  1. Anytime, hope you enjoy it. I really love mine.
  2. Would a photo showing the flex of the 764c vs 734c vs 736c help at all? I have the three at my house now, I could have a photo for ya in a few hours here if that would help you at all. I don't have a 735 at home to compare it to, I'm sorry.
  3. I have one. This is going to be tough to answer for me so I'm going to do my best, I think it can also depend on what you're comfortable with in a rod. This rod is probably the heaviest action rod I've used that is not a flipping stick or made for a frog. I mainly use the rod for big buzzbaits now (double blade 1 ounce) that is my favorite thing to use it for. I've used it for chatterbaits and it is a bit "stiff" for me. It is entirely different from the 734 and has MUCH more power. Personally, I find the 764 to be around the same strength of the 735... maybe a BIT stronger, but not by too much. I've used it for bed fishing with braid as well and I actually loved it for that. I'm trying to remember if I've ever done any pitching to cover with it or anything like that. My initial thought is if I can land some of the fish in and around grass that I have on a buzzbait and even a frog in a pinch, you'd be ok to flip grasslines with it. I'm sorry I can't give a super definitive answer but in simple words I think the rod would work for flipping 3/4 to 1 oz weights. If you'd like another opinion you can always contact Dobyns rods direct.
  4. I am with the other two posters, 735 would be my choice here! The 734 Champion is a bit slower, great rod in my opinion for spooks, spinnerbaits and chatterbaits. The 735 is a bit faster overall, would still be a versatile rod, and not overpowering for football jigs. To echo another poster, with you mentioning heavy cover the 735 is definitely the choice. The little extra power will help you keep a fish controlled around cover. Hope this helps!
  5. Sorry man, my last line of my post was a bit misleading. You were one of the two responses I was trying to refer to that had used both. Thanks for making the post for the OP, that's what keeps this board going!
  6. The bass pro shops crankin' stick was always a favorite of mine when I was on a lower budget! I don't think you'd be disappointed! I was in bass pro the other day and had to pick one up to feel it in store, still had the same cool feeling!
  7. 16 is one of my favorites! It's such a thin line it doesn't feel like you're fishing with a 15/16lb test line. I use it a lot for my jigs in open water/rocky situations. Also for things like chatterbaits, some squarebill cranks, spinnerbaits and a heavy dropshot in cover or around docks and grass!
  8. Thanks for the suggestion but I have plenty of confidence in sniper!
  9. If you're getting a guide on the delta BOBBY BARRACK is the only one to get. If you're looking at Clear Lake, Matt Allen and John Pearl are good options.
  10. I prefer 7lb Sniper. Used it a while ago and just liked it enough I've never wanted to switch. Have a buddy who uses the invizx a lot and has a lot of weird break offs... still uses it haha which I don't know why but I'm a big fan of Sniper. I've caught largemouth up to 11lbs on it, and spots up to 6.8, as well as a 15lb largemouth caught on my boat with it. I believe it is thinner than the invisx in 6lb if I remember correctly.
  11. I can't help you with experience with the Loomis. I think the responses you're going to get on this thread will be either leaning heavy one way or the other. So far you have only been given two answers that covers things about both rods. You might just have to go off of your own personal feel on this one as it doesn't seem like many people have really used both. Loomis has built a name in fishing overall and that includes bass fishing. I hope someone comes along that can give you experiences with both.
  12. Come on, the only use fluoro because they're getting paid for it! No benefit to them! They get paid so much from their sponsors they don't care if their lines snaps easy, they're drinking the kool-aid! For those who can't tell, I'm kidding. For some people, fluorocarbon works. For some people, braid with a leader. For some people, mono or co-poly. I guess I can appreciate the OP for trying to save people money and change the mindset. But I see a lot of "oh this guy is getting paid to use this, that's the only reason they use it" stuff, and really, there's not very much of that going on. Not much money being thrown around for using a product anymore.
