  1. I felt the same way I don't really think of it as a sacrafice. I do enjoy seeing posts like this and the thanks I get when I'm out in uniform going to or from the armory. Gives me a warm feeling if ya know what I mean. I enlisted 3 years ago cuz all my friends are in. I took flack from my family for going the infantry route when I could do some thing else safer instead I chose the front line dangerous mos. To me its just a job I signed on the line and started doing my part and plan on being a lifer. But on the same side I run into people who are the complete oppisite as you who give thanks and apreciation and actualy despise what we do id like to strangle these people lol. It's the infantry, and the grunts who are the backbone of the service's. Be proud that your doing what you do. Much props to you. 8-)
  2. It also costs and arm and a leg... ;D Depends on where you buy it, has come down in price. I get the 150 yd spools, bought one from here for 15.00..
  3. Rick, fish the ranger / paddle boat lake. Throw suspending jerk baits..
  4. And a good guide never hurts, aye Mike..? ;D Greg
  5. Diawa Samurai braid retains most of the green color, no sharpies needed.
  6. X2....Very solid workhorse. Probably the most dependable reels I've ever had but out of his budget. Unless you buy one used. They are priced very reasonable, and below what his budget is. Bought mine from a member here, the reel was like new for less than 70.00 8-)
  7. X a zillion...Thanks for all that you do. And RIP to those that gave the ultimate. God Bless you all.
  8. Not much love for us Lefty users, in fact none in the 7:1 reels... :
  9. Being that diesel is about 4.40 a gal..I don't make the longer drives to certain lakes like I did last year.. >
  10. X 2, although, I sometimes use my Castaic reel, it has a flippin switch, but I never use it, and I wouldn't choose a reel just cause it has a flippin switch. Oh, and choose a reel that feels good to you. I had an extrem, not sure that would be my first choice.
  11. I prefer a sweet beaver in the mud color on a white jig...they get bit. Any other trailer color just doesn't seem to get the big girls playin..
  12. Northland makes em with painted blades too.
  13. I've tried colored blades, white trout colors, chartreuse, ect...seems the bass around here only like gold willow blades..lol That's not to say you can't catch fish on colored blades, best to buy one and try it.
  14. i use my freshwater reels to fish the salt, and have accidentally dipped them in saltwater, as stated above, I rinse them off after use, they work fine. I do a minor clean and lube once a week on them though.
  15. I take mine to Long Fin..again, supporting the local guys..cause I buy most of my rods and reels from them. 8-)
  16. I use my 2500 Sharah, and Stradic in the salt for fishing for bay bass, hali's ect. Just rinse em off with fresh water, and clean them more often. I use mine at least once a week in the salt, and a couple times in fw.
  17. I'd also recommend that you at least contact Shimano, they are pretty cool about replacing rods, after all, what do you have to lose..?
  18. I had a neighbor that had 2 lmb, each about 2 to 3 lbs. He had them in a 125 gal tank, all they did was suspend. I agree re: the Oscars, great fish, use to breed them, mine would eat out of my hand. The pair I had were about 10" to 11" long, had them in a 150 gal tank. For 1 oscar, a 55 gal would be bare min..75 would be better. On edit: In some states it's illegal to transport game fish, unless you get a permit.
  19. First time I've ever had a kid mouh off to me. Don't know what you're use to, but it's obviously different than what I'm accustomed to. X2 If I'da said something like to an adult when I was young, I'd a got the taste slapped outta my mouth. Parents nowadays should be required to take a test before they can have offspring..
  20. 6" flat tail roboworm, a Senco would be a very close second.
  21. I've used a 2 pc rod for a bunch of things, but never for flipping, I think I would stick to a 1 pc rod, that's just me.
  22. I see. Btw, if you want to fish Castaic, Rich Tauber is a good choice. His # is 818-439-1154 He also has a website RichTauberFishing.com
  23. Rods: Shimano & Dobyns Reels: All Shimano Line: Yozuri Ultrasoft & Diawa Samurai braid Hard baits: 3:16, Mattlures Soft baits: Huddelston, 3:16, GYBC and Reaction. Storage: Whatever boxs are cheap.
  24. Why long beach..? lol There aren't any really good lakes close by, unless you call a 1 1/2 hr drive close. Art Berry guides at Diamond Valley Lake, he's one the best at that lake. In the opposite direction, there's Castaic lake, there's a few good guides that could put you on fish, on the big lake or the lagoon, just google Castaic lake, and the guides will be listed. There are other lakes, but are further away, and or, not that great to fish at imho. BTW, I use to live in Long Beach.. ;D
  25. Fish it by the trees on the west side. I prefer a strike King pure poison in the bluegill pattern. Just don't let it hit the bottom..
