  1. 20-25 Pline CXX or Maxima Ultragreen. Both are stretchy and have memory but they won't let you down when you hook the one fish that you're fishing for.
  2. So.... About those Fury rods that aren't out yet?
  3. I use 12 lb or 10 lb Sunline Sniper. Just a confidence thing in that line overall. 8-12 lb mono/co-poly is just fine as well.
  4. Large challenge not being able to fish a rod beforehand. I will be happy to report on the rod after I have actually fished it. I've held it and it felt good, but so does just about any rod off the shelf nowadays ya know?
  5. I think I'm the only real Dobyns fan who is bothering to reply to you. I know that you think you are "winning" but not many people are taking what you say seriously. Especially anyone who has read multiple threads that you've posted on. So when someone comes on to look at a thread as a new member or asks a question, your posting background is pretty well covered by other members now. Who has said that it is worse? Any news on it? What does your reply have to do with this person's question? Sooo... About those questions I asked? From what you have directly said you have used a 745dx to throw a frog... Used it for 30 minutes and couldn't stand it. Other than that a lot of the guys in your club think they are over priced. That's about it. Savvy rods feel just fine to me when I am fishing a jig or a heavy dropshot and need to feel with them. I have never been able to figure out what "dead" means when referring to a rods feeling so I'm in the dark on not being able defend them in that regard. I think the slower actions may cause people to feel like the rods aren't as sensitive... I really don't know. Kind of like trying to fish a jig on a graphite crankbait rod... The rod would still be sensitive but wouldn't feel anywhere near as sensitive as say an extra fast graphite rod. But I will argue that the savvy is nowhere near garbage as some reviewers seem to think it is because I just don't think it is true.
  6. Just the May release date at this point and the rod models listed on the website.
  7. Who has said that it is worse? Any news on it? What does your reply have to do with this person's question?
  8. It is my personal favorite fluoro. Tatsu is all I have personally used that is better, and I can't justify the price difference PERSONALLY.
  9. I watched an interview with Mark Daniels Jr. who finished in I believe 9th or something around there, somewhere in the top 10. He mentioned he mainly fished on Kissimmee. He used braid on one of his main rods, and fluoro on the remainder. I don't see too many guys lying blatantly about line or what they're using. Really braid is more expensive anyway even though it tends to last a bit longer if you don't retie much or go through much cover. I know a lot of things for me come down to confidence, I think that is what a lot of it comes down to as well. I didn't hear much talk of the water clarity if that may have played a factor. I also know some of the fishermen on the tour/elite level refer to braid making more "sound" when going through grass. Not sure if I agree with that yet, but some have spoken about it in the past, including changes from braid to fluoro from one day to another during the tournament.
  10. Don't your rods balance well with your Revo Gen 3 Premier at 5.9 ounces and your Revo MGX at 5.4 ounces? I thought your 804c and 805cb felt light with them? I don't use that light of reels very often so I don't really have much of an answer about the balance.
  11. Get one to try out first and I believe you'll be impressed and end up ordering the rest of the rods you need. Which techniques do you tend to fish most during the summer months?
  12. May I ask what color the 3rd from the bottom is on the left side? Might be pro blue but it looks very light? Thanks in advance. Great box of baits to get bit on!
  13. Didn't Duckett come out with his rods in 2010? Or was that just when he introduced them?
  14. Which model did you plan on getting?
  15. This first post was perfect. The end! haha
  16. As long as the reel is comfortable in your hand it is an awesome reel! I know some people who have tried it and it is just not comfortable for them. Try it in a store and if it is comfortable I say go for it!
  17. Anything where my line is going to be going slack and be under the water I personally just can't stand braid. If it is on top or I am going to have a tight line... (controlled slack when flipping, steady retrieve baits like cranks, spinnerbaits or a buzzbait or frog on top) I love braid. That is the way I personally can and can't do it. I really used to hate braid then kind of got used to it after a bit. I love the fact it is zero stretch and that is awesome for the way I like to do things.
  18. 7'6-8' rod with the fastest reel I have. I like to be able to pick up as much line as possible using a long rod and fast reel and once a fish is hooked (my style is) keep as much pressure on the fish as possible which becomes a lot more work with a slower reel. I will cast the rig a lot or drag it and have a lot of line out. There are a lot of times that a fish eats and comes directly at the boat, if I can keep my rod loaded up I have a lot better odds of the fish staying hooked. Just my experiences here.
  19. Of those two in any model I would definitely go for the St. Croix.
  20. I can't say anything about best as I haven't used em all but the best one for me has been a Dobyns Extreme 795dx with a Tatula Type R 8.0:1 with 70 lb samurai braid. I felt unstoppable with this setup. Helped us to catch the following:
  21. rattle baits, glide baits, here and there on a rig.
  22. Dobyns Champion Extreme or Dobyns Champion lines. I don't have a single specific rod I like best. When spending that amount of money I want the rod to do a specific job and do it as well as possible. I'm not happy fishing with something "that works" for that price. I'm not going to fish a frog on my most expensive, sensitive under-powered rod in the line, that's just plain stupid. I couldn't care less what a rod looks like, or if it feels "dead" whatever in the heck that is supposed to mean. I want to be able to feel a bite, hook a fish, and land it without worrying about breaking a rod. I seem to be able to do that with my rods without any issues. That is what I care about it and I keep it simple. There are a lot of good rods out there and I think some of them are sorely overpriced. The $100-$200 price-range is getting pounded right now and is by far the most popular with the best value. I know Dobyns isn't the hot new rod anymore and it will fade in popularity, but there is a reason they have a loyal following and people might be a little surprised about who is not on staff that they think is.
  23. I'm not an expert on them but I do have one and have used it for around 6 full days now. They're a great reel... As are the regular tatula and the tatula type R. I only have the 7:1 in the regular and the HD as well as the 8:1 in the Type R. The reels feel the same basically... You have a little longer handle with the HD as pointed out previously. 100mm vs 90mm. The spool is listed as deeper and for some reason seems wider to me in my hand. Overall as long as the reel is comfortable in your hand with the way you hold it, I say go for em.
  24. What type of info?