  13. While I can't be sure how the Fury rod will be in comparison to the Champion, I can reply based on using a Champion 705cb graphite. I use this rod for my 1.5 and 2.5 squarebills. I know some people would prefer a 704cb for their 1.5 size but I'm not as concerned with casting a bait and the whole "tip loading" ordeal as I am with hooking a fish and landing a fish. I don't throw the shadow rap baits but I see that their weight is the same as a Lucky Craft Staysee 90. The rod I personally use for that is the 704cb, however I don't feel the 705cb is overpowered at all for it, and will suit you just fine when throwing that bait. I know a lot of people actually prefer the 705cb for their topwater uses... I personally use a 734c myself, but if I couldn't use that rod for some reason, I would be very happy with the 705cb for my walking baits and topwaters. The 705cb is the rod I recommend around here (Northern and Central California) as an all use treble hook bait rod. I think it's a very versatile starting point for crankbait rods. The only I wouldn't consider it ideal for would be deep diving crankbaits, however it will still get the job done. We have lakes where a ripbait is going to be primarily what you throw, and our grass bodies of water where a squarebill crank is a primary technique. When I'm recommending a rod that can do both of those duties for someone, I recommend the 705cb. I know a lot of people who have been very happy with it, I hope you are too.
  14. Is this based on a steady pull or a "snap" type pull? Sorry I didn't go through and read all of the sources and tests. Sorry, just read Tim Kelly's post, about the 100%. my mistake, I don't like to delete posts though!
  15. Another vote for favorite light dropshot rod!
  16. Just going to echo here, the 734 would be awesome.
  17. Here's some information that may make some folks excited, I know it does for me. There is only one thing I am not sure about, but I had though that in the past they had trailered boats at a ramp and then drove the fish/boats over to an arena or auditorium to weigh the fish. Now, I am being very optimistic here, but I will admit I would absolutely love to see a classic out here. I know the West Coast has earned a bad reputation with some people and I certainly don't blame them. One thing is for sure, some fans out here really, really, really love bass fishing. One thing that is happening in Sacramento is we are getting a new sports arena for our Kings franchise, which will be located in downtown Sacramento right off of I5 our major interstate through the entire state. Now, I would NOT want to see them go out of Sacramento again. To me I was honestly a bit scared for the safety of these guys, I know they're beyond experienced drivers but I heard a few horror stories of killswitches coming off and guys almost going out of the boat from unexpected wakes and what not. What we have is about 45 minutes away, a large launch ramp where we could launch the boats and possibly (once again in a perfect world) trailer them back to Sacramento's arena. Just thinking out loud here but that's some "local" info that may change some minds or get others more excited! I know I would be!
  18. I know the uni-uni works well and for lots of people. I could never tie it well personally. I use the Alberto/modified albright, absolutely love it and I've never had a knot fail. I hate saying and typing that haha, feel I might jinx it! My advice is practice tying a knot you like and get confidence in it.
  19. My favorite rod to flip and pitch with is a Dobyns 795dx... I put a Tatula Type R on it last year, it's worked great for me and I can't believe the price. 70lb braid is what I finish it up with.
  20. I know that it will. Our grass here is rather heavy. Brett Hite has won in Florida and won on our Delta. He has said they fish similarly as far as grass and "cover" including tules or buggy-whips. The 766 will do it's job hooking a fish, and being able to get it out of wherever you can put a 3/4-2oz weight. Without being rude to anyone, if you're not able to get a fish out of something this would be a situation where it is not the rod's fault. Have full confidence, even the big Florida fish will be under control in heavy Florida grass.
  21. I would personally want the Curado I in the 7:1 ratio... I want the reel as fast as I can get when I'm throwing a frog.
  22. Not 100% sure but it looks a lot like the madman craws that used to be made.
  23. haha, she got the hang of it after a bit... She does set the hook, I tell her to swing as hard as she can haha. She did miss A LOT of fish at first... maybe hooked 1 in 5 or so. Now it is up to about 2 or 3 out of 5. Seems bad, but she really likes that better than gut-hooking every fish on a senko. I just keep it that way as she enjoys it most that way.
  24. Some of the best times I've had have been while my girlfriend throws a horny toad on a spinning rod with braid. She just casts it out and reels it, game over. She really enjoys watching them bite, and I think anyone starting out enjoys that more.
  25. The flatside has been much more popular from what I've heard.
