  1. I don't think the GLX series is overrated. I own an MBR844C and it is a sweet rod. They may be a bit overpriced.
  2. Nice Striper, Chris.
  3. Welcome to the community, David.
  4. LOL! The giants are gonna come. I don't think it's "if" but "when". Paul, nice post and as always it was a great time that really helped these winter blues. Thanks bud! Yeah, and when Paul says there were no giants the rest of us are saying, ''So what's wrong with catching a few fish in the 3 - 4 lb range?"
  5. Sweet! A bag of four fish weighing 16 - 17 lbs is pretty good where I come from.
  6. No giants, but you nailed some solid fish just the same. Nice pics, Paul.
  7. Welcome to the forum, Matt.
  8. The winds and the snow just started in the last couple of hours here. We already have ice. Starting about mid-morning they are predicting one and a half inches per hour up into the evening. I don't mind the slow drivers except when they go uphill and get stuck in front of me. Please make sure you drive fast enough to have enough momentum to reach the top of the hill, people.
  9. I know it is generally unacceptable to bump a thread back to the top but I just noticed that fishfordollarswife is the latest member to join the forum. I wanted to make this thread a bit easier for her to locate.
  10. Welcome to the forum, Eric.
  11. The contest that Tin mentions is simple for everyone to keep up with and it accounts for the size of fish in your state. Your biggest fish within a specific time period is compared to your state record and the person with the highest ratio wins. If someone wants to develop another online tournament I guess that's his or her prerogative.
  12. Now where have I heard this before? Cool story, Catt!
  13. Wow! What a beautiful fish.
  14. Those are some nice, healthy fish. You guys obviously did your homework and found a good location under the ice. Sweet!
  15. Nice outing. Any bass (or just a wet line) would be nice right now.
  16. I'm glad you had a good time. What's with the short sleeves? Are you trying to rub it in.
  17. I'm rooting for the Pack.
  18. Ah, yes . . . . rod prophylactics. They aren't full-proof as they sometimes tear.

That's been my experience as well and I am a regular spinnerbait user. However, I'm not saying they can't be used in really cold water but there are better baits for those conditions, in my opinion.
  20. I always heard that the average fish caught on a jig and pig is generally bigger than what is caught on other baits. This is why I learned to fish jigs. I have not been disappointed.
  21. I gather the following from the posts so far: (1)The lake is two acres, (2)You fish it three times a week on average, and (3)Other people in the neighborhood fish it also. Bass can be classically conditioned to refuse to bite specific lures if they experience them often. They can learn to associate them with a bad experience. I thing one person fishing a two acre pond three times a week is enough to cause this conditioning. You need to try something new to get them to bite. As suggested, finesse techniques may be useful here if you haven't used them too much. There are other possible causes. Other anglers could be keeping fish for the table so there may not be many fish left. The change in water color obviously indicates that something has changed. Water doesn't just change color without an environmental alteration of some kind. If changing techniques and lures doesn't yield benefits I'd find new water.
  22. I haven't really thought of it in terms of a favorite type. I catch the most fish from coontail and milfoil but that's because that is the type of vegetation that flourishes in the lakes I fish.
  23. Welcome to the BR community.
  24. In both examples you state you were using light line. If you are fishing thick grass you need to make sure you are using the right line and equipment for that purpose so that you can horse the fish out of the vegetation without worrying about breaking your line or the fish getting off the hook. I would also check the quality of my knots, check my rod guides for nicks, and check to make sure my drag was set properly if I were breaking off fish.
