I think you missed the point that he wants a fishing boat he can use as a family boat. A boat that would treat him well on multiple bodies of water. While there is no perfect boat for all situations, he should buy the boat that satisfies the majority of situations. @J Francho I don't think I'd consider a bay boat for the Great Lakes, and if I did, it certainly wouldn't be a Skeeter. When I bought my Lund, I wanted a boat that could handle Lake Michigan a handful of times a year. Not a boat that would see Lake Michigan weekly. If you like the BW, go for it. The BW and the GW I mentioned are "crossover" boats for lack of a better term. A little bit of inshore and a little bit of offshore. And if a storm rolls up 2 miles out or 20 miles out, you need a boat that will get you home safe. I got caught in a storm on Lake Michigan in my dad's 26' Pro Line (BTW another brand to consider) that I thought would have been the end for both myself and my son(he was maybe 6 or 7 years old at the time). The waves were every bit of 8ft, maybe more for the last mile of the ride back to the marina. Were I in the Lund, my son and I would have been dead.

Don't fish in the rain?

A standard bay boat is similar to a Lund in hull design as far as deadrise and freeboard. While it can handle big water, it's not going to handle it comfortably. I've done 25mph winds in Sturgeon Bay in the Lund and it is absolutely miserable. 25mph on my home water is a piece of cake. The GW has been on my radar for some time. Robalo is a little more family orientated which is why I brought it up.

Can't go wrong with Whaler, Robalo, or my preferred choice Grady White. Take a look at the GW 251 CE Now that MK has a 72" shaft option for a TM, no reason not to. My Lund is still for sale. I'm mulling around getting a 20' Ranger MS or Triton Allure boat because the Grady isn't practical for the bulk of the fishing I do now. That being said, I'm open for a change of venue and fishing Lake Michigan more often. I do have a grandson now which is the main reason I'm looking for another boat.

2 charges is not a big deal, I have a 3 bank and a single bank. Both are Dual Pro professional series and have been worry free for 7 seasons.

Are the work and the drama worth it? I would start with the local DNR looking into permits and dates. As far as finding interest, talk to guys on the lake and at the ramp. Put up some flyers in the tackle shops and boat dealers. Post on social media etc.

The psychological aspect of the injury was as difficult to get through as the physical. You spend your entire life making a living with your hands and then poof! Prior to the 3rd surgery, I couldn't spend more than a couple hours on the water without being in severe pain. I stopped fishing tournaments. After the 3rd surgery it took about a year, but I can do 6-8 hours throwing a jig or worm, without being too uncomfortable. If I throw crankbaits for more than an hour without switching it up, my arm will fatigue to the point where I can't even lift it. I do a good amount of live bait fishing as well which works out. I have an 80 year old father and a 3 year old grandson who use nothing but live bait.

In a previous life I was a journeyman pipefitter UA Local 597. More specifically a commercial refrigeration mechanic. Back in 2012 I suffered a career ending injury after a piece of equipment came off the ceiling of a cooler and took my left arm with it. 3 surgeries and the left shoulder and arm, on a good day, are probably at 40% of what they should be. Today, I sell commercial and industrial hvac/r controls and parts to pipefitters and provide technical support.

Keep at it. I'm convinced attitude has a lot to do with recovery. My mother went thru chemo last year for a rare form of cancer. She went into sepsis shock, almost died, and claims she did. She contracted the sepsis from the catheter in her heart where they were administering the chemo. Knock on wood, she is cancer free although, still feeling the effects of the chemo 4 months after the last treatment. Get out and enjoy yourself and your family.

My dream was to have a sugar momma and be her boy toy.....that didn't work out so well. I had an opportunity to marry rich twice but my conscience got the best of me both times. Call up https://www.transducershieldandsaver.com/ and see if he has a suggestion for a spring back bracket for your specific transducer, I don't see that he offers one specific to garmin on his website. I have my Humminbird SI transducer mounted on a TSS spring back bracket. if you beach or hit a log, it pops up and then back down to prevent damage to the transducer. I broke off 2 SI transducers on my previous boat not using the bracket. I'm 7 years now with a spring back bracket and 7 years without breaking one off.

A map card is only as good as the data that was inputted at the time it was inputted with the coordinates it was inputted. A lot of map cards were made based on coordinates when impoundments were first formed, flooded etc. Things change over time, especially on rivers and river systems. I expect a map card to get me close. No more, no less. Might be disappointing to you but I have Ipilot Link and Lakemaster cards. I can "follow the contour" with the link, but if the cards aren't accurate, what does it matter? With the newer technology, you can map your own lake. I would trust that more than the $150 generic card you can buy. As I said, I'm happy if I can just get close.
