  1. I'm "only" 50 and not as ancient as you are, Roger, but I remember days like this as well. I miss those once secluded spots. Also, where I grew up in Southeast Missouri the area was swampland in the early decades of the 1900s. This swampland had been cleared and ditches cut through the land to drain it for farming purposes. All of the ditches lead to the Mississippi river. In my youth many of these ditches were full of fish including bass. As time has passed and chemicals from farming have washed into these ditches many of these fisheries have all but died.
  2. That's awesome! Congratulations to her. On a side note, be careful using that phrase, "Mission accomplished." You don't want to jinx her.
  3. As stated we have the big box stores Cabela's and Bass Pro Shops but Rogers Sporting Goods is awesome. I think they have a better selection of lures than the two big retailers and their rod and reel selection is just as good too.
  4. Welcome to the Bass Resource community.
  5. I hope the lip heals quickly. Welcome to the forum.
  6. You get promoted by your post count. You start as a one star general and work your way to a five star general. On the road trip you must salute those with more stars whenever your paths cross. Good deal! I'll be heading over to the introduction's and typing Welcome till I get another star A year or two ago, a thread discussed the importance of BR members welcoming new members to make them feel at home. After that thread some of us started posting welcome messages on a consistent basis. I feel that since Glenn provides this resource for free it would seem to be the least I can do. Again, this has nothing to do with post count for most of us who "volunteer" for the welcoming committee. If I was worried about my post count I wouldn't disappear from the forum for two or three months at a time like I do every year.
  7. Well said, Raul. I've never bought a bait because someone won a tournament with it.
  8. Those are some nice-looking smallies, Shane! Congratulations.
  9. Welcome to Bass Resource.
  10. Welcome to the forum, Mike.
  11. X2 Seriously though, like you I will almost always provide additonal commentary to an X2 or an X3.
  12. Careful, that DX704C will spoil you!!! ;D I've had a lot of people tell me that, Dan. When I saw your deal I had to jump on it. I have read nothing but awesome things about the Champion Extreme series of rods. I can't wait to get my stubby little fingers on it.
  13. I think many of us use the x2 and x3 now and then. It's one thing to use it and really mean it and it is quite another to use it for post count. I don't pay attention like the moderators do but I can't say I've really noticed anyone using this to boost post count recently. But then, I've learned to stay away from things that bother me for the most part on forums. Life is too short.
  14. I know you guys had fun! Your stories are raising my cabin fever.
  15. You're really getting dialed in Goose! That's another beautiful hog. Your posts and some others are really turning up the Spring fever. After a week of temperatures above 50 I checked my lakes and they are still ice. We needed another week of warm temperatures but, alas, winter temperatures returned this week. I'll keep checking.
  16. My favorite articles change with time. At various points I have found articles on electronics, location and seasonal information, and articles like the one you posted among my favorites.
  17. Welcome to Bass Resource, Lee. With your experience, I look forward to the information you will provide in these forums.
  18. I think Powell produces a great product at their price line. I have five of the older model Powells: 683 CEF, 684 CEF, 703 MEF, 702 MLEF, and 684 CB. I especially like the 683 and 703 models. My other rods are St. Croix and G.Loomis with a Dobyns on the way. I was hoping that the Endurance line would be a step up.
  19. You are very fortunate. I am glad you are safe. I'll bet you were shaking when you made it back to the bank.
  20. Nice one, Goose! That's a beautiful fish and a hell of a nice reward for your persistence.
  21. Welcome to Bass Resource.
  22. I agree that I see much encouragement for women to participate here. I mentioned this in one of the other threads but I think it applies here as well.
  23. From reading about the Powell Endurance rods, I noticed that in addition to the aesthetic differences and the smaller guides the rod lengths will change along with the taper of the blank though they will still be using the Maxumfiber blanks. Did you notice any difference in sensitivity or balance with the Endurance rod compared to the older Powell series?
  24. Welcome to the Bass Resource community.
  25. I would add to the information provided so far that little fingers or points with a steep drop on a ledge are logical places to look as contact points for fish. Add to that some bait and cover nearby and you've probably found a spot that will attract fish.
