingfish and bonita which probably fight harder than a snook and I'm using 20# mono on a conventiional 17#mono on a spinner. The heaviest line I own is 30# and that is use on my shark outfit. IMO if you know how to use the drag properly you do not need heavy line. I prefer a 7 or 7'6 rod.
  16. Freshwater I use a duolock, which does not affect anything except more ease to switch lures, never a snap/swivel. Saltwater I always tie my lure on, I trust my knot more than than a duolock. Lures and spoons I use a loopknot(something that everysaltwater guide I have been with has used) and for jigs I use a cinch knot.
  17. inches per turn control the retrieval speed not the ratio. I just reel faster or slower and never pay attention to ratio.
  18. Great fish..great outing
  19. Leaning over while sitting at the computer causes a lot of my problems.
  20. I doubt there is a real cure, many things you can do as mentioned for temporary relief. I'm 64 with chronic back problem but I'm fortunate to have high pain threshold which I call desire. I go anyway and have never missed a day of fishing, golf or even running my business due to sickness or injury. If you have real injury, see a doctor.
  21. Tides are everywhere ! Most freshwater areas the tide is so minimal it isn't noticeable, but there is a difference. Many tide charts available but personally I have never seen one for inland areas only coastal and the times vary greatly depending on the global geographic area you are in. No such thing as a stupid question that's how we learn.
  22. You're getting more sleep than I am. Up about midnight regardless of bedtime, out the door about 3 or so for snook fishing ( got 4 and a tarpon today)home about 10, then in and out the rest of the day bass fishing. My wife wants to kill me, but I love it, always managed on 4 hours a sleep a day.
  23. I use masking tape and tape it right to the spool with no backing
  24. I have the exact feeling from this forum. A lure like a golf ball, I don't own it long enough to fall in love.
