  1. I bought two of them, the body sits very far down in the water, and the frogs i bought take on excessive amounts of water. I find myself squeezing streams of water out after every cast. The colors are nice, and the hooks are very sharp, but I think ill spend the few more dollars and get a Spro or R2S frog.
  2. Thanks for the heads up, is it possible for you to get any other information that would help me out?
  3. Anyone been out to the Pamunkey river or Chickahominy Lake since the temps have been starting to rise? Wanted to get out to one or the other in the next week, Thanks.
  4. Caught it on a Okuma jiggin rod, Daiwa Saltist reel, 100lb braid and a butterfly jig like you said.
  5. Went out of Hatteras, NC last Tuesday in our boat. Instead of trolling, we used our electronics to find them and dropped down a heavy freestyle jig and hung on! Got one in the boat that was 180lbs, 67" (the one pictured), took us an hour and a half to get it in the boat and 3 gaffs. We hooked up on 5 others that were either released or they threw the hook, one was a sharks lunch > . I hope this is the appropriate place to post this, just wanted to show everyone what we did.
  6. I fish a small pond like you mention with small fish, I do very well on a Stike King Mini Pro Buzzbait. I caught 23 fish in that same pond on a wacky rig stick bait, make sure you use some O-rings or youll run out quick. But I also support that small fish will bite big lures, in this pic is a bass that ate my 7 1/2 inch Anaconda and you can tell that he is about the same length
  7. I spooled up a reel with Hi Vis Gold line and was wondering if i should put on a clear monofilement? Can the fish see the gold any better that the normal clear mono?
  8. Thanks guys, ill be sure to let yall know, try and get some pics, hopefully the weather stays nice Sunday. You guys have a suggestions for lures should definitely be tried on those creeks?
  9. Any of you guys ever been/heard of a Gunn's Run road, it is off of John Tyler Memorial highway, it appears to be a boat ramp on Google maps on a creek that leads into the James. I know a guy that lives on that same creek and was wondering what the fishing was like in that creek and in the James in that area. I think the actual creek is called Gunn's Run creek if that helps, Thanks.
  10. I showed up to BPS Friday with a reel to trade in. Asked for a PQ in their lowest gear ratio, had none at all... so i said didnt the sale just start today, how are yall sold out already? He replied with, im sorry, have you looked at the RCX reels, they are better quality and same price. Checked them out and asked for something around 5:1 and he looked for 10 mins and said all they have left is 6.4 and a 7. So i left with a RCX 6.4.
  11. Thanks for that link RW, it helped alot with choosing a rod.
  12. Im wanting to but rod/reels for specific techniques, but i came to realize I dont have the money to fill that many setups. I was wondering which techniques you guys thought could be grouped together into one rod. I have a 5.3:1, 6.3:1 6.4:1, and a 7.1:1. With those reel ratios, what technique rods would you guys match them with? I have a crankbait rod to go with the 5.3 and im pretty sure about that one, and a spinnerbait rod but not sure which reel it should be matched with yet. (I already have my spinning gear setups, just need my casting gear straight.) thanks.
  13. Which one would you guys pick and why? At the BPS sale, they are the same price so and normally the RCX is more so I was wondering which one is better. Thanks, Brian
  14. My most productive is a ZOOM finesse worm (Watermelon), I use a 2/0 gamakatsu finesse wide gap hook, since its to small in diameter for an o-ring, I use an orthodontic rubber band (I use 2 for extra strength), otherwise, your worm aint gonna last you but 1 or 2 fish.
  15. So I have my 5.3:1 reel for crankbaits with a crankbait rod. My 7.1:1 reel for fast spinnerbaits and fishing jigs. I like using my spinning rod for worms and other plastics, im gonna buy a rod for my 6.3 reel but i dont know what kind of rod to look for. What technique do you guys use your 6.3 ratio reels for?
  16. Thanks for all the replies/comments, im gonna go with gettin the PQ. You guys mentioned the reel-trade in, I saw this in the catalog for BPS too. Anyone ever do that before? What kinda discount should I expect at if I trade in an Ambassadeur 4600 CL3?
  17. Im planning on stocking up before the spring and I need a new baitcaster. Looking to use what I get for cranking . Ive compared the details and specs of both reels that the catalog gave me, all i could really see is the Extreme had different braking. The Pro Qualifier appealed to me cosmetically. But the Extreme appealed because of its price difference, but I would rather spend the extra $20 for a decent reel, im tired of wasting my money on junk. I liked that the Extreme reel comes in different model that are technique specific also. I was looking for yall's opinions on both, anything specifically positive or any negative. If you have any other reels in the $110 and under range, id appreciate your suggestions. Thanks, Brian.
  18. When I haul mine (12'), I put the back end first and use 3 ratchet straps. One going from the front hand down to the hitch on the truck, the other two going from the front handle of the boat to the left and right eyebolts on the bed of the truck. Keeps the boat from bouncing and slidding
  19. Mostly taught myself what I know, got a lot of knowledge from BR. My dad and grandfather were more saltwater fisherman and didnt know much freshwater except trout fishing. Learned/Learning on the Pamunkey River in VA
  20. I like the jigs without rattles, usually the ones with rattles I have bought before, the rattle chamber breaks off by the end of the day. All around weight i use is 3/8 oz.
  21. Anyone been out to the chick lately? Planning on going out this Friday and looking for some tips and input on the fishing there. What lures have been working for you? Where have the fish been at lately?
  22. I think me and my cousin decided that we are goin to try the Chick Lake if the weather is nice sometime in the week after next. Would you guys put in at Ed Allens or Eagles Landing? Which one has the best fishin this time of year? Where should i concentrate most of my fishin aslo? Thanks, Brian.
  23. Plannin on takin out the boat with my cousin this winter break but cant decide where to go. Was thinkin about goin to the Chick or somewhere small like Harrison Lake down in Charles City. Was hopping you guys could give me some advice on some good winter spots, and where to look for the fish at that lake. Thanks
  24. Anyone been out to Harrison Lake in Charles City? Havent been out there since June, was looking through VA game and fish magazine and saw someone caught a 9 pounder out of there so i thought id try it. Also I was wondering if i could put my bass tracker in there, but since there is a 5 hp limit and mine has an 80, is there any way i could put it in there? like remove the gas tank or fuel line or something? Cause I cant stand fishin out of my 12 foot jon with two people, its to cramped for me ;D Any info is appreciated, thanks.
  25. Have you looked into the steel fishin cable? When my dad and I go offshore we use it for the toothy fish and I believe it would make a good weed gaurd, it may be a little more pricey but I think it would hold up better. Here is a link to some: http://www.alltackle.com/american_fishing_wire_stainless_steel_trolling_wire.htm
