  1. Tall order for a decent hard swimbait. You could get some of the hollow swimbaits that run 7-10 dollars a bag and the hooks that are way over priced.
  2. I've got one tied on right now. I like them pretty well. I use mine for a lot of close flipping in heavy stuff.
  3. Im glad someone posted about these. Ive got my eye on the 6'9" MH spinning rod for shakey head applications as well as other finesse type techiniques.
  4. How have you guys learned to fish over the years? Just curious. I got started around the age of two with the usual kiddie pole. I think I had a Donald Duck AND a Mickey Mouse. I would fish with my mom, dad, uncle, grandpa, just whoever. I didnt fish for a few years but around 1997-1998 my grandpa got a little 9' basshound abd we picked fishing back up. At that point I was around 5 years old fishing for whatever would bite crawlers. Eventually I got to use new stuff like GlowBait, mealworms, minnows, and a few artificials. That was what everyone in my family had fished with. I did that for a few years and progressively went from spincasters to light spinning gear then up to a little heavier spinning gear for when I would get to bass fish, which wasn't often, but I was in to trout fishing at the time. The more I bass fished the more I liked it but my techniques were very limited. The fishermen in my family fished for what would bite but I started wanting to get bass. I think my true love for bass fishing began when I would get little lures from WallMart and go and catch dinks with them. That was a blast. My grandpa even got in on it so together we evolved our fishing and learned more and more about using artificials as fish catching tools. In 2002-2003 I purchased my first baitcaster... and took it back. The little $30 Shakespear wasnt a good idea for a 10 year old. I didnt try baitcasters again for a while untill I got a Bill Dance combo at BPS. I learned the basics from the instructions that came with it and gradually became a mediocre caster. A few months after that I got my first really nice reel, a Diawa Viento, that had just came out. I loved it. From then to now I've became dedicted to bass fishing and in the last year or so Ive started fishing competitively. My long term goal is to just keep fishing and decide if it's something I'm skilled enough at and dedicated enough to to pursue as my career in life. Short term, I want to maintain my grades and hopefully make it into a decent college with a fishing program. I also want to enjoy every minute I have with my family. Thats my poorly written fishing background, thanks for reading
  5. Who's jealous and has two thumbs this dude, times two I guess 8-) Great looking fish. Congrats!
  6. I like your perspective on it Ill worry about it when the time comes but for now, I have enough things like what I'm going to wear tomorrow to worry with.
  7. X2. Usually if you get a cool partner they'll make the offer if you're flipping or sight fishing or something like that.
  8. Alright thanks. I keep mine full but I was just curious :-[
  9. Third place out of around ten : I got some baits Ill use though so I was happy. I didnt want to win because 1st was a shimano reel
  10. Funny story. Glad your hand is healing up. Ive only fallen out once (so far) and it was close to the ramp where a bunch of old dudes started laughing their arses off. It was pretty funny though.
  11. I only have one rod balanced and I like it. I had an XPS kit on it and it started rattling to the point that I had to take it off to remain sane. I couldnt hardly fish with it after that so I taped up some stuff in it and it rattles no more.
  12. Im going to have to add to this. I wouldnt have gotten in to tournament fishing if it hadnt been for some of the guys there.
  13. Hey fellas, I usually go for the green bass but when duty calls I answer . Heres a 20+ incher I got out of the South Holston(The Dead Sea) last weekend in a tourney. She went 4.1lbs spawned out. Not hardly a pretty fish but she looked good to me
  14. One a baitcaster: How much difference does a lot of line make to your casting difference? What I mean is how would your distance be from your spool being 1/2 full as opposed to 1/8 inch from the rim? I doubt they make drilled spools for nothing so why add extra weight for nothing? Just some thought. Light lures might be a little easier to throw :
  15. Try sight fishing if theyre up shallow. The front might not be as bad as you'd think. If you see bass, throw a senko or some kind of soft plastic jerkbait(senko, fluke, slug-go) If you dont see any cruisers, throw a shakey headed worm of some type. You cant go wrong with green pumpkin.
  16. Whatta roube I might feel a little bad yelling at an 80 year old. Well, I know I would. Heres a little story... I was at my favorite lake, where I get my big bass and there's this old man there fishing for trout. Well I talk to him a little and he knows I catch some decent fish out of there. He says,"If ye getchy one'a dem bigguns bring em on over so I can see whatta biggun looks like." So I go out and proceed to land my second biggest(record still standing), a solid 23 inch LMB. Id put it at 6.5-7lbs. I figure, what the heck, so I bring it over to where the old man is trout fishing. He takes my bass and says,"this'll make me a good dinner." and he puts it on a stringer >. Alright, I was pretty cheesed but said nothing. Heres the good part, I run in to the dude there about two weeks later and he claims that he tripped walking down the shore going home and dropped the fish+cloth string it was tied to on the ground where it flopped in the water and swam off. I told him I hated to hear that, I guess I kinda did since he didnt get fresh fish and falling down was pretty bad for an old dude like him. Morale of that story: Old people are tricky
  17. Thanks fellas, sorry for the slow reply. Great responses on here. I appreciate it. Dave, I have a bike with broken handlebars. My neighbor and I have almost died trying to ride it ;D If I can get it cheap? How about Ive had it for a while as a birthday present 8-)(long story) Bassman, nice ride! Ill get some pics on here in the next day or two. It has some bird poo that needs to be removed
  18. Depends on line break strength. I get them in the boat asap, in tourneys especially. This weekend a guy fishing in the back of the boat thought he had a small fish, took his time(in a tourney), and the fish get to the boat and jumps and its about a 6lb smalljaw and it throws his bait. About 30 minutes later, I feel some weight on my line and absoltely slam the hookset ripping drag the whole way and proceed to land the second biggest smallie in the tournament. I didnt even know if it was a fish.
  19. 2003 Ford Lightning Ive heard everything from redneckalicious-whitetrashhero truck to "youz ned teh race at'thar truckk!" What do you all think?
  20. I need a shirt with the jolly roger on it. I might get shot down wearin that thing during present times though.
  21. If the cover isnt too tough(on a bed it shouldnt be) dont texpose the hook or anything. Dont rig it weedless in any way at all. That might help you.
  22. You guys are crackin me up. Hopefully the next roadtrip will be as close as this one was, I might just have to show up
  23. Chill man. Thats probably the first of maybe six trips that cobb is likely to make out there. He probably has no clue about boat ramp edicate.
