  1. I agree. On a larger bassboat, cut the power but don't trim it down. It will glide on plane for a short bit and then it will slowly settle into the water. At just the right point give it some gas to avoid the backwash. Then trim it down.
  2. These are the world records for shad: American Shad 11lbs 4oz Bob Thibodo Conn. River, S. Hadley, MA May 19, 1986 Gizzard Shad 4lbs 6oz Mike Berg Lake Michigan, IN March 2, 1996
  3. Yes, the only designation to speculate about is the 7. I hope it means 7 ounces.
  4. Raul, do my eyes deceive me or does that reel have a 200E7 designation on the side? Do you have any projected specs for this reel?
  5. Pictures are needed to prove the full extent of the fish kill after the weigh-in, but common sense is all that is needed to tell any of us that the average livewell isn't capable of providing an environment that will sustain a sack of huge bass for hours. Tournament organizations should absolutely give this consideration in the future.
  6. Darn kids. Here's the complete story from the Kansas City Star this morning. http://www.kansascity.com/sports/outdoors/story/606948.html
  7. I'm a bit wary of items advertised by Roland Martin also, but, due to curiosity and Bobby's remarks, I wanted to check these out.
  8. I'm always willing to give someone a chance. Bobby, can you provide us with more information. (i.e. Brand, Manufacturer, testing info, etc.)
  9. Brian, Your periodic primer on jigs is always welcome. Good information.
  10. The Ugly Stick is preferred by the very casual angler. I'm surprised Shimano was at the top for reels. I expected Zebco spincast reels would get the nod.
  11. What is the brand name on these rods?
  12. A quarter inch or so works good for me. If you're using an offset hook make sure you go deep enough so that the part of the worm above the offset will cover the eye of the hook with a bit of worm to spare.
  13. Casey sounds like a humble guy. I really enjoyed the interview.
  14. Another great interview, Glenn.
  15. The Red Sox bats awakened at just the wrong time for the Rays. I was surprised to see them in first place a few days ago before Boston swept them. Are the Cardinals for real this year? I didn't expect them to be much of a team. Pitching has been surprisingly good.
  16. The Ugly Stick always comes out on top in just about every survey I've seen. I would like to see this survey among bass anglers only.
  17. Congratulations, Stacey.
  18. What is the length limit for keepers at this lake. Are 0.78 and 0.72 lbs large enough to be keepers?
  19. That's a good book as are others mentioned already. I would add Kevin Van Dam's Bass Strategies.
  20. Cards and Cubs in game 3 today. I don't hate the Cubs. I just love the Cardinals. We're going up against our old friend and former Cardinal, Jason Marquis, today.
  21. I use Meguiar's. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat21276-cat21324&id=0025397016572a&navCount=1&podId=0025397&parentId=cat21324&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=IJ&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat21324&hasJS=true The one-step stuff is pretty good but if you want to give your boat an immaculate appearance, check out the Maguiar products further down the page. I only do my boats once or twice a year. (Too lazy or too busy. ) Waxing your hull will keep it slick and it will cut through the water better.
  22. The Tampa Bay Rays are in first place, at least for a little while. When was the last time that occurred?
  23. Excellent post, Catt, and it bears repeating. Locating fish-holding structure is the key activity to putting fish in the boat on a regular basis.
  24. Excellent post, Glenn. Your changes are well-thought out and based on sound reasoning. Thanks for keeping us informed.
  25. I was there last week (April 21st - 25th.). The water was like coffee from Monkey Island to the upper end. I didn't have time to check the lower end as I was staying at a resort on the Elk river. When I was there the water dropped a foot and then on Thursday and Friday it rose a foot and was right back where we started the week. I went out with a guide on Monday, April 21st, for 4 hours. He caught 2 black bass and I caught 1. It took us over 3 hours to get our first bite. We were using mainly jigs, spinnerbaits, and a modified chatterbait. The rest of the week was pretty tough for black bass due to the turbulent weather, but it may have been better if I had been able to move down closer to the dam. I suspect the water would have been somewhat clearer down there. Most of my fish came near the mouths of coves. The water temperatures ranged from 62 - 68 degrees and with the full moon, I thought there would be some fish moving up on the beds though it was too muddy to even think about sight fishing. The White bass were moving into the Elk river and we caught a bunch of them. They saved our fishing trip.
