Laid off
I hate to see this happen to folks. I got laid off from a great job about 3 years ago and just about lost everything we had. I just stayed positive and made the most out of it. The master plan has already been laid out and this is just a test for you. Good luck and I wish you the best!

Richmond Fishing Expo
As long as the work schedule is okay you can count me in on being there. My dad and I travel to these things whenever we can.

Awesome day!!!
DD, I'll be working at the Middle River Regional Jail if I get it. Say a prayer for me. I've now had my surgery. It went just fine. Me being such a big guy the spinal didn't take all the way so they had to use some local anethesia to knock me out. I'm a jokester and I had a blast messin' with the docs and nurses. ;D Anyway, now I have 26 more days off work to recoup and enjoy some time off.

Awesome day!!!
I'll start off by saying I've got surgery scheduled for tomorrow morning to fix a hernea. I'm actually happy that I'll now have off the entire Christmas holiday though. After being happy when I left work that I'll be off for a while I got a phone call on the way home. I finally got an interview with the Sheriffs Department!!! My interview is on 12-22. Not 15 minutes after I get home I look at my email and see I've won something. I was on KVD's website some time back and put my name in on the Plano tackle bag giveaway. Well, I won. I now get the tackle bag and a signed Plano hat from KVD!!! I also have to send in a photo of myself to be posted on his website! I don't know how long it will be before it's on there but I'll be the big guy with the goatee. Just figured I'd share my luck today!

Any central VA clubs?
I'm honestly new to "club" fishing so I don't really know what to look for. I used to have a great fishing partner and he decided to turn his life in a bad direction so we parted our ways. Unfortunately, it's been about 6 years since then and other than the occasional co-worker or my dad I've been fishing alone. Basically, I'm looking to find others that enjoy it as much as I do. I'm planning on making the trip to R'mond for the show.

Pond Pros
1. Zoom SuperFluke 2. Shallow crankbaits 3. Deep crankbaits Of course this all depends on many factors including weather and the makeup of the pond. My 2 perssonal best bass have come from ponds. A 9lb 13oz and a 7lb 8oz.

Quality vs. Quantity
I can't shake the need for something on my line when I get to the water so dinks are the first order of business. After I settle down I get to chasing the bigger bass. This attitude has cost me money many times in tournaments. I'll have a 5 bass limit pretty quick then only have time to get 2-3 nice fish and get beat by a couple pounds. Seems that every tournament I enter that I'm just outside the money. This year I'm gonna focus on big bass. I've got a 9 acre pond with some monsters in it that I'm gonna pick apart this spring.

Any central VA clubs?
I'm chomping at the bit to find a club to fish as a non-boater in until I can get back in a boat. I live in the Shenandoah Valley and there is only one club that I know of over here and all they do is 2 day tournaments. That's fine once in a while but I have two young kids and I honestly don't have the money to fork over for a hotel room plus tournament fees every other weekend. If any of you know of one let me know.

What gets you going in the morning?
I LOVE those morning when I wake up and hear the robins chirping outside my window just before daylight. I know a good day is coming when this happens.

Lake Anna
If you guys ever need a backseat filled I can be there any weekend. Since I sold my boat I've only made a couple trips there. I'd even be willing to give up some of my little sweet spots over there.

Is it possible?....FINALS WEEK THREAD
I'm just down the road from JMU at Blue Ridge Community College working on my AAS in Administration of Justice.

Lake Anna
I never fish it much in the summer due to the boat traffic but I love it in the spring and fall. I've been skunked there many times but I've had many awesome days on the water there too.

Lake Anna
Sounds great! I've been thinking about making it down to the Expo. I've got surgery scheduled for next week so I'm not making any permanent plans till I find out how good the pain meds work. ;D

Lake Anna
I'm new on here so I'll probbly have lots of questions for a while. I was just wondering how many Lake Anna regulars are on here. I've fished Anna on a regular basis for about 13 years now. If you've seen a green and white Nitro 700lx it may have been me. I always put in at Sturgeon Creek Marina.

Cool fishing story.
I found this online on foxnews this morning... BUNA, Texas A class ring lost for decades in an East Texas lake is back with its owner after turning up in a fish caught the day after Thanksgiving. Joe Richardson of Buna told The Associated Press on Wednesday that he wishes he knew "how many fish it's been in." Richardson was fishing at Lake Sam Rayburn about two weeks after his 1987 graduation from Universal Technical Institute in Houston when he lost the ring. The 41-year-old mechanic says on Nov. 28 received a call from a fisherman who had reeled in a more than 8-pound bass. The ring that had been in the fish had "Joe Richardson" etched in the band. Richardson says the fisherman did an Internet search and made several calls before reaching him and returning the ring. Buna is about 110 miles northeast of Houston.

Sad day
I love looking at the positive on things. My last fishing trip which was about three weeks ago. I went to a lake about thirty miles from my house that I grew up fishing. It's loaded with nice bass but access there is VERY restricted so you can now only fish the dam portion from the bank. Anyway, it was chilly with a stiff breeae so I decided to throw a crankbait. I caught a couple dinks then worked my way near the spillway. This area is choked with brush and timber. I didn't get anything in this area for a while then finally caught a couple more dinks. I finally decided it was time to head home so I said one more cast. I cast and my bait just stopped in the water. I thought I was hung up on a log with my crankbait until I felt it move. I pulled and released at least ten times and it finally came out. I fought hard and I finally saw it. It was by far my biggest bass. My previous biggest is 9lb 13oz and I estimate this one was in the 12-14lb range. Needless to say it thrashed it's head about 10 feet from the bank and threw the bait. Of course I was disgusted but I just smiled and packed up my stuff. It was my last cast till I can catch a warm day over the winter and it was definatly one to remember. I'll get her during pre-spawn when she's gained a couple pounds.

What's going on in NoVA? =D
I'm not in NoVa but I've had the itch to get out too. The water temps are so cold over here in the valley it's nearly impossible to get a bite.

I figure I'll make my first post here introducing myself. My name is Mike Thornton and I live here in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley. Right now I do the majority of my bass fishing on the banks here locally. I had a Nitro till last fall and couldn't afford it anymore with my 2nd child coming. I'm hoping to have something by spring though. I've been lurking on this board off and on for a while and figured I'd finally register. Seems to be a bunch of decent folks on here. BTW, if any of you need any company on a fishing excursion just give me a yell and I'll be right there. Cabin fever is already taking it's toll this fall. :'(
