From what I have read the t series rod is a redesigned Tierra rod. If that's te case then it's a good rod as I have 3 Tierra's with no complaints. It seems the t series is a im7 vs im6 for the Jupiter. As others have mentioned be careful if you get one from Wally world.

There's alot of good choices that have been mentioned. PQ, Citica, Lews are all fine reels. Also consider Pflueger. Although they don't get a ton of love from this site it is still a fine reel. I have 4 of them and they work flawlessly. Pflueger will also be closer to the abu line since they have the same parent company (pure fishing). For the revo SX line i would check out the Pflueger President as a good comparison.

I don't see any that i would vote on for clear water. I would go with a green pumpkin or watermelon or pumpkin seed for color. the jig head would be green or brown and as far as size that really depends more on depth than anything for me. Shallow = 1/4-3/8 and Deep = 1/2-1oz

Sounds like i will be ok..the rod is rated for 3/8oz-1 1/2oz , where we fish there is considerable current so i wanted to use heavier weight. I put on a 3/16 weight and 1/4 weight last night and it casted fine for what we do. I was just worried that the heavier power might rip the hooks out of their mouths. Thanks guys!!

First golf tournament 1860... First Bass fishing tournament 1955... Golf has almost 100 years on fishing tournament wise. It's easy to hold golf tourneys all over the country or world only being a week apart not so much with fishing. And then there is the international appeal of golf. Much more people around the world at golf as a recreation. Golf also has a much Longer season so the sponsors get a longer exposure time Good topic and I love to see some more replies. I've been playing golf since I was about 5 had numerous junior accoplisments as well as adult money tourneys. Fishing I've only been in 3 years and fished 3 tournies so I am defianatley more knowledgeable on the golf side vs fishing but those are just some of my perspectives.

Yea I thought about that but i figured it's a subject more about the rod than the fish. An the mods can always move it if it's in the wrong spot.

I've gotten into kayak fishin and found that I prefer to use bait casters to spinning rods. My delimma is that one of the rods I want to use is a 6'6" heavy power daiwa tierra rod. I will be using it for only soft plastics and I will be fishing in a river system with little grass/cover. Do you think the heavy power rod is to much for the smallmouth?

So basically i go out with the wife and kids in the afternoon so they can relax and swim. It gives me an opportunity to get a line wet while we are out. The problem is that they do not want to be near houses and more offshore which limits the good areas that i can fish. Also once we are in a spot we stay there, so running and gunning is out. The forecast is for sunny and hot (97) with winds 5-8mph. This is a clear lake (lake murray) with little vegetation and visibility is about 10ft. I have marked our take off with the red circle. So where would you go if you had to pick one spot away from shore to fish?

i tried most brands and although they work well and never had a problem, i have settled into the H2O brand from Academy.

I would like to try the KVD Sexy dawg baits. probably the smaller one to start. Might just have to go get on of those things.....thanks smalljaw you just cost me 7.99...

Why not just point the tip of the rod toward the lure on the retrieve? Then you won't have to worry about it bending unless there's a fish on.

The two things that you want to fish for are on opposite ends of the spectrum. You will probably need 2 different set ups one for each kind of fishing . If you can only have one set up and want to keep it inexpensive (as much as you can without sacrificing a whole lot of quality) the get a 2500 spinning reel and a 6'-7' medium power spinning rod. Something like this http://www.basspro.c...10205073/138696 you will be a little overpowered for bluegill and a little under powered for catfish but it should work if you can't have 2 rigs.
