  1. A 10 foot boat is pretty short but you can do it. Try standing sideways and straddle one of the bench seats. If your gunwales are high you may still have to pitch with a bit of sidearm to keep from hitting the sides. If you have enough width you should be able to stand facing forward or backward as well. It will be easier if you are standing facing forward or backward because you can perform the pitch with the lure swinging on the outside of the boat. (Let me know if that doesn't make sense.) I have a bassboat but I occasionally fish from a small jon boat and I stand the vast majority of the time. It does take a little practice.
  2. I believe the native range of the Gizzard Shad extends to the Great Lakes so they can handle some cold as well. The Threadfin generally isn't found north of the Ohio River Valley and the southern portions of Missouri. Threadfin Shad have difficulty surviving in water temperatures equal to or less than the mid to lower 40s.

  6. A boat is a tool. If you fish a lake with a lot of standing trees and your bassboat isn't getting beat up you aren't fishing in all the hairy places where bass hang out. However, I want my boat to look nice when I buy it. I'll be the one putting the scratches in the gelcoat. Now the motor is another matter and the pros run them hard. Also, someone mentioned dragging lower units over the tops of stumps which doesn't sound good for the motor or the transom.
  7. Hello, you nasty hooker! It's good to hear from you, Russ. I hope the health problems are resolved. Your comments and input on this forum are definitely missed.

  9. 1. GMAN jigs and RageTail Craws as trailers. 2. Rat'l'traps and Cordell Super Spot Lipless Cranks. 3. Spinnerbaits. 4. T-rigged worms (various brands)

    Welcome to the forum, Hamby.
  11. Hello, Shane. Welcome to BR.
  12. That's interesting, Glenn. I had issues a few years back with Vanish breaking as John mentioned, though I have heard that the line is improved now. I really like the Seaguar Invisx. Though it stretches more than some others it makes great leader material. Which Seaguar brand were you using?
  13. Very nice fish!
  14. Like anything that a bass experiences, I believe it is possible for a bass to be classically conditioned to associate certain things with danger or pain. If a bass can become conditioned to certain lures and stop biting them, who can say that they can't become conditioned to associate a long threadlike object attached to lures with pain, especially in clear water. I know I can't say that with certainty so I use leaders for that and other reasons.
  15. To assume that a bass would be frightened by the sight of line is a dubious assumption. To assume that a bass in very clear water could not be conditioned to associate a long line sticking out of its meal with the infliction of pain may be just as dubious. Who knows what a bass thinks or how it perceives our lines? I don't know what they think but I know what my own experiments have confirmed for me. When fishing jigs or soft plastics in a slow, methodical manner I catch noticeably more fish in gin clear water with a leader. I tend to fish murky and stained waters so this usually doesn't come into play for me but on clear waters I definitely see a difference. Fish Chris makes an excellent point that there are other reasons to use leaders as well.
  16. ;D That's funny, Farmpond1. For all you new anglers out there, stay away from those gateway drugs . . . . er, lures I mean.

  18. I think Catt has a good point. It does take time with a new lure to learn how to utilize it's specific advantages to the fullest extent but common sense has to be used as well. If one is fishing on a day when only an extremely slow, methodical presentation is catching fish, it's unlikely that would be the day to learn to fish crankbaits, buzzbaits, etc. J Francho state: This is definitely something I need to do but I need to purchase a swimbait rod first. I fish the lighter, smaller plastic swimbaits but I'm not going to be throwing a 2 ounce plus swimbait on any of my rods.

Welcome to the forum. I look forward to learning from your deep water knowledge.
  24. Wow. That's a huge spinnerbait. I'm looking forward to hearing the results with the stripers.
  25. Nice fish as usual, Randall!
