Rage Hawg is good. I have been rigging it like any other creature bait.

Will more expensive rods and reels catch you more fish? Probably not. But in the long scheme of things will they show better quality over time? For sure.

From my experience, most crankbaits work about the same in the large scale of things, other than different depths. I would look at what depths you are fishing and get one or two different crankbaits for that depth.

I would love to see you make a post similar to this about the Space Monkey.

I haven't used in of their hooks, but I absolutely love their crankbaits!

I've done both. I really can't tell a difference in the quality of the baits from doing either. If you fish frequently, then it's likely that you will use your plastics before you are going to need to worry about them going bad.
