  1. Fishing with a frog imho almost demands braid, especially in vegetation. Now, I'm a fan of mono but with your mh rod, I would go with braid, and at least 50 lb. Reason being that you need to get those hooks to penetrate the fish's skin, mono has to much stretch to make that happen, where as braid has no stretch, hence more power to set the hook. As for walking a frog, you don't always need to walk it, but if your inclined to do so, great. Be kinda hard to do that on a solid surface like a pad. I've caught plenty of bass with out walking my frogs, but I don't just chuck and wind, stop and go, small twitches will impart some action on the frog, just try what works best for you.
  2. 12 to 14 lb mono for lures that weigh what the super spook weighs.
  3. Throw it anywhere that there isn't thick vegetation on the surface. If the vegetation is a foot under the surface, you can work it over the top of it.
  4. Also, skipping can imitate a fleeing bait fish. I often skip in open water, you would be surprised at the action you can get by doing it.
  5. Keep in mind, that high tide is the best time to fish. An outgoing or low tide makes for some very tough fishing. Also, maybe try another bait.?
  6. There are NO secret spots in so. cali, especially in the L.A. area.
  7. Ummm, the OP hasn't been on here since 2018...;)
  8. I think I snagged a swimbait on that tree there..
  9. Never carry cash unless I need to buy diesel for my truck, as cash is 10 cents cheaper per Gal. than using a debit, or credit card.
  10. I only cut school twice, and that was to go Surfing. Wasn't into fishing back then.
  11. With the up rise in fishing lately, could it be possible that any giants being caught are kept on the low down. ? We know what happened at Dixon when the news of Dottie being caught got out.
  12. I don't even own a WP, so there...haha
  13. Need more trout plants...
  14. Also, try a whacky rigged Senco, weightless.
  15. Just to add to all the above good advice. Some days the fish will pull the frog down by the legs, it happens, you win some, you lose some. Like the others have said, if the frog disappears, swing for the fences. If they constantly short strike and changing the cadence doesn't help, then downsize. Having a Stout rod helps too.
  16. A Tiny fluke works well on a drop shot, 3" long, and has great action. There are other similar types of these baits that you can use as well.
  17. Just a fwiw, I use to fish Lake Piru when the docks had a good 1/2 inch of ice on them, and caught my fair share of bass, so yeah, it was Cold.
  18. This may sound Crazy, but when was time for my Son to get his DL, I took him to a huge deserted parking lot. I laid out a route for him, with an added bonus, I told when I shouted right or left, he had to imagine evading a car that may have caused an accident. I also told him that by evading, he may cause an accident if he made the wrong move. What this did was, it heightened his reaction time, and made him aware of just how quick things can go wrong, and also when driving, to expect the unexpected. Now at 47, he's never had an accident, which I'm pretty proud of. Give your young'un some credit, kids nowadays are pretty dang smart.
  19. Personally, I don't see an advantage using tungsten for a drop shot. For other applications, yes.
  20. Welcome to BR. Here's a link to the sites bass fishing articles, great reading for new anglers. https://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_articles.html
  21. I had full cast on my right arm, that rendered it useless for 3 months, so I can sympathize with you re: wiping your butt.. Glad your back on the water, take it slow. I've injuries that I didn't let heal, i.e. doing things against Doc's orders, now I'm paying for it.
  22. Yes, you can. I fished out of one in both the salt and fresh water. If your going to have a look at them, check out the Fat Cat float tube, cost's more, but well worth it.
