  1. How many here have the first bait with which you caught your first largemouth? I was given a crankbait called and Angel Eye, brand unknown, and the first day out with that bait I caught 7 largemouth. This was back in 1980. If you'll notice It's a squarebill. All 7 came from less than four feet of water. It's the bait In the lower right hand corner.
  2. I'll leave the back story out of this. I decided at the last minute to go fishing and having been sick the entire week I wasn't as prepared as I usually am. We were taking his boat and Instead of throwing all my stuff in the Jeep the night before, I decided to load up the next morning. I decided to take the car Instead of the Jeep that morning and as I detest being late I hurriedly loaded my gear in the car and took off. I stopped and got us both a biscuit and drove to his house. As I was walking around the car I noticed my worm bags and a sweatshirt were still in the trunk. My heart sank. I looked inside the car hoping against hope that my tackle bag was Inside. Of course It wasn't. I told him to meet me at the ramp in an hour as I was going to back track and try to find my tackle bag and if I didn't I would have to go back to the house and and load up another. I didn't find the bag, went back to the house and put together a few things and headed to the ramp. I was heartsick as I had just lost close to $300.00 worth of gear. As I got on the boat, not In the best of moods mind you, I bent over to put my rods down and *plop* my new $60.00 sunglasses slid right off my hat into the water and I watched them slowly sink out of sight. We had an OK day on the water but It was difficult to really enjoy things because of my carelessness. I took two Important things away from the day. I ALWAYS have my gear ready the night before and loaded in my boat or the truck and the other Is to leave yourself plenty of time to do It right the first time.

  11. Thanks Clayton and Shane! These types of tips are what makes this the best site of Its kind on the 'net! Edit: I'll speak only for me; It used to be If I found something I liked I tended to stay In that box without ever, or rarely, went outside what I knew. As I've gotten older and fish more by myself or with my wife I have tried many, many, types of presentations. It was fun to simply try. The point being this: If you want to try something outside the norm the only thing that can be lost Is time. It's worth It. Also, NEVER stop learning and be open to presentations, rigging, retrieves, etc., that may be considered outside the norm.
  12. Clayton, Is there a specific reason you rig your trailer vertically?

  17. I guess I'm showing my age here. I grew up eating Bluefish and everytime I go home(coastal NC) I always try to smoke a bluefish or 10. I like them fried also but a smoked Bluefish Is hard to beat.
  18. I like these shakeyheads http://www.siebertoutdoors.com/Zenith-Shake-Head-436.htmbecause the can be fished in any was I choose. They have durn near replaced the t-rig. I usually throw a variety of plastics on them but the top three producers are a Zoom finesse worm, a Zoom 4" dead ringer, and a R.I. smallie beaver.
  19. Merry Christmas to you and your family Mike!
